Record high temperatures for September

Although it is not yet September, I am posting the high temperatures for September tonight. I plan on then taking a week plus off. I plan to begin posting again on either Monday night the 10th of September or, more likely, early Tuesday morning on the 11th.

I will not be continuing my Creationism posts today. I do plan to return to them soon.

Then, I plan to answer the response about Iraq. I am sorry for the change in plans. Plans, in reality, often are altered for one reason or another. “The best laid plans … often go astray.” Thank you for your understanding and patience.

On July 6th, I posted for the first time on my blog the record high temperature for Peoria, Illinois for each day of the month of July with the year the record occurred. I began the post with this paragraph:

Anyone ever ask you, “Hot enough for you?” It seems like I hear that every summer. I was at a funeral recently. I can’t remember the age of the person but I think she was around 90 years of age. One of the individuals who talked about her life mentioned that she often talked about how hot it was in 1936. 1936? But global warming is a new phenomenon! How could it be hot in 1936?

Since August concludes tonight, I thought I would once again post the record highs for the month of September. First however, a reminder of some of the information posted about the record highs for July and August.

For July:

01) The high temperature for every day in July was 100° or more.
02) There were 12 straight days of record high temperatures in 1936.
03) 13 of the record highs for July occurred in 1936.
04) There were 6 other days in July where record highs were recorded in the 1930’s.
05) The most recent record high in July occurred in 1988 at 102° on July 31st.

For August:

01) There were 7 dates in August 1936 that were record highs.
02) There was also another record high in 1930 giving a total of 8 for the decade.
03) There were 2 dates in the 2000’s where a record high was set.
04) 2000 had a record high of 96°.
05) 2003 had a record high of 98°.
06) 11 days were under 100°— ranging from 96 to 99°.
07) 20 days were 100° or more.

What were the temperature results for August in Peoria in 2007? No record highs were broken or tied. The average temperature for August was higher than the average temperature for the month. We have been fluctuating with a higher than average month and then a lower than average month in relation to average temperature. For the year, the average temperature is now 2° above average.

However, even predictions a few days in advance of the day have occasionally been wrong. Here are a few examples of incorrectly forecasted temperatures printed in the Peoria Journal Star as provided by “Central Illinois 5-Day Forecast by Accu Weather®.”

01) On 8/7/07, B6 the prediction was 97° for 8/8/07; the actual was 88° (8/9/07, B6).
02) On 8/9/07, B6 the prediction was 98° for the day; the actual was 84° (8/10/07, B6).
03) On 8/11/07, B8 the prediction was 95° for the day; the actual was 90° (8/12/07, B8).
04) On 8/14/07, B6 the prediction was 98° for the day; the actual was 91° (8/15/07, B6).
05) On 8/16/07, B6 the prediction was 95° for the day; the actual was 81° (8/17/07, B6).
06) On 8/18/07, B8 the prediction was 85° for the day; the actual was 74° (8/19/07, B8).
07) On 8/19/07, B8 the prediction was 82° for the day; the actual was 89° (8/20/07, B6).
08) On 8/19/07, B8 the prediction was 89° for 8/20/07; the actual was 78° (8/21/07, B6).
09) On 8/23/07, B6 the prediction was 88° for 8/26/07; the actual was 82° (8/27/07, B6).
As I’ve said before, if the weather can not be accurately predicted a few days in advance, how in the world can people actually expect that they can accurately predict the climate 50 years in advance?

Here are the September record high temperatures for Peoria.

The Peoria Journal Star on July 1, 2007, page S4 published “The Weather Month by Month.” According to the Peoria Journal Star, here are the record highs for Peoria for the month of September with the year of that record high.

For September:

01) 6 days in 1939 were record high temperatures.
02) 5 days in a row in 1939 had record high temperatures.
03) 4 days in 1933 were record high temperatures.
04) 2 other days in the 1930’s had record high temperatures.
05) For each day in September, the record high temperature was 90° or more.
06) 9 of the record high temperatures were 100° or more.
07) September 15th is the latest date for a 100° temperature which occurred in 1939.
08) 7 of the record high temperatures were in the 1890’s.
09) The most recent record high temperature in September occurred in 1953 (twice).

So, what does all this prove? Maybe not much. Maybe, that it takes more than one month or more than one decade standing alone to scientifically establish a concept that may have tremendous impact on our world. One thing is certain. The 1930’s (12 record highs) was still a hot month for a significant number of days and the world didn’t come to an end as we know it.

As I’ve said before, no human can accurately predict what the weather is going to be like 50 years from today. We have difficulty predicting with 100% accuracy what the weather is going to be like seven days from now. This I do know. If GOD wants global warming as predicted by the “Al Gore gang” to occur, there is NOTHING man can do to stop it. If GOD doesn’t want global warming to occur, it won’t, no matter what man does. Of course, God could always let man proceed as they choose without HIS hand in it either way. I don’t know what will occur 50 years from now and NEITHER DOES any other human on this planet!

This I also know. If I were living a life of SIN, I’d be more concerned about what GOD will do today and tomorrow or what will happen after my death than what is going to occur in another 50 years!!!

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” Galatians 6: 7-8 (NIV)

If I was former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and in the future was subpoenaed to appear before the Senate committee “investigating” my performance as Attorney General, this is what I would say.

“Senators, I will not take the Fifth Amendment as I come before you today. I will not take the Fifth Amendment because I have done nothing wrong. Taking the Fifth Amendment will be construed by you, by the mass media, and by many unthinking people as an admission of criminal wrong doing whether or not that is true.”

“I could refuse to testify because of Executive Privilege since I was a member of the executive branch answerable to the President of the United States and not to this committee, not to the United States Senate, not to the House of Representatives of the United States, and not to the Congress of the United States. However, I will not.”

“What I am going to do is what every member of the executive branch should do. I am going to refuse to testify before this committee today and each and every day hereafter that I am required to appear before this committee. I do now and will in the future respectfully decline to testify before this committee.”

At this point, the chairman of the committee interrupts and proclaims, “Sir, you are coming very close to being in contempt of Congress!”

I would then respond by saying, “Mr. Chairman you do not understand. I am not coming close to being in contempt of Congress; I AM IN CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS. You have no desire to reach the truth or to hear the truth. This committee has been from the beginning and is now involved in a political witch hunt.”

Again, the chairman interrupts and shouts, “You are in contempt of Congress. I can have you jailed.”

I would respond, “You now understand! I am very much in contempt of this Congress and this committee. I am quite aware of your power and what you can and can not do. After all, I was the Attorney General of the United States. I have already experienced your abusive behavior and your abuse of authority.”

“You and other members of your committee began this political witch hunt with preconceived notions of the truth. Nothing that I said then nor will anything that I say now change those notions. You did not then nor will you now provide due process of law or equal protection of the law to me or to any member of the Bush administration. Any thing that we say that is contrary to what you want to hear is considered to be untrue. You have already declared what the truth is and nothing less than that ‘declared truth’ will satisfy this committee.”

“In 2005, I was appointed by the President of the United States with the consent of the Senate to be the Attorney General of the United States. I was and I am answerable to the President of the United States, not to this committee, not to the Senate, not to the House of Representatives, not to the Congress. During my term I worked long hours—often 12 to 14 hours a day for 6 or 7 days of the week. I worked to serve the President of the United States and to serve the people of the United States. I did so not for the money but because of my concern for the wellbeing of this country and the privilege of serving a President who I believe is working for the good of this nation.”

“During my term in office, I served to the best of my ability according to the directions given to me by the President of the United States. I was responsible for a very important Department within the executive branch. I tried to my fullest to uphold the integrity of that Department and to fulfill my duties as Attorney General.”

“Did I make mistakes during my tenure as Attorney General? Probably. Did I purposely error and bring disrepute to the office of Attorney General? Never! Did I correctly relate to this committee every action and conversation that occurred months before? Possibly not. I was a very busy and involved individual. I was working hours upon hours day after day. I did not take notes concerning my actions and concerning my conversations. I did not record every conversation I had over days and months of working as Attorney General.”

“Did my recollection of events differ from that of others? Certainly. I would be surprised if they did not. No! I would be shocked if they did not! Every beginning lawyer knows or should know that, when two or more eye witnesses observe an event, they do not observe it through the same eyes. The perspective of each participant is different. The observations are different. The importance of those observations is different. It is because we all have different perspectives and different recall of events. We all are different. None of us are television cameras or recording machines.”

“In my opinion, this committee took every little difference as proof not that we are human and see things differently but as proof that I was lying and anyone and everyone who seemed to contradict what I said was telling the undeniable truth. Any reasonable person knows that two or three witnesses will not agree on every single detail. If they do, it is probable that they have agreed on what to say before hand. It is not indelible proof that one person is telling the truth while the other must be lying.”

“I confess that I probably do not remember accurately every single detail of things that occurred months before. I was involved in a whole plethora of events involving the Justice Department. In all that I did, I had the support of the President that selected me to be Attorney General although I am sure he did not approve of ever single decision I made or every action I took.”

“However, I would contend that this committee hearing is much more political than any action I ever took as Attorney General. I would contend that some members of this committee are more concerned with promoting their agenda than they are with either the truth or any political actions that they believe I was involved in. I will state again—firmly and with confidence—this is a political witch hunt. And yes indeed, I AM IN COMTEMPT OF SOME OF THE MEMBERS OF THIS COMMITTEE!!!”

Of course, Mr. Gonzales will not do this. He will not because he would be held in contempt of Congress because the committee members do not want to hear the truth.
And he doesn’t have to be so blunt. Nothing will happen to him. He will, if he wants, be offered and given a lucrative position with some corporation where he will earn much more than he did as Attorney General. He could start his own firm and represent powerful and rich clients. He could write a book and earn even more than he would have before being persecuted by members of Congress. He could join the speakers’ circuit and earn thousands of dollars for each speech.

He will do better without saying a word but that will not change the fact that the committee was not interested in the truth. The committee was seeking political advantage against the present administration. As President Lincoln has been given credit for saying, “You can fool some of the people all the time and all the people some of the time; but you can't fool all the people all the time.”

After months of harassment and badgering from libertine Democrats, the first Hispanic Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales, resigned. “President Bush … told reporters he had accepted the resignation reluctantly. ‘His good name was dragged through the mud for political reasons,’ Bush said.” (Peoria Journal Star, August 28, 2007, page A1)

In contrast, libertine Democrats are quoted as saying “‘the Department of Justice suffered a severe crisis of leadership that allowed our justice system to be corrupted by political influence,’ said Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., who has presided over the investigation into the firings of eight prosecutors whom Democrats say were axed for political reasons. (They say, they have not proved.—my addition)

Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the investigation would not end with Gonzales’ leaving.

‘Congress must get to the bottom of this mess and follow the facts where they lead, into the White House,” said the Nevada Democrat.” (Peoria Journal Star, August 28, 2007, page A5)

Notice by these two statements that these two libertine Democratic Congressmen have already decided 1) the Justice Department has been corrupted by political influence [whatever that means] 2) the eight prosecutors were fired for political reasons [whatever that means] 3) that President Bush and his advisors are guilty of these transgressions. Since they already seem to know the truth and have declared what the truth is, I’m not sure why they are continuing their investigation. Maybe, just maybe; it is for political purposes. Of course, these are the same people who have already declared that the war in Iraq has been lost. So maybe, it is that they just don’t have a clue and like to hear themselves talk.

The Constitution of the United States declares “… he (the President of the United States—my addition) shall nominate, and with the Advise and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law….” (Article II, Section 2, paragraph 2 of the United States Constitution.) The President of the United States appoints all Department of Justice prosecutors. By tradition and Supreme Court decision, the President may also dismiss, for whatever reason, any individual appointed to an executive office position without consulting anyone within the legislative branch of government. Therefore, the President of the United States has the right and responsibility to dismiss any prosecutor that he has appointed. NOT THE SENATE, NOT THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, NOT THE CONGRESS!

The question becomes: is this a concern for a politically free Justice Department or is this retribution for the Justice Department successfully arguing for the ban on partial birth abortions and other social issues that libertine Democrats oppose? Is this pay back to demonstrate their support for the position held by Planned Murderhood supporting the murder of unborn babies? Would they go after the Attorney General of a libertine Democratic President who dismissed eight federal prosecutors? Is this attack on Attorney General Gonzales just as political as the libertine Democrats claim that the firings were political?

Given the stated Democratic desire for a politically free Department of Justice (even though President Kennedy appointed his own brother as Attorney General which obviously was not political), I would suggest that every Democratic Presidential candidate be asked these two questions:

“If you become President, how many of the present Department of Justice prosecutors do you plan to dismiss from office? What criteria will you use to determine whether or not to dismiss any of the present Justice Department prosecutors?” Shouldn’t we hold all Democratic Presidential candidates to the same high standard that the libertine Democrats are trying to impose on the present President of the United States? (Don’t be fooled by tradition. By tradition, at the end of a President’s term, all prosecutors resign. They are then reappointed. If they are not reappointed, they have been fired.)

Libertine Democrats claim to be great supporters of tolerance, freedom, equality, and justice. Yet, they have this strangely nasty habit of declaring those they disagree with of being guilty before any judicial trial has ever occurred. They preach tolerance, but it turns out to be tolerance only for those with whom they agree. They preach freedom, but it is freedom TO sin not freedom FROM sin. They preach equality for those with whom they agree, but deny equality for those with whom they disagree. And when all else fails, they attempt to name call, harass, and badger into submission.

The conclusion of this seemingly unjust persecution seems a prime example of their Hitler-like behavior. It doesn’t matter if he is guilty of any wrong doing or not. They don’t need a jury trial. They have declared him guilty (which they did even before the “investigation” began) and therefore he must go. It is their way or the highway even though he was a member of the executive branch not the legislative branch. Was this a “political firing”? A “firing” by persecution?

I don’t know if Alberto Gonzales is guilty of improper behavior and/or illegal act(s). The point is that neither does 99.9+% of the nation and neither does the libertine Democrats who hounded him out of office. The libertine Democrats seem to have already decided he was guilty before any investigation to get at the facts. It seems to have been a “witch hunt” from the beginning designed for political purposes. By their own admission, they had already formed an opinion and have declared him guilty as charged. Where is the justice in that type of behavior? These are Congressmen who believe it is a right to murder your own unborn baby! How trustworthy can they be?

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” Galatians 6: 7-8 (NIV)

I just recently received this e-mail. I thought it was good and am posting it tonight for your consideration.

“How to Catch a Wild Hog
By Lowell E. Hedges

Several years ago I was supervising a beginning teacher in a city school system. One day during our end-of-the-day feedback conference, the young man gave a facial grimace and began to rub his back. I asked him if he had strained his back in the school lab.

After a long period of silence, he sat down at his desk and explained that he had immigrated to the United States because of political problems in his native country. The discomfort in his back was caused by a bullet wound he had received while fighting the Communists who were trying to take over his country's government. He was then a member of the underground nationalist force.

Then he asked me a surprising question: ‘Dr. Hedges, do you know how to catch a wild hog?’

The question was completely out of context regarding the day's classroom and lab teaching. I replied, ‘I'm not sure what you are talking about. Tell me.’

‘First,’ he said, ‘you find out where the wild hogs are roaming and feeding and then you put some corn out in the field. Soon they will come to eat the corn. You keep putting out the free corn. More wild hogs keep coming to eat the corn.’

‘So what?’ I said. ‘That's normal for any animal.’

‘Be patient. I will tell you what comes next,’ he said. ‘After the hogs get used to your free corn, you put up a length of fence along one side of the feeding area. The hogs get used to it. You keep giving them the corn. Then you put up another section of fence at right angles to the first. You keep giving them the corn. The hogs get used to the second fence. Then you put up another length of fence at right angles to the second section.’

‘You now have a U-shaped fenced area. The hogs get used to that section of the fence.
You keep giving them free corn. Then you put another section of fence with a gate in it, making a closed area except for the gate. You keep giving them corn. Now, the hogs no longer are out in the fields, working to find their own food. They keep coming into the area to eat the free corn. They get used to the fenced area with the open gate. Then, one day you slam shut the gate when the hogs are inside the fenced area. The wild hogs are caught—they are your prisoners.’

I understood then that the wild hogs were really the people of his native country and that the free corn was the enticements that the Communists were giving to the people.

‘That's correct,’ the young man said. ‘Now, the hogs will not get anything to eat unless you give them food. You are in control. They depend on you to feed them, or they will starve. They can't get out into the fields and forests anymore to find their own food. They have probably forgotten how, as it is. They are your servants, your prisoners. They must obey you. Or else they starve.’

‘The hogs,’ he said, ‘were so accustomed to having the free corn, that they ignored the building of the fences that would eventually trap them. When the gate slammed shut, it was too late for them to realize what they had been blind to. The free corn was enticing, so effortless to obtain, but eventually the cause of their loss of freedom. The fence had been built; the gate had been shut.’

At this point in our conversation, the young teacher, in a voice shaking with emotion and with fists hitting the desktop, loudly exclaimed, ‘This is what I see happening in America today! People are being offered free corn by the government. People are blind to the fences being built around them by the liberals—the socialists—and that is what frightens me! Just like it was happening in my homeland. The American people do not learn from history. And history shows that socialism/communism does not work.’

‘Take note of Russia. Has socialism been the best thing that ever happened to that country? Absolutely not! But socialism is what the American people are being fed, and they don't realize it. All they can focus on is the ‘free corn.’ They want more and more of the free corn. And this free corn is being fed to us little by little, and soon the gate will slam shut. I am very frightened, and also amazed, that the American people don't see what is being fed us, and for what purpose.’ With that said, the young man sat down at his desk and continued to rub his painful back.

And I was silent in my chair. And afraid. For I could visualize the supposedly ‘free corn’ being fed to our nation's people and our growing addiction to the ‘free corn’. (Can you?—my addition) And I could see the gate being slammed shut. We, the people of the United States of America, because of our ignorance of history, because of our addiction to the supposedly ‘free corn,’ could soon be prisoners of liberal socialism.

Along with this fighter for freedom from socialism/communism, I too, wanted to slam my fists on the desktop and cry out in a loud voice for all to hear, ‘Wake up, America! The fences are being built! Don't you see what is happening to us?’ In the agenda of the new Congress governed by liberal socialists, there is much ‘free corn’ being promised to the American people. In our greed for this ‘free corn,’ will we ignore the incremental building of the fences and the inevitable shutting of the gate? As I ponder the building of the fences now underway by the new Congress, I remember the old adage, ‘there is always free cheese in a mousetrap.’

It seems the only thing we learn from history is that we do not learn from history.

Freedom isn't free, you've got to pay the price, you've got to sacrifice...”

Isn’t this also often true in relation to sin? We are enticed by a particular sin. (Today, much of America will not even admit there is such a thing as sin.) We taste the sin. It doesn’t seem that bad. It even has a pleasurable element. We can live with just an occasional fling with that sin. It isn’t so bad. We can live with small increases as we continue to participate in that sin. It isn’t so bad. We can live with it. We can stop anytime we really want to stop. We increase our activity with that sin. It doesn’t seem bad any more. We can live with it. We receive instant gratification.

Thus, incrementally we are captured by that sin!!! It is so bad and so evil! However by the time we realize it, if we ever do, the gate is shut! YOU ARE CAPTURED AND SPIRITUALLY DEAD.

“When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me.’ For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” James 1: 13-15 (NIV)

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” Galatians 6: 7-8 (NIV)

I am somewhat leery of doing so because I don’t want to give the forces of evil any ideas. However, I think in sum that knowing this is more beneficial than not and those who are evil have probably already thought of most of these. I have changed some wording to hopefully clarify what is being said. I do not know the original source but most of it seems reasonable. Of course, these are generalizations and should be used as appropriate.

“Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or a loved one’s life.

Because of recent abductions in daylight hours, a review of things to do in an emergency situation may be beneficial. This is for you, and for you to share with your spouse, your children, and everyone you know. After reading these 9 crucial tips, forward them to someone you care about. It never hurts to be careful in this crazy (sinful—my addition) world we live in.

1) A tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do! (The military teaches that the farther away you are from an enemy when attacking the better. If you are close enough to have to use an elbow, your life is probably in danger. So I personally would suggest not just the elbow but anything and everything necessary to save your life. Think about the points of vulnerability on your body. When you are defending yourself, attack whatever vulnerable part you can attack as quickly, as hard, and as often as possible. If that means scratching the face with your fingernails—do it. [By the way, that will also provide a means of identifying your attacker.] If that means kicking the knee joint—do it. You must take the attitude that your life is at risk because that may very well be true. No sympathy and no hesitation! ATTACK! ATTACK QUICKLY! ATTACK WITH FORCE! ATTACK OFTEN!—my addition)

2) Learned this from a tourist guide in New Orleans. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you. Chances are that the person is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and the person will go for the wallet/purse. Then, RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION! (Women: it is not a good idea to wear high heels when such an attack is possible. If you have and you can, ditch the shoes.—my addition)

3) If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4) Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit in the car for a time before driving off (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc.). DON’T DO THIS!

The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE. However, if someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF. Repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF!
Instead, gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes, bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5) A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot or parking garage: A) Be aware: look around you; look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. B) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars. C) Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle and the passenger side. If someone is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall or work, and get a guard/policeman (make sure it is a legitimate guard/policeman—my addition) to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.) [In baseball, a defensive player is taught to think about what he will do in the present circumstance if the ball is hit to him. You should do the same. Preplanning means you can react quicker and with more confidence that you will react correctly.—my addition]

6) ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!) [Taking the elevator may have problems too. Are there only two of you in the elevator? Are you alone in the elevator? What if another person joins you on another floor before you reach your floor? You are contained in an enclosed space with whom? Think ahead and be mentally prepared to react to danger.—my addition]

7) If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times. Even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN: preferably in a (random—my addition) zigzag pattern!

8) As women, STOP trying to be sympathetic. It may get you raped or killed.

Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane or a limp and often asked 'for help' into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which was when he abducted his next victim.

9) Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird.

The police told her ‘Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.’ The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, ‘We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.’

He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby’s cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear a baby’s crying outside their doors when they’re home alone at night. Please pass this on and DO NOT open the door for a crying baby. (Be careful and alert whenever you open a door when you are not sure of what may be behind the door.—my addition)

This e-mail should probably be taken seriously because the Crying Baby story was mentioned on America’s Most Wanted this past Saturday when they profiled a serial killer in Louisiana.”

“‘They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk: Why you ain't, Where you is, What he drive, Where he stay, Where he work, Who you be. And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk.

Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these people (I changed the word—my addition). You can't be a doctor with that kind of nonsense (I changed the word—my addition) coming out of your mouth. In fact, you will never get any kind of job making a decent living.

People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these people (I changed the word—my addition) walking around. The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.

These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids … $500 sneakers for what??? And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics. I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit.

Where were you when he was 2??? Where were you when he was 12??? Where were you when he was 18??? And how come you didn't know that he had a pistol??? And where is the father??? Or who is his father???

People putting their clothes on backward: Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong? People with their hats on backward, pants down around the knees (I changed the word—my addition), isn't that a sign of something??? Or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up?

Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and has all type of needles [piercing] going through her body? What part of Africa did this come from???

We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa. With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that junk (I changed the word—my addition), and all of them are in jail. Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem. We have got to take the neighborhood back.

People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands'—or men or whatever you call them now. We have millionaire football players who cannot read. We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks, have to do a better job.

Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us. We have to start holding each other to a higher standard. We cannot blame the white people any longer.’

On my last post, I presented an article from WorldNetDaily.com about compact fluorescent lamps that are filled with mercury and the potential problems with these light bulbs according to the article. The article had a publish date of May 31, 2007. Tonight, a short article published in the Peoria Journal Star on August 5, 2007, page A13 about the same type of light bulbs.

“A new light may soon shine in every U.S. government office in Washington and around the nation. A measure to mandate the exclusive use of ‘energy star’ qualified light bulbs in federal buildings was enthusiastically embraced as an amendment to a House spending bill. If the amendment survives the rest of the legislative process, the bulbs—which use about 75 percent less energy and last up to 10 times longer than standard incandescent bulbs—will be required beginning October 1.” (How many thousands of light bulbs do you think that entails? What are they going to do with all of the still good light bulbs now in place and in storage?—my addition)

Do you think that the House of Representative members who enthusiastically voted for this amendment:

■ don’t know of any potential problems
■ have discounted any potential problems
■ aren’t concerned about any potential problems because it will not be the responsibility of Congress to clean up any breakage or to dispose of any of these mercury filled light bulbs?

Is it micromanaging of the huge executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government to mandate the use of a particular type of light bulb throughout the government? Are the appropriate agencies too incompetent to make such decisions by themselves? If they are, why do some want to increase the size and power of that same bureaucracy with a tremendously large, costly, and new health management bureaucratic system?

Just asking.

I received the following as an e-mail in July and am posting it as a public service. If the material presented is true and I can’t say it is or is not, it has some information that I was not aware of. I do have some such light bulbs. This is what is on the package:
(Hg)—LAMP CONTAINS MERCURY
Manage in Accord with Disposal Laws
See: www.lamprecycle.org or 1-800-435-4448

I wonder how many actually have read this warning. I know that, if I did when I originally purchased the bulbs, it did not register as significant. Did you know the following?

“Posted: May 31, 2007”

“By Joseph Farah
© 2007 WorldNetDaily.com

WASHINGTON – As state and foreign governments enact forced phase-outs of incandescent light bulbs, consumers are being kept in the dark about the many downsides of compact fluorescent lamps (identified as CFLs in the rest of the article—my addition), replacements being billed as an environmental and energy-savings panacea.

Across the U.S., schoolchildren are being urged to replace incandescent light bulbs in their homes, state legislatures are following the leads of foreign governments in banning the sale of the bulbs in the future and the federal Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency are highly recommending the switch to CFLs. Businesses like Wal-Mart are also pushing CFLs hard, as are environmental groups. But safe disposal plans and recycling centers for the mercury-laden compact fluorescent lamps, seen as the future, lag behind the hype.

So, too, does the truth about what will become mandatory, fine-imposed handling requirements for CFLs by homeowners and businesses.

While CFLs arguably use less energy and last longer than incandescents, there is one serious environmental drawback—the presence of small amounts of highly toxic mercury in each and every bulb. This poses problems for consumers when breakage occurs and for disposal when bulbs eventually do burn out.

Most consumers, even those already using the CFLs, do not realize the long-term dangers the bulbs pose to the environment and the health of human beings.

While the EPA is on the CFL bandwagon as a means of reducing carbon-dioxide in the atmosphere, which it believes contributes to global warming, it also quietly offers advice on cleanup of broken bulbs that might give consumers pause to consider dumping those incandescents any time soon.

When a CFL breaks, the EPA cautions consumers to open a window and leave the room immediately for at least 15 minutes because of the mercury threat. The agency suggests removing all materials by scooping fragments and powder using cardboard or stiff paper. Sticky tape is suggested as a way to get smaller particles. The EPA says vacuum cleaners and bare hands should never be used in such cleanups. (Moral: never break a compact fluorescent lamp—my addition)

After final cleanup with a damp paper towel, the agency warns consumers to place all materials in a plastic bag.

‘Seal and dispose of properly,’ says the EPA. ‘Wash hands.’

But disposing of properly might be a tough thing to do, because CFLs should never be thrown in the trash like their old-fashioned incandescent predecessors. They need to be turned into recycling centers, which are few and far between.

When laws banning incandescent bulbs take effect, so do the mandatory fines on consumers and businesses that dispose of the new CFLs improperly.

Though the amount of mercury in each bulb is small—about 4 milligrams—the potential environmental hazard created by the mass introduction of billions of CFLs with few disposal sites and a public unfamiliar with the risks is great.

To address the concern, Wal-Mart announced earlier this month that its suppliers—mainly in China—have agreed to reduce the amount of mercury in the bulbs. Yet the announcement itself came as something of a shock to many consumers who were blindsided about the risks of mercury.

Mercury is probably best-known for its effects on the nervous system. It can also damage the kidneys and liver, and in sufficient quantities can cause death.

With an estimated 150 million CFLs sold in the United States in 2006 and with Wal-Mart alone projecting sales of 100 million this year, some scientists and environmentalists are worried far too many will wind up in garbage dumps.

When sufficient mercury accumulates in a landfill, it can be emitted into the air and water in the form of vaporous methyl-mercury. From there, it can easily get into the food chain.

‘Disposal of any mercury-contaminated material in landfills is absolutely alarming to me,’ says Steve Lindberg, emeritus fellow of the U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The answer, of course, would be recycling and disposal centers. However, it is questionable whether consumers can be counted upon to bring their burned out and broken bulbs to special collection centers voluntarily. That's why most of the laws banning incandescents also include fines for improper disposal of CFLs.

Those provisions in the new laws may be as hard to find for consumers as the fine print on CFL packaging warning them not to breathe the dust from broken bulbs. www.lamprecycle.org offers a good sampling of existing regulations.

Many waste centers that are set up to accept CFL recycling currently have only one collection day per year.

Consumers are discovering other downsides of CFLs besides convenience and safety issues:

• Most do not work with dimmer switches
• They are available in only a few sizes
• Some emit a bluish light
• Some people say they get headaches while working or reading under them
• They cannot be used in recessed lighting enclosures or enclosed globes
• Fires are seen as a slight possibility

When CFLs do burn out, they often create some smoke, which consumers have found alarming. This is a result of the plastic on the bulb's ballast melting and turning black. CFL manufacturers dismiss safety concerns.

Despite the drawbacks, Australia, Canada and the European Union have all moved to ban incandescent bulbs. California, Connecticut, North Carolina and Rhode Island, are all in the process of legislating an end to Edison's greatest invention. Even local towns and cities are getting into the act.

But the craze didn't start in Europe or Australia or Canada. It started in Fidel Castro's Cuba. His action in banning the incandescent bulb was followed up quickly by Hugo Chavez's Venezuela. Only then did the trend continue in the industrialized western nations.

Recycling experts say the solutions are at least five years away. Meanwhile, millions of consumers and green activists are being persuaded to make the switch now.

Governments may indeed be promoting a kind of lighting that is itself nearly obsolete. Fluorescent lights are nothing new. They've been around for a long time. And while they may save money, some say the public hasn't chosen them for good reasons—including, but not limited to, the mercury issue.

Some experts predict the next generation of lighting, though, is LED lights. They are made from semiconductor materials that emit light when an electrical current flows through them. When this form of light takes over, all bulbs will be obsolete. Your wall tiles can light up. Curtains and drapes can light up. Even your dining room table could be made to light up—at exactly the level you want. And the best news is—no toxic waste.

That’s what is ahead in the next decade, according to some in the industry.

Nobody promoted CFLs as aggressively as IKEA. Not only does the retailer sell them, it also provides one of the very few recycling centers for the burned out bulbs. But even with a plethora of recycling centers, how will the public view the prospect of saving up dead bulbs and transporting them to recycling centers? And how about the danger of breakage in that process?

‘The industry is currently aiming at totally mercury-free CFL lighting, but this is still five to 10 years away,’ admits IKEA.

Those who really care about this problem right now are those involved in the waste industry.

‘Most agree more energy-efficient light bulbs can significantly curb air pollution, but fewer people are talking about how to deal with them at the end of their lives,’ explained a page 1 story in the April 2 issue of Waste News. It goes on to explain ‘there is no plan to address air and water pollution concerns that could develop if consumers improperly dispose of the mercury-containing devices.’”

The following short article was published in the Peoria Journal Star on August 17, 2007, page B3. I am quoting the entire article.

“Romney wins GOP straw poll at state fair
By Gatehouse News Service

Springfield—An organized effort that included a visit by one of his sons and 10 busloads of supporters helped give former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney a clear win in a first-of-its-kind presidential straw poll conducted by the Republican Party on Thursday at the Illinois State Fair.

Romney romped with 373 votes translating, which was 40.5 percent in a field of nine candidates. (This is the way it was written. I’m not sure why the word “translating” is included in the sentence.—my addition)

The 922 voters put former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee in second place with 19.96 percent; U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas in third with 18.9 percent; former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in fourth with 11.6 percent; and U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona in fifth with 4.1 percent.

Others on the ballot were: former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, 3 percent; U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, 1.1 percent; U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, 0.65 percent; and U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, 0.3 percent.”

Wow! Obviously, another outstanding victory for Mitt Romney! The article does not say how much he spent on the campaign to receive 373 votes but as it does say—his campaign did provide transportation for 10 busloads of supporters to the fair. I did see an article in the paper the day before giving the details for getting to the fair by a Romney bus. I did not attend the fair and so missed the bus. His was the only campaign where I saw such information. His campaign must be staffed with organization wizards.

Illinois is the fifth largest State in the nation. It has a population of approximately 12.4 million people. Mitt Romney received 373 votes. Oh, the excitement of such an outstanding victory. Who can stop him in his rush to the Republican nomination?

I did come across this quote in the Peoria Journal Star published on April 14, 2007, page E6. “‘When Mormons get mobilized, they’re like dry kindling. You drop a match and get impressive results quickly.’—University of Notre Dame political scientist David Campbell, …, who is Mormon, speaking about how Mormons will back Mormon presidential candidate Mitt Romney.”

Does that mean that most of his 373 votes were from Mormons who back Mitt Romney?
I don’t know. But if so, how much actual support does he have? Does the straw vote in Illinois seem to be a waste of time and a waste of his campaign money. Was it worth the cost to bring 10 busloads of people to the fair to receive 373 votes (37.3 votes per busload)? Are you now convinced to vote for him or would you rather examine his stance on the issues?

Do you remember all the letters to the editors complaining about the high price of gasoline when it went over $3.00 a gallon? Do you remember the complaining in general about the high price of gasoline? Do you remember the libertine Democrats declaring that they would investigate and hold the oil companies responsible for the perceived “price gouging” that was ripping off the consumers?

The following short article was in the Peoria Journal Star on August 19, 2007, page E1, at the bottom of the page. Since you may have missed it, I’m printing it in its entirety.

“A cup of coffee

The price of a ‘grande’ Coffee Frappucino at Starbucks, including taxes, as provided by retailers and converted to the nearest U.S. dollar (according to Starbucks and the Wall Street Journal):

■ Tokyo: $3.72

■ Hong Kong: $3.96

■ New York: $4.25

■ London: $5.23

■ Frankfurt: $5.99

■ Vienna: $5.99

■ Paris: $6.12

■ Peoria: $3.74”

How many cups of coffee does it take to equal a gallon? How many people have at least one cup of coffee every business day? How much do you think they spend on coffee in a week? Do you think the libertine Democrats will investigate this “price gouging” by Starbucks? (I personally don’t drink coffee so it doesn’t have a direct impact on me.) Do you expect letters to the editor complaining about this outrage? Just asking?

The following is the complete article printed in the Peoria Journal Star on August 15, 2007, page A2.

“How much is too much?”—reads the headline for the article.
“Top Army general says 15-month military tours in Mideast too risky”—reads the subheading.

“Washington, D.C. (AP)—The Army’s top general said Tuesday that lengthening U.S. tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan beyond 15 months would be too stressful and risky for troops.

Gen. George Casey also said he didn’t know when officials would be able to cut soldiers’ tours back to 12 months.

‘I don’t see going beyond the 15 months,’ Casey said. ‘I’ve been there in Iraq, I’ve watched the nature of the combat and the stresses and strains that it puts on these soldiers.’

He said the 90-day extension ordered by officials earlier this year can go quickly.

‘Any more than that, it puts our soldiers at a level of stress and a level of risk that right now I’m not comfortable with,’ he told reporters in an appearance at the National Press Club. ‘So it would be very hard for me to recommend going beyond the 15 months and … we want to get down from 15 months as quickly as we can.’”

At the risk of being attacked by those who have already declared me to be an insane idiot who does not know that much, please show me in this article where the “Top Army general says 15-month military tours in Mideast too risky.”?

The article does say that going BEYOND 15 months would be too risky. It also says “I don’t see going BEYOND the 15 months.” It also says “ANY MORE than that … I’m not comfortable with.” It also says that “it would be HARD for me to RECOMMEND going BEYOND the 15 months….” It also says “we WANT to get DOWN from 15 months as quickly as we can.”

However, nowhere in the article did it declare “15-month military tours in Mideast too risky.” If it does, please show me because this insane idiot who does not know that much just can NOT find that statement in the article. Can you? Does that make you an insane idiot too?

I just received the following e-mail. It is quoted as I received it except that I either deleted or rewrote some inappropriate word or wording.

“The speech George W. Bush SHOULD give:”

“Normally, I start these things out by saying ‘My Fellow Americans.’ Not doing it this time. If the polls are any indication, I don’t know who more than half of you are anymore. I do know something terrible has happened, and that you’re really not fellow Americans any longer.

I’ll cut right to the chase here: I quit. Now before anyone gets all in a lather about me quitting to avoid impeachment, or to avoid prosecution or something, let me assure you: There’s been no breaking of laws or impeachable offenses in this office. The reason I’m quitting is simple. I’m fed up with you people. I’m fed up because you have no understanding of what's really going on in the world. Or of what's going on in this once-great nation of ours. And the majority of you are too >>>>>> unwilling (I changed the word—my addition) to do your homework and figure it out.

Let's start local. You've been sold a bill of goods by politicians and the news media. Polls show that the majority of you think the economy is in the tank. And that’s despite record numbers of homeowners, including record numbers of MINORITY homeowners. And while we’re mentioning minorities, I’ll point out that minority business ownership is at an all-time high. Our unemployment rate is as low as it ever was during the Clinton administration. I’ve mentioned all those things before, but it doesn’t seem to have sunk in. Despite the shock to our economy of 9/11, the stock market has rebounded to record levels and more Americans than ever are participating in these markets. Meanwhile, all you can do is whine about gas prices, and most of you are too >>>>>> uninformed (I changed the word—my addition) to realize that gas prices are high because there’s increased demand in other parts of the world, and because a small handful of noisy ‘environmentalists’ (I changed the word—my addition) are more worried about polar bears and beachfront property than your economic security.

We face real threats in the world. Don’t give me this ‘blood for oil’ thing. If I were trading blood for oil I would’ve already seized Iraq’s oil fields and let the rest of the country go to >>>>>>. And don’t give me this ‘Bush Lied; People Died’ junk (I change the word—my addition) either. If I were the liar you people (I changed the word—my addition) take me for, I could’ve easily had chemical weapons planted in Iraq so they could be ‘discovered.’ Instead, I owned up to the fact that the intelligence was faulty. Let me remind you that the rest of the world thought Saddam had the goods, same as me. Let me also remind you that regime change in Iraq was official U.S. policy before I came into office. Some guy named ‘Clinton’ established that policy. Bet you didn’t know that, did you?

You people (I changed the word—my addition) need to understand that we face a unique enemy. Back during the cold war, there were two major competing political and economic models squaring off. We won that war, but we did so because fundamentally, the Communists wanted to survive, just as we do. We were simply able to outspend and out-tech them.

That’s not the case this time. The soldiers of our new enemy don’t care if they survive. In fact, they want to die. That’d be fine, as long as they weren’t also committed to taking as many of you with them as they can. But they are. They want to kill you, and the >>>>>> are all over the globe.

You should be grateful that they haven’t gotten any more of us here in the United States since September 11. But you’re not. That’s because you’ve got no idea how hard a small number of intelligence, military, law enforcement, and homeland security people have worked to make sure of that. When this whole mess started, I warned you that this would be a long and difficult fight. I’m disappointed how many of you people think a long and difficult fight amounts to a single season of ‘Survivor.’ Instead, you’ve grown impatient. You’re incapable of seeing things through the long lens of history, the way our enemies do. You think that wars should last a few months, a few years, tops.

Making matters worse, you actively support those who help the enemy. Every time you buy the New York Times, every time you send a donation to a cut-and-run Democrat’s political campaign, well, >>>>>> it, you might just as well FedEx a grenade launcher to a Jihadist. It amounts to the same thing. In this day and age, it’s easy enough to find the truth. It’s all over the Internet. It just isn’t on the pages of the New York Times or on NBC News. But even if it were, I doubt you’d be any smarter. Most of you would rather watch American Idol.

I could say more about your expectations that the government will always be there to bail you out, even if you’re too unwilling (I changed the word—my addition) to leave a city that’s below sea level and has a hurricane approaching. I could say more about your unrealistic (I changed the word—my addition) belief that government, not your own wallet, is where the money comes from. But I’ve come to the conclusion that were I to do so, it would sail right over your heads.

So I quit. I’m going back to Crawford. I’ve got an energy-efficient house down there (Al Gore could only dream) and the capability to be fully self-sufficient. No one ever heard of Crawford before I got elected, and as soon as I’m done here pretty much no one will ever hear of it again. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to die of old age before the last pillars of America fall.

Oh, and by the way, Cheney’s quitting too. That means Pelosi is your new President. You asked for it. Watch what she does carefully, because I still have a glimmer of hope that there are just enough of you remaining who are smart enough to turn this thing around in 2008.

So that’s it. God bless what’s left of America. Some of you know what I mean. The rest of you,” are just too blind to see (I changed the wording—my addition).

I am grateful to GOD that President Bush has not issued such a resignation speech. I am grateful that he has the fortitude and the integrity to continue on the path that is attempting to protect the United States from those who want to murder us in spite of the whining of libertines who have their heads buried in the sand and think appeasement will bring safety and security.

May the people of this country repent and turn to the one and only true GOD of the universe who created all things. May the people of this country stop supporting sin and start supporting righteousness before we careen off of the cliff into the abyss of total sin. Pray and then get actively involved in stopping the run-a-way desire to put self destruction before serving GOD. We all serve one master—either we serve GOD the CREATOR or we serve sin.

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” Galatians 6: 7-8 (NIV)

Romney victory?

I will not be continuing my Creationism posts today. I do plan to return to them soon.

Then, I plan to answer the response about Iraq. I am sorry for the change in plans. Plans, in reality, often are altered for one reason or another. “The best laid plans … often go astray.” Thank you for your understanding and patience.

The headline in the Peoria Journal Star on August 13, 2007, page A5 stated “Romney pleased with Iowa win.” The article is about Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney winning a straw vote in Iowa. The winning of the straw poll does not provide any delegates to the Republican National Convention that will select the Republican candidate for the presidency. It is something like a primary before the actual caucus vote that occurs later to select delegates to the convention.

Iowa has a population of over 2.9 million people. Most of the time, the voters of the State tend to vote Republican in recent elections. In this straw vote, out of a population of over 2.9 million people, about 14,300 people voted (.004931 of the total population). Of that total, Mitt Romney received 4,516 votes. The two next highest vote winners received 2,587 and 2,192 votes respectively. Both of them are considered more conservative than Mitt Romney and together they received more votes than he did.

Furthermore, Mitt Romney is a Mormon. It has been my observation, while living in Arizona which has a rather large Mormon population in sections of the State, that Mormons tend to vote for other Mormons regardless of the politics of that particular Mormon candidate. Some may argue with that assessment but that is my observation. It is my understanding that there are Mormons living in Iowa. It may be and I readily admit I do not know (I think it would be an interesting study.), that most of those 4,516 votes were from fellow Mormons.

Regardless, according to the article, “he (candidate Romney—my addition) spent millions of dollars and months of effort on the event (the straw vote—my addition).” [Peoria Journal Star, 8/13/07, page A5] So, as I understand it, Mitt Romney spent at least two million dollars and months of effort to receive a grand total of 4,516 votes. According to my calculations using $2,000,000 as the amount spent which would be the minimum amount for millions of dollars, Mitt Romney spent $442.87 per vote received in a straw poll that does not provide one single delegate for his actual nomination.

Does that seem rather expensive to you? Does that seem rather wasteful to you? Is that an example of how he will handle our tax dollars if elected President? What do you think?

According to the article, the Republican candidate who finished second in the straw vote spent less than $100,000. That is less than $39 a vote. The article did not say how much the candidate who came in third spent.

Mitt Romney spent at least $442.87 per vote to receive 4,516 votes State wide. Is that really much of a victory?

I first heard the following commercial at approximately 5:50 a.m. on August 10, 2007 on the radio station I listen to during the day. I have heard it at least once every day since then.

The commercial is advertising the return of a new season for one show and a new show that follows the first. These shows are on “Showtime,” the cable network channel. The new show is entitled “Californication.” I gather from the title that the setting for the story line (If there is a story line.) is in California and the story revolves around having consensual intercourse between two people who are not married. Isn’t that an original idea?

At one point in the commercial a man and a woman are talking. The man says he is an author but has written only one successful book. The woman says that if that is all the success he has had then she is not going to have intercourse with him. The phrase used in the commercial was “sleep” with him. I would not be surprised if in the show the actual wording is somewhat different than a cleaned up version for a commercial. I, of course, don’t know for sure.

The commercial ends with this bit of programming. A young sounding girl (under 18 and I believe the voice was intended to be female) asks, “Father, why is there a naked lady in your bedroom?”

The man responds, “I’ll check.”

Isn’t that clever writing and how appropriate for a young daughter to be subjected to her father’s sexual escapades at home. Is this a new low in programming?

Unfortunately, in our present immoral society it probably is not and probably will go lower if we don’t start demanding an end to such obscene programming. I don’t believe such channels as “Showtime” have gone so far as to show actual intercourse yet (I don’t get any of those types of channels.) but every year the bar seems to be lowered further as they compete for the immoral audiences of our society.

There is of course a way to stop this immoral drivel. If it were not profitable, it would not survive. It is well past time to reestablish morality in this nation. If not, we will ultimately collapse from within and won’t have to be concerned with outside invaders such as Al-Qaida. We seem intent on slow (or rapid depending upon one’s concept of speed in this area) national suicide. We murder our unborn babies, demand homosexual immorality as a right, and wallow in sexual immorality in general.

It is time to repent! It is well past time to repent!

House comparison

I will not be continuing my Creationism posts today after all. I received the following by e-mail last weekend and decided to post it now. The original e-mail also had two pictures. A picture of House #1 and a picture of House #2. The pictures have not been posted. I have not yet checked out the given website to verify the accuracy of the information but the source who sent the e-mail is reliable.

I do plan to return to the Creationism posts soon.

Then, I plan to answer the response about Iraq. I am sorry for the change in plans. Plans, in reality, often are altered for one reason or another. “The best laid plans … often go astray.” Thank you for your understanding and patience.

“Here’s some interesting information, and per Snopes it is true.

House #1 is a 20 room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. (I can’t verify these statistics since I don’t know what the average home consumes—my addition) This house is not situated in a Northern or Midwestern "snow belt" area. It's in the South.

House #2 was designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every ‘green’ feature current home construction can provide. The house is 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas and it consumes one-quarter (of the—my addition) electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape.

HOUSE #1 is outside of Nashville, Tennessee; it is the abode of the ‘environmentalist’ Al Gore.

HOUSE #2 is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas; it is the residence of the President of the United States, George W. Bush.

An ‘inconvenient truth.’”

I’m going to quote several short articles from the Peoria Journal Star. The first ones are from August 7th and the last two are from August 9, 2007. After reading the last two in the newspaper, I decided I just had to post them now, immediately after the publication of the articles.

The articles from August 7, 2007 from the Peoria Journal Star were on page B2.

Article 1: A male and a female suspects “both face meth-related charges after a traffic stop netted meth and meth-making materials in their car….”

“A search of the trunk revealed 36 grams of the meth-making ingredient ephedrine, muriatic acid, drain cleaner, rubber tubes, an electric skillet and camping fuel.”

The article does not say why the car was originally stopped. And I don’t have personal experience using illegal drugs, making them, or selling them; however, if I was transporting drug making materials, I think I would make very sure that I was not violating any traffic laws. Do you think they were? Do you think they believe GOD created the universe, that it was all a natural phenomenon, or a third alternative?

Article 2: A female suspect “faces one count of possession of meth in Tazewell County Circuit Court.

While at the house investigating the stabbing call, police saw meth and a pipe that >>>>>> admitted was hers, court records said.

Any details of an alleged stabbing were unclear Monday, however a search of the apartment by police turned up 374 grams of meth in liquid form hidden in a bedroom nightstand.”

The article does not say who originally called the police about the alleged stabbing. However, I think if there was any possibility of the police being in my apartment, I would remove all evidence that might connect me with an illegal activity. Do you think she believes GOD created the universe, that it was all a natural phenomenon, or a third alternative?

Article 3: Two women suspects “face one count each of aggravated participation in meth manufacturing in a structure where a child younger than 18 was present.

Court records said four children, who were 2, 3, 6, and 16, were at the … address while meth was being made there.

Police responded to a burglary call from the house on Saturday and smelled a strong odor of meth being cooked and saw burn marks on the carpet.

Two large bags of meth-making materials, including a canister of acid, hoses and chemicals, were found in the house.”

The article does not say who originally called the police about the alleged burglary. However, I think if there was any possibility of the police being in my house, I would remove all evidence that might connect me with an illegal activity and I certainly would not be cooking the illegal substance while children were present while waiting for the police. Do you think they believe GOD created the universe, that it was all a natural phenomenon, or a third alternative?

The following two short articles were published in the Peoria Journal Star on August 9, 2007, page A2.
Article 4: “Police identified a man as a suspect in a rape after he used the cell phone he stole from the victim to send a photo of himself to her friend, authorities said.”

“Weeks later, the woman received an e-mail from a friend asking why she had sent a photograph of an unknown man from her cell phone, officials said.

The photo showed a man in a white T-shirt standing in front of a house.

‘We couldn’t believe that he sent a picture of himself to one of her contacts.’”

Do you think he believes GOD created the universe, that it was all a natural phenomenon, or a third alternative?

Article 5: “A woman shot and killed a panhandler who asked her for 25 cents, police say.

‘He asked her for a quarter,’ Police Chief Tom Streicher said. ‘That’s apparently all there was to it.’”

The man, “who police believe was homeless, stood outside a gas station late Monday asking people for money.” She “had complained about >>>>>>> to someone else, and when he approached her she pulled out a gun and shot him, police said.”

Do you think she believes GOD created the universe, that it was all a natural phenomenon, or a third alternative?

“He (the LORD JESUS the CHRIST—my addition) went on ‘What comes out of a man is what makes him ‘unclean.’ For from within, out of men’s hearts come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from within and make a man ‘unclean.’’” Mark 7: 20-23 (NIV)

“Some Pharisees came and tested him (the LORD JESUS the CHRIST—my addition) by asking, ‘Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?’

‘What did Moses command you?’ he replied.

They said, ‘Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.’

‘It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,’ Jesus replied. ‘But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’” Mark 10: 2-7 (NIV)

“AT THE BEGINNING OF CREATION GOD ‘MADE….’” (‘made them male and female’ is a quote from Genesis 1:27—my addition)

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” Galatians 6: 7-8 (NIV)

Gene Robinson is one of the libertine writers that the Peoria Journal Star regularly features on its editorial page. This is a paragraph from a recent column published on August 3, 2007, page A4. (I do admit that I did not read the entire article. I stopped after this paragraph. I also admit that I haven’t read many of his columns.)

“I hear from African-Americans (The latest acceptable racial term.—my addition) who are excited about Obama’s candidacy but who suspect that somehow, when push comes to shove, ‘they’ won’t let him win. It’s unclear who ‘they’ might be—white voters, the ‘power structure,’ the alignment of the stars—and it’s unclear how ‘they’ are going to thwart Obama’s ambition. The point is that, somehow, he’ll be denied.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting tired of the worn out race card being played so often. Why is it alright for all African-Americans to vote for an African-American candidate but, if Caucasians don’t vote for that same candidate, then it is racism? That is not only nonsense. It is also a form of racism.

Let’s be truthful. There will always be Caucasians who are racists. There will also always be African-Americans who are racists. However, continually ignoring the great changes that have occurred hurts rather than helps in the goal of equality not based upon the color of ones skin but based upon character.

Martin Luther King in 1963 in his famous “I Have a Dream” speech said “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Microsoft ® Encarta ® 2007 [DVD]. Redmond, Wa: Microsoft, Corporation, 2006. How can that dream ever be achieved if the excuse is already being dragged out that Barack Obama, or who ever, can not or did not achieve something began of the color of his skin and that excuse is given even before the event? Is this not attempting to capitalize upon his skin color rather than making a decision about him based upon his character?

Of course, there is also another problem. Is Barack Obama African-American in the sense that the term is normally used? I moved to Illinois in June of the year that he was first elected to the U.S. Senate from Illinois. From what was said at the time, his mother is Caucasian. I don’t know if she is 100% Caucasian but she is identified as Caucasian. If she is 100% Caucasian, then Barack Obama is only 50% African-American. Does that count as being African-American?

In the meantime, in that Senate race in Illinois, his Republican opponent was also African-American. I don’t recall any mention of his opponent’s lineage so, in fact, it may well have been that his opponent is more African-American than he is. As far as I know, no one complained about any racial bias in that election.

I did not vote for Barack Obama in that senatorial election. Does that mean that I did not vote for him because of the color of his skin? No! I would not have voted for Barrack Obama if he was 100% Caucasian. I would not have voted for him because he supports the murder of unborn babies, because he thinks the sin of practicing homosexuality should be protected by law, and for a host of other issue related reasons.

In short, I could care less about the color of his skin. The color of his skin tells me nothing about his character. His stance on issues tells me a tremendous amount about his character. I voted against Barack Obama because his character is deficient not because his skin color is deficient. And according to Martin Luther King, that is exactly how he should be judged. So, please stop trying to use the race card as an excuse for the character deficiencies of a candidate who also happens to be at least partially African-American.

Personally, I don’t think Barack Obama will win the Democratic nomination. But, the fact that he is considered to be a leading contender for the nomination seems to disprove, in part, that his ability to win or lose is based upon race. If race is such an overwhelming factor, why is he a leading contender? He must have some Caucasian support. Of course, I guess, if he was not considered to be an African-American, he would be supported by 100% of the members of the Democratic Party. What do you think?

Regardless of his winning or losing the Democratic primary, I will not vote for Barrack Obama in the general election. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin. It has everything to do with his position on the issues that are important to me. And until people stop using the race card as a political issue, Marin Luther King’s dream will never be achievable. Isn’t that strange? The very people who are suppose to be most desirous of his dream being fulfilled are the ones who, it seems, are preventing it from occurring since using race as an issue for being elected hinders the real stated goal—selection based upon character not race.

It’s time to stop using race as an issue both by Caucasian racists and African-American racists. Stop demanding that skin color be the reason for voting for a candidate. Stop making excuses based upon skin color. Otherwise, Martin Luther King’s dream will not be fulfilled. To many voters, Barack Obama’s character is deficient not his skin color. Don’t hide behind his skin color to make excuses for his character deficiencies.
