GOD’S creation!!!

Two posts tonight. The first is a call to action!

From: Concerned Women for America

“On Tuesday, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada) had the Senate vote to begin the debate on the Senate floor on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) treaty. As we expected, 61 senators voted to begin debate on this treaty. However, Sen. Reid has now pivoted away from this treaty to consider other legislation, while he tries to figure out which amendments to bring up and how to browbeat a few Republican senators to vote for the treaty.

So, while the CRPD is not currently on the floor, Senator Reid could bring it back at any moment. We need to continue to remind senators why this treaty is dangerous and should not be ratified!

U.S. law provides the highest protections for persons with disabilities. However, provisions in the CRPD could require changes to our laws in order to comply with the treaty. An unelected and unaccountable U.N. Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities would have the power to review our implementation of the CRPD and urge changes to our federal and state laws to comply with the Committee's own interpretation of the Convention.

In addition to civil and political rights which are recognized in the U.S., the CRPD contains social, economic, and cultural rights that the U.S. does not recognize. Civil and political rights are included in the Constitution and tell us what the government cannot do to its citizens (like discriminate against us). The CRPD also includes rights that tell the government what it must do—such as free or affordable health care or adequate standard of living and social protection—which are not recognized in the U.S. Constitution.

The CRPD is designed to end discrimination on the basis of "disability." Yet, this treaty does not provide an explicit definition of the term "disability." Rather, it states that "disability is an evolving concept." With no clear definition or an evolving definition, ratification could cause a conflict between our laws and the Convention.

Act Now:

1) Thank the 36 senators who voted against taking up the CRPD during the lame duck. This is a great way to acknowledge their action and encourage them to maintain their position. Sen. Reid will be trying lure away some of these Senators to reach the needed 67 votes.

2) Call you Senators and urge them to vote against the CRPD. To find your Senators, please click here.

3) The following senators we have heard may be wavering. Please call them right away and urge them to oppose this dangerous treaty.

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas): 202-224-5922

Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee): 202-224-4944

Senator Dean Heller (R-Nevada): 202-224-6244

Senator Mike Johanns (R-Nebraska): 202-224-4224

Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kansas): 202-224-6521

Senator Thad Cochran (R-Mississippi): 202-224-5054

Senator Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia): 202-224-3954

4) Senators Scott Brown (R-Massachusetts) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) signed onto a letter not to proceed to the treaty during the lame duck session and they both disregarded the letter they signed and voted to consider it. Please call them and ask them to oppose the CRPD.

(Senator Brown is a lame duck Senator!—my addition)

Senator Scott Brown (R-Massachusetts): 202-224-4543

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah): 202-224-5251 (See comment at end of the second post!—my addition)

“‘There is a Civil War brewing in the GOP’ over abortion: Pro-life leader

BY BEN JOHNSON
Tue Nov 27, 2012 20:17 EST

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 27, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com)—If the Republican Party closes itself to passing pro-life legislation, it will signal the end of the GOP and the formation of a new, pro-life third party, a leader in one of the fastest growing pro-life ministries has warned.

‘There is a Civil War brewing in the GOP, and it’s not pretty,’ said Jennifer Mason, communications director of Personhood USA.

Over the weekend, 2008 Republican presidential candidate John McCain said pro-life conservatives should state their position on abortion, then ‘leave the issue alone.’ Elected officials, he indicated, should enact no new legislation to protect the unborn.

He and a host of GOP consultants have suggested the party downplay or abandon social issues in light of the 2012 electoral loss.

Mason said his comments ‘made me wonder: instead of dropping the abortion issue, why not drop John McCain (DUH!—my addition)?’

‘If McCain and his ilk are successful, we are looking at a major defection to a third party, and the ultimate death of the Republican Party (AGREED!—my addition),’ she added.

While Beltway insiders, long hostile to the party’s socially conservative base, pin Romney’s loss on statements by candidates like Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock, Mason says the blame lies with Romney’s mushy views on abortion.

She reviewed the former Massachusetts governor’s economic monotone from the primaries through the general election—skipping pro-life debates, refusing to sign pro-life pledges other GOP hopefuls signed, stating that no he had no pro-life legislative agenda, and running ads stating that he believed ‘abortion should be an option’ in the cases of rape or incest.

‘There is a lesson to be learned here. The old guard of the GOP is dying,’ Mason said.

She said while moderate candidates—figures from Ford and George H.W. Bush to Bob Dole, McCain, and Romney—are ‘unelectable,’ social conservatives are ‘without a leader.’

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, said McCain and others in the Republican Establishment should stop treating abortion as a political football.

‘We’re talking about defending vulnerable human life,’ she said. ‘If it’s not about that, it’s not about anything.’

Frank Cannon and Jeffrey Bell at NRO agree that ‘to hold pro-life beliefs while opposing any governmental action to protect the innocent unborn is not the position of a man of honor, which throughout his long life John McCain has always been.’

They said McCain’s advice to become ‘a pale social-issue copy of the Democrats’ would be counterproductive.

Refusing to ‘lift a finger on behalf of human life’ would tell voters that ‘whenever Republicans express a principle, it’s anyone’s guess as to whether we care enough to act on it.’

The SBA List said the effort by McCain and others to push pro-lifers to the party’s margins remind them of a quotation from Martin Luther King Jr.: ‘In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends (Is he really a friend? Does talking the walk but NOT walking the walk make one a friend?—my addition).’

That Sarah Palin supported John McCain in his 2010 Senate race against a Tea Party candidate is one of several reasons why I will never support her for national office. I lived in Arizona when John McCain was a Senator. He would be as comfortable being a Democratic Senator in Massachusetts as he is being a Republican Senator in Arizona. He should have never been the Republican nominee in 2008 nor reelected in 2010! If I remember correctly, in 2012, Sarah Palin also supported Orrin Hatch over a Tea Party candidate!

I am posting tonight on http://christiangunslinger3.blogspot.com an open letter to the Republican Party that deals with this issue in more detail.

“John McCain Faces Criticism Over His Call for Abortion Truce

by Steven Ertelt
Washington, DC
LifeNews.com
11/27/12 2:56 PM

Senator John McCain, the former presidential candidate, is facing criticism from pro-life advocates over his call for a truce on abortion.

McCain is under the mistaken notion that the abortion issue cost Republicans the 2012 presidential election and that pro-life advocates should state their views and then be quiet.

‘As far as young women are concerned, absolutely, I don’t think anybody like me—I can state my position on abortion but, other than that, leave the issue alone, when we are in the kind of economic situation and, frankly, national-security situation that we’re in,’ he said over the weekend. ‘I would allow people to have those opinions and respect those opinions (Respect an opinion that MURDERING unborn children is aright?” John McCain either does not get it or he is NOT pro-life in practice!—my addition). I’m proud of my pro-life position and record. But if someone disagrees with me, I respect your views.’

Writing at National Review, Frank Cannon & Jeffrey Bell say McCain’s comments are at odds with how he pursues other issues, such as foreign policy.

‘For McCain, this represents a very different moral calculus from his criticisms of the Obama administration’s handling of the terrorist attack on U. S. personnel in Benghazi. With Benghazi the larger principle is that when U. S. personnel stationed abroad come under attack, the government must make every effort to come to their aid and protect them. Expressing sympathy with brave Americans under assault is not enough; we should have executed a plan to try to save their lives in a timely fashion.

On abortion, McCain apparently believes Republicans should maintain a broadly pro-life position. But when considering what to do to protect the unborn, whom pro-lifers by definition believe to be innocent human beings, no action plan should be adopted, much less executed. McCain implies that the very subject of protecting the unborn should be avoided. If it is brought up, we should admit to being pro-life, but emphasize how much we respect the opinions of those who believe unborn babies deserve no protection whatsoever.

We find it puzzling why McCain believes such a stance would improve Republican election chances or even enhance respect for Republicans among our opponents.

We would reveal to tens of millions of social-conservative voters that Republicans will never lift a finger on behalf of human life, even though we supposedly share their view of the issue. We would at the same time be telling them and everyone else that, whenever Republicans express a principle, it’s anyone’s guess as to whether we care enough to act on it.

It is utterly predictable that when Republicans lose still another presidential election, social issues will be singled out as a major cause of defeat—even when our nominee maintained near-silence on such issues. And opponents of social conservatism should be expected to come forward and explain why remaking the party into a pale social-issue copy of the Democrats will bring electoral nirvana by 2016.’

Conservative attorney and author David Limbaugh agrees, saying he worries attempts by economic conservatives to play down pro-life issues will hurt the Republican Party.

‘In fairness, we are in extraordinary times, and it’s understandable that even some Reagan conservatives (those who subscribe to his three-legged stool of economic, foreign policy and social conservatism) became impatient with attempts to place social issues at the forefront. They were convinced that President Obama’s fiscal and economic nightmares alone would ensure a Republican victory and there was no need to make controversial social issues a drag on the ticket (IT IS NOT A DRAG ON THE TICKET! IT IS A WINNING ISSUE! IT IS THE POSITION OF GOD!—my addition).

But that excuse will not mollify many social conservatives, who believe (I know they are!—my addition) not only that social issues are the most important matters facing the nation today, but that at the root of our economic problems is an underlying disintegration of the nation’s moral fabric (Which is exactly correct!—my addition).

My purpose here, though, is not to debate the merits of the competing positions, but to point out that this growing intolerance for social issues by some in the GOP could result in a major schism, even a splintering of the party (IT WILL if the establishment does not change NOW!—my addition).

It is no small irony that those urging a remake of the GOP to bring it in line with changing demographics could unwittingly alienate Hispanics and other minority recruits who might be receptive to social conservatism.

It is also ironic and a testament to the wholesale ineffectiveness of the Republican Party that it is cowering from potentially winnable social issues: abortion, same-sex marriage, Obama’s assault on religious liberty and his phony war on women. Is there no issue on which the establishment will not cave in the end (If they won’t protect innocent unborn children, what will they protect?—my addition)?

The Republican Party can choose to ostracize social conservatives and their issues, or try to purge them altogether from the party and its platform. But they better be careful what they wish for, because if they do, it will be the end of the party as we know it (I think it will be the end of the Republican Party! The Republican Party needs us more than we need them!—my addition).’

Ken Connor, a pro-life attorney who heads the Center for Just Society, says it is not fair to blame pro-lifers for Romney’s loss since Romney didn’t press pro-life issues as hard as he should have in the campaign (Did he press it at all? He immediately turned against Todd Akin which spoke volumes to pro-lifers!!!—my addition).

‘One thing is certain. Neither Mr. Romney nor the Republican Party ever made the case for the sanctity of life or marriage in this election season,’ he said. ‘Sure, they mouthed their opposition to abortion and their support for traditional marriage, but they never really made their case to the American people as to why these issues are so critical to the health and prosperity of our nation. All we got when it came to social issues in Campaign 2012 were canned soundbytes from the Republican nominee (Mitt Romney and establishment Republicans walked the talk at the party convention but did not walk the walk on the campaign trail! They lost because they did NOT get value voters to the polls and voting for them. Period! The loss is on them NOT value voters!—my addition).’

‘Consequently, when candidates like Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock fumbled the ball with their ham-handed responses in their own campaigns, their remarks took on national significance and were imputed to Romney as the GOP’s representative in the presidential contest.’

Connor added, ‘Two paragraphs are all it takes to make the case for life, yet the subject never got more than two sentences in any Romney stump speech. As a result, his position on abortion was mischaracterized by the Obama machine as a ‘war on women.’ Had he been willing to devote a few moments of his time to develop the case for the sanctity of life he could have been seen as a protector and advocate for children and the elderly and the handicapped. Sadly (Tragically for the nation!—my addition), he was unwilling to make the case, and so was the GOP.’”

“Necessity Isn’t the Mother of This Convention

Judging by the state of our economy, Congress has enough to worry about without adding global sovereignty to the mix. But in the Senate, where inefficiency is an art form, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) is choosing to waste more of the chamber’s time on an international treaty that could be the greatest threat to parents’ rights that no one knows about.

Like most U.N. treaties, this one sounds harmless enough. But behind its innocuous name, Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), is a dangerous attack on parental authority and U.S. autonomy. The measure cropped up earlier this year in the Senate, where it passed out of committee by a 13-6 vote. Since then, the Left has been lying low—waiting for the right moment to slip it past voters who are too concerned with the fiscal cliff to notice. Unfortunately for Senator Reid, conservatives have noticed.

Like FRC, Senators Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) are doing everything they can to sound the alarm on the vote, which could happen as early as tomorrow. ‘Our concerns with this Convention have nothing to do with any lack of concern for the rights of persons with disabilities,’ Senator Lee explained.

http://www.sltrib.com/csp/cms/sites/sltrib/pages/printerfriendly.csp?id=55349900

‘They have everything to do with protecting U.S. sovereignty, protecting the interests of parents in the United States, and the interests of families.’ Democrats claim the U.S. should ratify the treaty to encourage other countries to ‘catch up’ to our standards of treating everyone fairly, regardless of their handicaps. But America can be an example to the rest of the world without signing away our rights. And after 21 years of living under the strongest piece of disabilities legislation in the world, we have nothing to prove about our sincerity on the issue.

Nothing the U.N. ratifies—including CRPD—could compare with the Americans with Disabilities Act in providing protection for people with special needs. If our own law is sufficient, and the U.S. has nothing to gain by signing the treaty, why bother? Because, as Senator Harry Reid well knows, U.N. measures like this one help get his party’s radical policies through America’s backdoor. Under CRPD, the U.S. would be forced to recognize rights that even our Constitution does not. What’s more, those rights would be subject to the court’s interpretation—or worse, unelected bureaucrats’. Specifically, the CRPD takes aim at parents of special needs children, declaring that an international body—not moms and dads—will be the ultimate authority on issues like education. The treaty slips in phrases like ‘best interest of the child (Determined by whom!—my addition),’ which, as Rick Santorum points out, are ‘red alert alarm words.’ They mean that U.N. officials or the courts would be in the position of deciding what’s in disabled child’s best interest—not you (NEVER! The U.N. has NO jurisdiction over me! GOD does; the U.N. does NOT!—my addition).

If 67 Senators agree to it, this treaty would inject government between parents and their special needs children on everything from homeschooling to abortion access. Phyllis Schalfly points out, ‘The feminists saw to it that this treaty about disabilities includes language in Article 25 that requires signatories to ‘provide persons with disabilities ... free or affordable health care, including in the area of sexual and reproductive health and population-based health programs (That is to say, the MURDER of unborn children!—my addition).’’

Other countries may be willing to sign over their autonomy in these areas, but the United States should know better. Contact your Senators today (202-224-3121) and remind them that nothing short of our authority as parents—and as a nation—are at stake.”

Rick Santorum has sent me information on this too as well as others. The U.S. should not accept any U.N. treaty. It is a corrupt body that promotes the MURDER of unborn babies. We should get out of the U.N. and get the U.N. out of the U.S. Corruption breeds corruption. Of course, the U.S. is becoming more and more corrupt even without the help of the U.N. Democrats plus the U.N. = moral corruption. The Party of MURDER teamed up with nations of MURDER! Parents hide your children from such EVIL!

“Amazing 4-D Ultrasound Captures Baby Yawning in the Womb

by Steven Ertelt
London, England
LifeNews.com

A British doctor has capture an amazing 4-D ultrasound photo of a baby yawning in the womb. Fetal development pictures like this help people understand exactly what is taking place in an abortion—the destruction of human life.

These kinds of photos help people realize that the unborn baby before birth is a human being, whose features, personality and actions are rapidly developing.

In past studies, scientists couldn’t tell if unborn babies were merely opening their mouth or yawning. But, as an NPR report indicates, ‘Nadja Reissland, a researcher at the University of Durham in the United Kingdom, used a more detailed ultrasound technique to get images of fetal faces that could distinguish a true yawn from just an open mouth.’

‘They seem to open their mouths widely much less often than they yawn,’ Reissland says.

From the report:

What’s more, she found that yawning was common at 24 weeks but then dropped to zero at 36 weeks, according to a report by Reissland and her colleagues in the journal PLOS ONE.

Reissland believes that fetal yawning may somehow help trigger brain maturation, by acting as a kind of self-stimulation for the developing fetus.

‘It could be that yawning is something which you need in order to have a functioning brain, which is a hypothesis,’ she says, adding that she would like to compare yawning in healthy fetuses, like the ones she studied, with yawning in fetuses that have medical conditions.”

“Several years ago, our founder, Seamus Hasson, wrote the following piece about Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do:

Forgetting the holy: The Feast of the Intransitive Verb

http://www.becketfund.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Forgetting-the-holy-The-Feast-of-the-Intransitive-Verb.pdf

Published Thursday, November 25, 1999

By Kevin ‘Seamus’ Hasson

Every fourth Thursday in November work and school are canceled so that families can gather together for the day and thank—well, we’ll get to just who it is they may be thanking in a minute. They also enjoy good food, good company and good football. The holiday is currently called Thanksgiving, although there is reason to think that may have to change.

Just about every other religious holiday has been stripped of its original meaning and transformed into a more secular version of its former self. Why should Thanksgiving be any different? In Pittsburgh, Christmas and Hanukkah morphed into ‘Sparkle Season’ and then disintegrated further into ‘Downtown Pittsburgh Sparkles.’ Public school systems across the country are renaming the Easter Bunny the ‘Special Bunny.’ Even Halloween is being transformed out of concern for its rampant religiosity. In many places it is now the ‘Fall Festival Celebration.’ Surely Thanksgiving, a state-sanctioned holiday that purports to give the nation a day to thank God, cannot withstand the small, furious army of radical secularists determined to take the ‘holy’ out of our holidays. A day set aside to thank God can hardly be appropriate when the celebration of Christmas, Hanukkah and even Halloween has become taboo. Something will have to be done.

So I have a modest proposal: Let’s practice truth-in-labeling and call the November holiday that was formerly Thanksgiving, ‘The Feast of the Intransitive Verb.’ Intransitive verbs, as we all remember from those unpleasant days of diagramming sentences in grammar school, are verbs that do not require an object. Verbs in sentences like ‘The horse ran’ and ‘The wind blows’ are intransitive because the horse doesn’t have to run anything or the wind blow anything. They can simply run and blow without any object at all. Well, what about the verb ‘to thank’? It’s supposed to have an object. You can’t just sit there and ‘thank.’ You have to thank someone. Which is why secularists don’t use that word much in late November anymore. Their creed requires them to celebrate the day by being grateful while thanking no one. And it’s embarrassing to have to choose between being politically and grammatically correct. So secularists prefer the circumlocution ‘to give thanks.’ It doesn’t require an object. You can get away with ‘giving thanks’ without having to be grateful to anyone in particular. It’s much more comfortable that way. Thank whomever you want. Or, don’t thank anyone, it’s entirely up to you. Either way you can still ‘give thanks.’ That’s the beauty of using an intransitive verb; it doesn’t need any object.

Of course, once the object of our gratitude is out of the way it’s all down hill. The rest of the day is uncommonly easy to secularize. It has none of the outward trappings of a religious holiday. There are no babes in mangers or symbolic candles to remove from courthouse steps. No one is ringing church bells that require silencing or allowing children to hunt for eggs that must be renamed. The staples of Thanksgiving—turkeys, cornucopias and pumpkin pies—in and of themselves present no real threat to the secularist ascendancy. And the football games are an absolute godsend (so to speak) for secularists. After all, the more distracted we all are the easier it is to forget about the one to whom we owe gratitude.

So let’s hear it for the Feast of the Intransitive Verb. It’s a worthy companion to ‘Sparkle Season’ (formerly known as Christmas), ‘Special Person Day’ (previously St. Valentine’s Day), and the ‘Spring Festival,’ which was once Easter. Of course, if all this isn’t agreeable to you, if it all seems just a little bit extreme, or even if you’re just worried that turkey and cranberries may never taste the same again, you could always be a thumb in the eye of the radical secularists. You could insist on thanking God, and not settle for generically ‘giving thanks.’ You could tell your neighbors that you’re grateful to God for all He’s done for you. You could even go so far as to tell your children to do the same—to make sure that amidst all the construction paper turkeys they fashion in school they get the message across that they, too, are thanking God.

Defending the public integrity of our holidays is not just petulance. Cultures are built, and eroded, by a succession of public acts both great and small. Everything from the arts we exhibit to the table manners we display makes a difference in building up or wearing down our culture. Public holiday celebrations are particularly potent engines of culture—which is why the secularists have poured so much energy into changing ours. Pittsburgh’s ‘sparkle season,’ for example, has done great damage, not only to Christmas in Pennsylvania, but to our culture nationally. But the fight is far from over. So this weekend enlist in the culture war and thank God.

Kevin J. Hasson is the founder and president of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty.”

“Now Thank You All Our God

Written by FRC Senior Fellow Bob Morrison

This Thanksgiving, we are given another opportunity to examine our hearts and ask ourselves what we are truly thankful for. As American Christians, we can surely thank God for our abundant harvest. Despite difficult economic times that have dragged on for years, America’s farmers, by God’s grace and their own untiring labors, have continued to bring forth the bounty of the earth. For this we should be profoundly grateful. Yes, this year’s Thanksgiving feast will be a bit more expensive than last year's. But at an estimated $50 to feed a table of ten, this dinner is truly a wonder.

Simply to gather around a holiday meal and not have to hide, not have to close the shutters, is a blessing. For millions of our fellow Christians, this is not possible. Around the world, in North Korea, China, and especially in the Bloody Crescent, too often the breaking of bread is accompanied by the breaking of heads. We at Family Research Council will pause in our celebrations to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in other lands. Our hearts are attuned to the cry of the martyrs.

Last year, we saluted the Romeike family of Tennessee. These Christian home schoolers came to our shores to escape from the unjust laws in their native land—Germany. We welcome this dear family because we see in them the proper descendents of those first English Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620. For millions of immigrants arriving here under our protection and under our laws, religious freedom is that beacon of light that draws them here. Ironically, it was German Chancellor Angela Merkel who just weeks ago captured the attention of the world by saying it was Christians who are the most persecuted on earth. We thank God for Chancellor Merkel’s courage. We note that this pastor’s daughter has been willing to speak out when many of her male colleagues have cowered and denied the obvious truth.

Caring for our dear fellow Christians undergoing tribulations does not mean we do not care for those in other communities. Our hearts go out especially to the Jews in Israel, who daily endure rocket attacks. Their harvest celebrations are too often punctuated by the wail of an air raid siren. They must grab their toddlers and their gas masks and head for the bomb shelters. The Baha’i in Iran, the Buddhists in Tibet, and the Huigars in Xinjiang Province in China, each of these religious minorities faces cruel oppression. When we pray for our fellow Christians, we are not unmindful of friends in other religions who are likewise endangered.

We also recognize that while we as Christians are not yet meeting in catacombs in America, this home of freedom, there is growing intolerance for the public profession of our faith. FRC has raised the banner of belief. We have sounded the bell of freedom to warn of mounting threats to our free exercise of religion. This Thanksgiving is a good time to pray that we will see a revival of the faith in America and a renewal of our country’s commitment to its First Freedom. We ask for the freedom to worship, to be sure. But we will press for more. We will assert our rights as citizens of this Great Republic. We will insist upon the right to witness for Christ in the public square, knowing we must obey God rather than men.

We have recently celebrated the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. This magnificent work has done so much to shape our language, our thoughts, and our very image of our Lord. Still, it was this same King James of England and Scotland who threatened those long ago Pilgrims. ‘They will conform or I will harry them out of the kingdom,’ he decreed. King James thought he could force these Christian dissenters to attend his church and pay taxes to support his clergy.

It was from resistance to this idea—that the government can dictate to the consciences of the people (Think the perverted homosexual agenda and wantonly MURDERING unborn babies!—my addition)—that America was born. The Pilgrims’ Thanksgiving feast of 1621 would never have happened had they stayed at home in England and bowed their necks to the king’s yoke.

Thanksgiving is thus for us as American as the Fourth of July, as American as apple pie. And it is a special day for Christians to remember whom we thank for the blessings of liberty. Now thank we all our God.”

“Why I Will Never Go Back to Being Pro-Choice on Abortion

by Kristen Walker Hatten
Washington, DC
LifeNews.com

I get this a lot, in e-mails and comments:

‘Hey ‘Kristen,’ if that’s your REAL name. I read your dumb article because I have nothing better to do than read stuff I hate on the Internet. You’re always talking about how you used to be this big pro-choice liberal because you were uninformed and lost in the darkness or whatever. Well, how do we know you’re not uninformed NOW? How do we know you’re not just brainwashed and in two years you’ll be writing for Jezebel and condemning your dumb pro-life self? Will the real Kristen please stand up?’

I’ve never addressed these comments because I have a life. But I have a less of a life now that I am a lowly, insignificant housewife, so I’m going to address these comments.

I am pro-life because of information. I was pro-choice because of lack of information.

That’s really the simplest answer. I could stop typing now, but then you all would weep and gnash your teeth because you want more paragraphs of my wisdom over which to rejoice or send me hate mail. So let me go into a little more detail.

Not everyone is pro-life because of information. Some people are pro-life because they grew up that way, and they have given as little thought to abortion as I had when I was pro-choice. I call this a ‘default’ position. I was pro-choice by default, for the same reason I was politically liberal. It was the easy position, the one I absorbed from the media, pop culture, and other kids. Unless they receive a lot of correcting influence, most kids are gonna lean this way.

There’s a saying: ‘If you’re not a liberal at 20, you have no heart. If you’re still a liberal at 40, you have no brain.’ I get it. Liberalism is obvious to children, because the most obvious way to help people is to give them stuff and be ‘nice’ to them. It takes a lifetime of learning—and, in my opinion, usually the influence of religion, which helps one understand that man can’t fix all of Earth’s problems—to realize that giving people ‘free’ stuff is impossible, because nothing is free. And because giving people stuff and being ‘nice’ to them is not nice, or helpful; it leads to dependency and corruption and general crappiness. (See Africa, ruined by aid. See also certain parts of Chicago, ruined by leniency [And see people ruined by lack of responsibility! Once we are no longer children, we are responsible for ALL we do and say!—my addition].)

I read this book. It’s a great book to read if you want to understand why people are conservatives. It was written by David Mamet, the playwright, and it’s called The Secret Knowledge: On the Dismantling of American Culture. He says something in that book that made me stop in my tracks, and it was this: ‘Kindness to the wicked is cruelty to the righteous (My use of red—my addition).’

The Dalai Lama said, ‘My religion is kindness.’ Doesn’t that sound like a beautiful thing? Liberals love it. You can buy a calendar festooned with quotes like that, and pictures of the Dalai Lama looking at flowers, in every bookstore in San Francisco.

The problem is that kindness doesn’t work in every situation. To use a pretty worn out example because it’s a good one, if we were kind to the Germans and Japanese in World War II, the good guys would have perished from the earth. We’d all be speaking German and heiling Hitler right now, or we’d be dead. We wouldn’t be America, that’s for sure. Kindness to Hitler would have been cruelty to the Jews and other enemies of the state he was busy slaughtering. In order to be kind to the Jews and the gypsies and the gays and the priests and the Americans, etc., we had to be cruel to the Nazis. We had to make a choice.

When it comes to abortion, kindness to the mother is cruelty to the child.

And in this case, as in many, kindness isn’t particularly kind. How is it kind to teach someone nothing, to offer her no instruction because it is ‘mean,’ to watch her walk away to make the same mistakes again that caused them grief and desperation and pain and confusion and sorrow—and led to the death of her child? Is that kindness? Giving her some condoms and a phone number for Medicaid?

To me, kindness is telling people the truth: this will kill your child. You are a mother now. It is your responsibility to protect this (Your—my addition) child (My use of red—my addition). You have other options, and we will help you every step of the way, but if you decide to let a doctor kill your baby, you will regret it for the rest of your life.

That is real kindness. Not the lie that a handful of cash will make it all go away.

But see, the other side has the easy sell. The lie is always easier (My use of red—my addition): ‘Republicans are mean; here’s some free stuff.’ The ‘default’ position is the easy one you glean from movies and cool grownups. At 26, I had absolutely no idea what abortion really was. I literally, truly thought it was a ‘clump of cells.’ It was information, it was truth, that changed my mind.

This is not to say everyone who is pro-choice lacks information. There are people right now working in clinics whose job it is to count the body parts and make sure there are no arms or fingers or heads left inside women to cause infection. Gotta make sure they got it all! These people certainly do not labor under any illusions about the baby being a ‘clump of cells.’

So how do they do it? Sister, you got me. I do not know. I know that even pro-choice Kristen would have run from that room screaming and puking. Listen: I know very good people who used to do this job and are now pro-life. Being Catholic, I think there are probably demons involved, and I am not even remotely joking. I think it is possible to delude yourself that you are doing ‘good’ even while sifting through your bloody fingers tangible evidence of unspeakable evil. Humans are clever like that. We can do all sorts of mental acrobatics to make ourselves the good guys.

I spent the first few weeks of being pro-life trying desperately to stuff the genie back in the bottle—to reverse the spell, if you will. I wanted the internet to make me pro-choice again soooo bad. I knew what I was in for: I was going to be one of the dumb, backwards, mean, lady-hating pro-life wackos. But it couldn’t be done. And that is your answer, e-mail-haters and internet-commenters. That is how you know I will not be backpedaling and becoming liberal, pro-choice Kristen again: because once things are learned, they can’t be unlearned. And in the past six years—almost exactly—of reading and talking and arguing and writing, I have learned nothing new that would un-convince me of the humanity of the unborn, or the evil of abortion (My use of red—my addition).

LifeNews.com Note: Kristen Walker is Vice President of New Wave Feminists. This post originally appeared at the Live Action blog and is reprinted with permission.”

There are only two choices for those who claim to be pro-choice. 1) MURDER your unborn child 2) Deliver your unborn child bringing a new life into the world instead of MURDERING that life in the womb! People who claim to be pro-choice are really pro-MURDER. Otherwise, they would be PRO-LIFE!!!

Disobey the Federal Government or Disobey GOD?

“Disobey the Mandate
By Kevin McCullough

If someone had told me in 2009 that President Obama would get close to ten million fewer votes in 2012, I’d have both laughed out loud and simultaneously thought to myself, ‘we’ll take that.’

Of course now, I can’t explain why I would’ve been so happy.

Nonetheless the President’s underwhelming yet historic win, by a quite slim margin of victory, has caused the word ‘mandate’ to cross the lips of left-leaning opinion makers once again showing the true delusion of those who back team Obama.

One of the specific areas that such a ‘mandate’ is demanding adherence to across the nation is found in the discussion of an actual legal mandate listed in the Obama-care legislation.

The requirement of the Health & Human Services mandate to force employers to provide insurance coverage for birth control and abortions—without question—violates the conscience and deeply held beliefs of committed Christians and pro-life voters. The administration, assuming they have a ‘mandate,’ believe now is the time to enforce THE mandate.

Never mind that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops felt so assaulted by the requirement that they hauled the Obama administration into court. Never mind that dozens of additional faith-based institutions have joined the cause. Never mind that President Obama’s most loyal base—African American church goers—violently disagree with the plank, the administration presses ahead.

There is little violence that compares to the violence of forcing an individual to take actions against his own soul.

Yet the reality of this violence, this torture, this pain—is something that the administration seems immune to understanding.

To be clear, forcing a person who has honest pro-life convictions to supply the means, money, or mechanism to have a child aborted is the equivalent of forcing a Jewish prisoner of war in World War II to place the bodies of fellow Jews into the incinerators at Auschwitz.

There is no difference.

This striking, hardened, indifference by the President and his staff tells us a great deal about the character, temperament, and values of our newly re-elected first-servant (He does not have any moral values. He is evil. But we knew that since he is the most openly PRO-MURDER President in our history! He has also said he will shut down the federal government before he would approve the ending of the funding of Planned MURDERHOOD! Will the House have the guts to stand by their alleged pro-life convictions and end the funding of Planned MURDERHOOD?—my addition).

Since the courts will now not overturn the Obama-care legislation, since the elected class sneers at the idea of doing away with the mandate, and since there are no other paths to legal change for this matter it becomes clear the only path left is defiance.

The government has no more right to force a person of deep religious conviction to provide the means of death to innocent children, than do they to come into one’s bedroom and rape one’s wife. The difference being that rape is a lesser crime than extermination.

In the principled argument of obeying the human law of established government, God is clear that we should obey the human government. The exception to this biblical principle stems from a conflict between the law of man and the law of God.

For those that believe their relationship with God is of moral priority, to violate His law, is to commit multiple transgressions against the author of their soul. It is to commit blasphemy and rebellion against the one they are pledged to obey.

Thusly, like Dietrich Bonhoeffer defied the tyranny of the National Socialists of his time, it is time for people of genuine faith to run the risk of consequence in order to demonstrate faithfulness (AMEN! Also historically, when the church is persecuted; the church grows!!!—my addition).

Demonstrate such faithfulness to God and his principles ...

Demonstrate such faithfulness on behalf of the innocent victims who would be exterminated otherwise ...

The consequence of such defiance is not yet understood. If successful it might create such a constitutional crisis that the court might be forced to reexamine what it has done to force violence upon the human soul. At worst those who do defy might begin to be jailed, as they are in Canada, and other nations in which the governments have limited religious freedoms and are seeking to choke people of faith with a society of pagan secularism which is in itself a propagated religious belief system.

There is a time of great purity that awaits people of faith in the days, weeks, and next four years to come.

An Eric Holder led justice department—actively seeking to subvert justice, implement a political agenda, and give almost no thought to accountability for its own actions (They certainly DO NOT FEAR GOD which in itself is the height of ignorance! Even demons believe in GOD and tremble! [James 2: 19]—my addition)—may be quite eager to engage, pursue, and prosecute those who they deem political opponents. A Janet Napolitano led Department of Homeland Security may work hand in hand with Holder to track those she has already labeled as dangerous—all the while ignoring genuine national security threats. And a Barack Obama appointed and remade Supreme Court may throw out the actual rule of actual law and for the foreseeable future checks and balances may be lifted all together.

Bonhoeffer can almost be heard warning us from the grave.

Yet by his example, we must be faithful, regardless of the consequence that awaits.

So ... Disobey the mandate, and defy this law.

For when it becomes necessary to follow one’s conscience—especially to save the lives of those who are most vulnerable—citizens and institutions have a requirement to violate that law.

And when any law violates human dignity, and by extension God’s greater moral code—‘We The People’ have the responsibility and moral authority to disobey it.”

I’ve already have said that I have stopped filing my tax return since the 2009 tax year. There are other things that may be done. If you don’t carry insurance and choose not to, don’t. Then, when you file your tax return don’t pay the penalty. From what I understand, the law allows the IRS to take any refund if the penalty is not paid. Therefore, adjust your withholding schedule so that at the end of the tax year, you owe taxes rather than receive a refund. The IRS can not take that which is not refundable. Civil disobedience over unjust, illegal, and immoral laws are in obedience to GOD!

Acts 4: 19-20 (NIV)

“But Peter and John replied, ‘Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

“Eric Holder Failed to Disclose Wife’s Abortion Clinic Ties

by Steven Ertelt
Washington, DC
LifeNews.com
11/9/12 7:20 PM

The revelations about Attorney General Eric Holder and his connection to an abortion clinic are becoming worse as new information has come to light showing he failed to disclose his wife’s co-owning of an abortion business.

Just before the election, Human Events broke the news that Holder’s wife and sister-in-law co-own, through a family trust, the building where a controversial abortion practitioner operates.

http://www.lifenews.com/2012/10/31/eric-holder-linked-to-doctor-who-killed-patient-in-abortion/

The Holder family transferred ownership to a family trust in 2009, eight months after President Barack Obama’s inauguration and a deed names Holder’s wife and sister-in-law as trustees.

Fulton County tax records show Holder’s wife and sister-in-law own the building, located at 6210 Old National Highway, College Park, Ga. A statement from the Georgia Department of Law shows the building was home to Old National Gynecology, the practice of abortion practitioner Tyrone Cecil Malloy.

Now, Human Events has an update,

http://www.humanevents.com/2012/11/08/eric-holder-under-fire-again/#.UJ2BwzCq_Wo.twitter

revealing that Holder failed to disclose his wife’s ownership of the building. The attorney general’s financial disclosure reports for 2008 through 2011 show Holder neglected to report his wife’s co-ownership.

Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch in Washington, D.C., said he was ‘surprised there is this trust out there and (Holder) hasn’t reported it.’

‘It looks to me like the sort of thing that should be disclosed. If he and his spouse are gaining income off this trust, generally that would be subject to disclosure,’ Fitton said. ‘I mean, if you have an ownership interest, you get the income. You may not be making the day-to-day decisions about the investments, but you are certainly benefiting from them.’

Holder did not respond to several requests for comment.

Dana Cody, an attorney and the president and executive director of Life Legal Defense Foundation, a pro-life legal defense organization in Napa, California, agreed that Holder should have ‘disclosed any financial interest he had in the abortion industry.’

Under the Ethics in Government Act of 1978, high-level federal officials are required to ‘disclose publicly their personal financial interests to ensure confidence in the integrity of the federal government by demonstrating that they are able to carry out their duties without compromising the public trust (Is this why the federal government is not prosecuting the alleged fraud by Planned MURDERHOOD against Medicaid?—my addition).’

The law further requires disclosure of the ‘holdings of and income from the holdings of any trust, estate, investment fund or other financial arrangement from which income is received by, or with respect to which a beneficial interest in principal or income is held by, the filer, his spouse, or dependent child.’

Those found violating the law can face penalties ranging from criminal and civil fines to imprisonment, according to the U.S. Office of Government Ethics. This includes fines of up to $50,000 and a maximum of a year imprisonment, if the non-disclosure was done willfully, according to the Office of Government Ethics.

Interestingly, though he did not disclose his connection to the abortion practice, Holder did disclose his wife’s ownership of a D.C.-area medical practice and her pension.

Holder has failed to prosecute abortion practitioners

http://www.lifenews.com/2012/08/23/forget-akin-obama-ignored-planned-parenthood-sex-trafficking-videos/

who run afoul of federal laws and some say the connection helps explain why he has been eager to prosecute pro-life advocates

http://www.lifenews.com/2012/04/09/eric-holders-conspiracy-against-pro-life-advocates/

who protest outside of abortion centers.

About the abortion practitioner that works at the Holder-owned abortion clinic, LifeNews reported in December 2011

http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/20/abortion-practitioner-arrested-for-medicaid-fraud-in-georgia/

that Malloy faces accusations of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in Medicaid payments that were fraudulent.

Tyrone Malloy and his abortion facility office manager were arrested, according to a spokesman for the office of the Georgia Attorney General. Malloy and office manager CathyAnn Warner reportedly took in more than $380,000 in payments for pre-abortion ultrasounds Malloy never did and abortions that did not qualify for reimbursement under Medicaid.

Malloy and Warner were indicted by a grand jury on two counts of Medicaid fraud and, if they are convicted, they face 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. After his arrest, Malloy posted bond. Federal rules allow for Medicaid funding for abortions only if they are done in the very rare cases such as saving the life of the mother or rape or incest.”

“Obama on Giving Tax $$ to Planned Parenthood: ‘Sometimes You’ve Got to Stand on Principle’

By Fred Lucas

November 5, 2012

(CNSNews.com)—Concerning budget negotiations with Republicans, President Barack Obama made clear in a campaign speech on Monday in Madison, Wisconsin, that he would not compromise on federal funding for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.

Obama identified preserving taxpayer subsidies for the nation’s largest abortion provider among other top priorities in a speech given one day before the presidential election.

‘Sometimes you got to fight. Sometimes you’ve got to stand on principle,’ Obama said.

‘If the price of peace in Washington is cutting deals to cut students off financial aid, or get rid of funding to Planned Parenthood, or let insurance companies discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions or eliminate health care for millions of folks on Medicaid who are poor or elderly or disabled, I won’t pay that price,’ Obama continued. ‘That’s not a deal I’ll take. That’s not bipartisanship. That’s not change. That’s surrender (In four years in office, name one bipartisan thing Barack Hussein Obama has ever done!—my addition).’

Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion-provider in the nation. According to its own fact sheets, Planned Parenthood performed 985,731 abortions between 20008 and 2010—329,445 in 2010 alone. Planned Parenthood also receives taxpayer money every year and got $487.4 million in 2009-2010 (And spend $15 million to help reelect Barack Hussein Obama so it could continue stealing our money to MURDER unborn babies!—my addition).”

You will know them by their words and actions. Giving federal moneyour moneyto the largest single MURDERER of unborn babies is one of Barack Hussein Obama’s principles!

And we reelected him to the office. We stand before GOD as a nation which is unrepentant and disobedient! How well do you suppose that works when you are defying GOD!

“Planned Parenthood: Millions in Medicaid Fraud, $15M for Obama Campaign

by Tony Perkins
Washington, DC
LifeNews.com
11/15/12 11:38 AM

Apparently, Planned Parenthood is no longer content exploiting just women and children—so they’ve moved on to the federal government. Over the past several years, it seems the country’s biggest abortion provider has also been running one of the country’s biggest scams: a Medicaid racket that’s ripped off millions of taxpayer dollars (Notice in the above article the President said he would not allow Congress to cut money from Medicaid. Is that so Planned MURDERHOOD may continue its fraud? Do you think the Department of Injustice will investigate?—my addition).

Today, it appears that at least six states have been targeted by Cecile Richards’s scheme, which reportedly conned the government with hundreds of thousands of bogus reimbursement claims.

One of those states—Texas—will be hearing its first arguments on the issue this week in U.S. District Court, thanks to former Planned Parenthood director-turned-whistleblower Abby Johnson. With the help of Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), she plans to expose at least 87,000 instances of fraud during her time as a clinic manager in Southeast Texas.

Based on her testimony and supporting documents, Planned Parenthood routinely submitted ineligible claims on everything from pap smears to STD and pregnancy tests. In fact, Johnson says her bosses at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast were under so much financial pressure that they would repeatedly tell staff, ‘We must turn every call and visit into a revenue-generating client.’

A ring of at least 10 clinics were falsifying patient charts, which they would ‘fix’ and ‘cover up’ before the auditors and inspectors came.

‘People may hold different views about abortion,’ Johnson says, ‘but everyone can agree that Planned Parenthood should play by the same rules as everyone else. It certainly isn’t entitled to any public funds, especially if it is defrauding Medicaid and the American taxpayer.’

In states like Iowa, the plot was so sophisticated that clinics were getting $26.32 reimbursement checks for a $2.98 package of birth control. State and local governments have poured more than a billion dollars into Richards’s group—and this is how she repays them? Twenty-eight million in stolen funds in Iowa, $6 million in Texas, $180 million in California, and similar allegations in New York, New Jersey, and Illinois.

And while we can’t say exactly where the dollars went, evidence suggests President Obama’s campaign was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Planned Parenthood’s largesse. Thanks to this extra revenue from overbilling, Richards’s group had the flexibility to spend a whopping $15 million to put Barack Obama back in the White House, where he can keep the money flowing to his favorite chain.

When an organization like Planned Parenthood is suspected of not just fraud, but criminal cover-ups, falsifying medical information, violating safety standards, encouraging prostitution and sex trafficking, medical malpractice, sex-selection abortion, accepting racially-motivated donations, and huge profits, this is no longer about abortion. It’s about accountability.

The Treasury Department announced yesterday that America is on track for its fifth straight trillion dollar deficit, yet our government continues to funnel hundreds of millions of dollars to this group, which also happens to be under congressional investigation! If both parties are serious about cutting spending (and nothing they’ve done recently suggests they are) then it’s time to put an end to this relentless cycle of exploitation. The war on women was a hoax. The war on taxpayers is not.

From: Americans United for Life www.aul.org

“AUL says State Government Gains and Gubernatorial Leadership Mean More

Pro-life Gains Likely

In spite of the status quo results in the Presidential and Congressional election, the experts at Americans United for Life say that there is a path for pro-life victories through the results. AUL President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest noted victories would be possible ‘because at the grassroots level, new pro-life leaders are taking their seats in gubernatorial offices and state houses across the country.’

Four pro-life governors won election last week. Among those is Indiana where pro-life hero Congressman Mike Pence is the new incoming Governor. In Congress, Mike Pence was a prominent pro-life leader working year after year in an effort to completely defund Planned Parenthood at the federal level. Pro-life incumbent governors won by big margins as well.

State Legislatures made the switch to life-affirming leadership. Due to changes in some state legislative chambers, new pro-life gains are now probable in states like Arkansas, which had an historic change of power. Also other states like Indiana and North Carolina picked up more pro-life seats so they are now at or near supermajority level.

‘The balance of power we see in most states means AUL and our allies can continue to make significant legislative gains for life, as we have in the last few years,’ said Dr. Yoest.

In a recent profile in The New York Times magazine, reporter Emily Bazelon noted what such state dynamics have meant to the work of AUL and Dr. Yoest. Legislative gains helped ‘push through the greatest number of abortion restrictions since the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. In 2011, after Republicans made gains in statehouses across the country, 24 state legislatures passed 92 abortion restrictions—more than double the total for any previous year. The pace slowed in the first half of 2012, with 40 new provisions passed in 17 states. Around one-third of the bills, with names like the Abortion Patients’ Enhanced Safety Act and the Women’s Health Defense Act, were written by AUL.’ To read the entire article, click here.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/04/magazine/charmaine-yoests-cheerful-war-on-abortion.html?pagewanted=all&_r=1&

Yoest observed, ‘Over the last two years, we saw over 160 new pro-life laws enacted in the states. We expect bills such as clinic regulations, regulation of abortion-inducing drugs, defunding abortion providers, and conscience protections to top the list of what states are doing next.’

AUL’s specialty of creating life-affirming model legislation that can be employed across the country is having an impact, even as Washington, D.C. remains deadlocked. This is a grassroots effort, flexible, transportable, and powerful. With your support, AUL will go from state house to state house, helping newly elected legislators to make their mark on the laws of their states.

On the Ballot: A Round of Up of Life-Related Initiatives

Citizens in several states voted on life-related ballot initiatives on November 6th. Below is a summary of the results, and why they are important.

1) A Win for Protecting the Ill and Elderly: Massachusetts Q 2—‘Death with Dignity’ Initiative

Citizens of Massachusetts rejected the legalization of physician assisted-suicide, a decisive action that will protect vulnerable individuals facing the end of life. The so-called ‘death with dignity’ initiative failed to provide even basic safeguards and would have opened the door to a litany of abuses and dangers. Massachusetts’ citizens should be commended for standing by the principle that physician-assisted suicide does not affirm the life or the dignity of individuals facing serious illness or death.

2) A Win for Protecting Vulnerable, Young Girls and their Children: Montana Legislative Ref. No. 120: ‘Montana Parental Notification Measure’

A determined effort to protect Montana’s young girls prevailed Tuesday, when citizens voted to enact a law requiring parental notification prior to an abortion for minors 15 years of age and younger. Prior attempts to protect pregnant, underage girls and their unborn children in Montana were thwarted by courts. By voting for L.R. 120, Montanans acted to protect girls from sexual abuse and exploitation and from dangers inherent in abortion, while standing up for parental rights. Research shows that when parents or guardians are involved in making an abortion decision, the abortion rate drops.

3) A Win for Protecting the First Amendment Rights of Americans: Alabama Amendment 6, Wyoming Constitutional Amendment A, Montana Legislative Referendum No. 122, and Missouri Senate Bill No. 464

Voters in three states—Alabama, Wyoming, and Montana—voted for state law amendments providing that their citizens should not be compelled to participate in any healthcare system (a similar measure failed in Florida). By doing so, they voted to protect the freedom of conscience of individuals, employers, and healthcare providers who object to providing or paying for certain services that are included in a particular healthcare system, such as abortion or ‘contraception’ with life-ending mechanisms of action.

Voters in Missouri supported a measure prohibiting the establishment of a health insurance Exchange—required by Obamacare—by any means other than a legislative bill, an initiative petition, or a referendum. Through this vote, citizens may successfully prevent Governor Jay Nixon, who is pro-abortion, from instituting new anti-life policies through the state’s Exchange.

Six States Challenge the Obama Administration’s HHS Mandate in Court

AUL attorneys filed a brief this week in Nebraska v. Health and Human Services, a case initiated by the state of Nebraska and six other states challenging the Obama Administration’s ‘HHS Mandate,’ which requires that employers provide insurance coverage for all forms of FDA-approved ‘contraception,’ including life-ending drugs and devices classified as ‘emergency contraception.’ To read more on AUL’s effort, click here.

“Republicans Should Modify Our Message Not Moderate Our Value

The political philosophy of the Republican Party and Governor Mitt Romney during the presidential campaign was to downplay social issues and focus solely on jobs and the economy (My use of red—my addition). Four year ago, McCain, like Romney, could not and would not articulate the full panoply of conservative values. Their strategy didn’t work in 2008, and it didn’t work in 2012.’

The Republican Party had enormous success in the 2010 mid-term election. At that time Tea Party activists and social conservatives worked together to usher in one of the largest changes in American history. In 2010, the Republican establishment was pushed aside as the grassroots took control of primaries and party conventions and selected pro-life, pro-family, and pro-national defense men and women to lead with integrity and honor.

As we look at the 2012 election and search for answers, we can see that the problem began in the primary. Tea Party activists, Christians, and pro-family Americans could not agree on a conservative candidate, and the Republican establishment supported a moderate. Romney failed to excite in the primaries, and he failed again in the general election.

But for his well-financed campaign, Romney would not have become the Republican nominee. The grassroots never fully embraced him, and he never embraced the grassroots. When invited to speak at churches or conservative, religious meetings, he refused or did not respond. He refused to roll up his sleeves and speak to a variety of constituents. He wrongly thought his one-note message of jobs and the economy would win the day, but while that issue is exceptionally important, he failed to reach the hearts and emotions of the electorate and ran from any issue that fell outside of jobs and the economy. (And as I’ve said many times, in any powerful nation that falls by the wayside, first the moral values fail and then the economy fails!—my addition) Even during the last debate on foreign policy, he oddly tried to turn the topic back to his jobs and economy message.

Uninspired, conservatives, Republicans, Independents and Blue Dog Democrats stayed home, or worse, voted for Obama (Or voted for a third party candidate or did not vote for the Presidential office!—my addition). Independents and Blue Dog Democrats could not see the stark difference between one-note Romney and Obama. Despite 4 years under the most pro-abortion, pro-same-sex marriage, anti-religious freedom, big government and weak foreign policy President, Governor Romney received nearly 1 million fewer votes than Senator John McCain. Anybody could have shown the stark difference between Obama’s anti-colonial ideology and mainstream America. Anybody but Romney and the establishment.

While evangelical Christians represented 26% of the total vote in 2008 and again in 2012, the issues that matter to this voting bloc were largely ignored! This enormous voting bloc could produce positive change if it had a pro-life, pro-marriage candidate who would inspire and unify them (And a much larger turnout than 26%! The Democrats cater to its base why don’t the Republicans?—my addition). They have always been the grassroots activists, but Romney failed to reach out to them in a significant way. He failed to mobilize them.

Ten percent of all the votes cast in 2012 came from Hispanics, but the GOP and Romney’s jobs message did not resonate with this demographic either. Despite the fact that Hispanics are traditionally family-centered, the most anti-family President in American history received 71% of the Hispanic vote, up from the 67% he received in 2008. Romney had no plan for Hispanics. He blew an opportunity when he spoke before them, and he failed to share a shred of concern for them.

‘During the second debate, Romney was asked a question by a Hispanic female about his plan to deal with the undocumented immigrants. He ignored the question, skimmed the answer without addressing it, and followed up on a prior question. I knew then that he had lost the Hispanic vote. He did nothing of significance to reach out to the Hispanic community. He failed to inspire Latinos and give them hope for America. Republicans need to embrace their conservative values and reach out to Hispanics, not marginalize them.

‘As the only Caucasian who serves on the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, which represents nearly 41,000 Evangelical Hispanic churches, I think I know a bit about this community. It is time the Republican Party listens. The Party will find there is a lot more in common than they might think. Their values are not those of the Democratic Party, but the Democrats appear to Latinos to be the only Party that listens and at least appears to care.

In the last debate on foreign policy when asked about the Libyan tragedy and the shameful way the Obama Administration handled this matter, Romney dodged the question and veered off to the economy and jobs. Obama gave Romney an October surprise with his mishandling of Benghazi, but Romney could sing only one note—the economy and jobs (There are things that are MORE IMPORTANT than moneyfaith, liberty, life, morality, GOD!—my addition). The exit polls showed more people trusted Obama on foreign affairs than Romney. This is inconceivable, except for the fact that Romney was almost mute about foreign affairs.

‘During the Republican Primary, when Romney carpet-bombed his opponents’ characters by radio and TV ads, he was able to rise up in the polls and come from behind. But, each time he won in the primaries, voter turnout was down from 2008. He attacked his opponent but failed to inspire. Yet, during the general election, Romney didn’t seriously attack Obama (And called him a good personthe MOST MURDEROUS President in history!—my addition). Where were the ads decrying Obama’s mishandling of Benghazi? He failed to show clear distinctions between conservative values and Obama’s radicalism.

‘For those who say the Republican Party needs to moderate its views to win, they easily forget the 2004 and 2010 elections. Both were mandates. The 2012 election is not a mandate for anything. What it teaches us is that the voter turnout was less in 2012 than 2008, and that Romney got even fewer votes than McCain, something I thought could not be possible. But it was possible because Romney does not resonate with conservative values. We need a thorough conservative foundation that encompasses social, economic and foreign affairs.

To the GOP establishment—Stop running from our values, and stop giving us moderate presidential candidates.

To the Church—Stop talking about voting values only at election time, and start teaching Biblical values every Sunday.

‘Republicanism was founded on a premise that all men are created equal. It is time we return to those values. When our values are clearly and unashamedly articulated, we win. When we run from them or hide them, we lose. It’s that simple (TRUE!—my addition).
