This is the fifth post of my response to the following comment posted on my blog.

The post that “anonymous” is referring to was originally posted on February 28, 2008. I had to go back to it and reread it because I did not remember saying that “there is no such thing as mental illness.” I try to be very meticulous in what I write although I am sure I sometimes do not express my thoughts as adequately as I would like.

To make sure every one is examining the same material, I have copied the entire original post minus the Bible quotations I used to support my position. The original post reads as follows:

My recent posts have involved four news stories—two dealing with the NIU murders, one on John McCain, and one about a death at the U.N. What did these three distinct articles have in common? All reported “information” based upon the ubiquitous anonymous source.

The posts dealing with anonymous sources are complete. At this time, a few thoughts about the NIU murders and the “mental health” aspects of the situation as discussed in the stories of February 17 and 18, 2008. The original article on February 17 seemed to imply that the gunman had mental health problems. I would argue that, more than mental health problems, he had SIN problems.

The article stated “The 27-year-old Kazmierczak also had a history of mental illness and had become erratic in the past two weeks after he stopped taking his medication, said university Police Chief Donald Grady.” From the two articles, it seems that the “history of mental illness” was one stint in a “mental health” facility after graduating from high school.

This is what the article said about that situation: “A former employee at a Chicago psychiatric treatment center said Kazmierczak had been placed there after high school by his parents. He used to cut himself and had resisted taking his medications, she said.

Kazmierczak spent more than a year at the Thresholds-Mary Hill House in the late 1990’s, former house manager Louise Gbadamashi told The Associated Press. His parents placed him there because he had become ‘unruly’ at home, she said.

Gbadamashi couldn’t remember any instances of him being violent, she said.

‘He never wanted to identify with being mentally ill,’ she said. ‘That was part of the problem.’” (Peoria Journal Star, February 17, 2008, page A12)

The above information about his “mental health” problems come from three sources—university Police Chief Donald Grady, an unidentified former employee (WOW! That could be a janitor for all we know. I was wrong. Anonymous sources do play into this post too.), and the former house manager of the facility.

Some questions in relation to this “mental health” problem might include the following. How reliable are the identified sources? Why would the NIU police chief know his correct mental history and whether or not he “had become erratic in the past two weeks.”? How reliable is the testimony of an unidentified former employee? How knowledgeable is the medical information from a former house manager?

Come to think of it. What happened to doctor/patient confidentiality? Does that end at the death of the patient? Then again, none of the three sources are identified as actually being doctors.

Consider these two sentences from the former house manager. “His parents placed him there because he had become ‘unruly’ at home, she said.” “‘He never wanted to identify with being mentally ill,’ she said. ‘That was part of the problem.’”

What!!! When did becoming unruly at home become identified as a mental illness! Since he was placed there by his parents, it seems that this may have occurred while he was still a minor. I think there are many minors who, having been placed in a “mental health” facility because they were unruly at home, would not “identify with being mentally ill” under the given circumstances. I think many of these same people would also be resistant to taking medicine to “control” this supposed mental illness. Wouldn’t you under similar circumstances?

The Soviet Union used to declare that citizens of that nation who opposed the system were insane. Opposition to the system was rewarded with a stint in a “mental health” institution. Does being unruly at home constitute the new definition of mentally insane requiring being locked up in a “mental health” facility with a daily routine of drug therapy? Is that frightening?

The February 18 article had these comments from the girlfriend: “She confirmed that he had stopped taking an antidepressant about three weeks ago because ‘it made him feel like a zombie,’ but she denied that his recent behavior was unusual.

‘He wasn’t erratic. He wasn’t delusional. He was Steve; he was normal,’ said Baty, who had turned down Associated Press requests by phone and in person for an interview. (Peoria Journal Star, February 18, 2008, page A9)

If the only reason he was locked up in a “mental health” facility was because he had been unruly at home, I’m surprised it took him so long to stop taking his “medication.” The real problem in all of this is not a “mental health” issue. The real issue is SIN. When a society continually attempts to remove GOD from the public arena, when a society comes to believe that all problems can be identified as being caused by a “sickness” rather than SIN, the results are inevitable. Humanistic solutions to SIN will always lead to more and greater SIN. We as a people, we as a nation CAN NOT save ourselves from SIN!!!

Government CAN NOT save us! Mental health facilities CAN NOT save us! Humanists CAN NOT save us! Libertines CAN NOT save us! Hillary Clinton, Barrack Obama, John McCain CAN NOT save us! False gods and false religions CAN NOT save us!

Only the one TRUE GOD, HIS SON JESUS the CHRIST, and the HOLY SPIRIT can save us from ourselves. WE need to repent and turn to GOD. If not, welcome to our continued degradation and fall into oblivion!

First and most obviously, I NEVER said that “there is no such thing as mental illness.” The news stories, however, did not come close to establishing that Mr. Kazmierczak was mentally ill at the time of the murders. The three quotes given in relation to his alleged mental illness were from the NIU police chief, who obviously did not know if he was mentally ill, an anonymous source (identified in the article as “a former employee”) from the mental health facility where he was in the 1990’s, who as I pointed out could have been a janitor for all we know, and the former house manager, who was NOT identified as a doctor. I also pointed out that the reason why he was placed in a mental health facility as stated in the article was because he had been “unruly” at home. None of the information provided gives any conclusive evidence that Mr. Kazmierczak was, in fact, mentally ill at the time of the murders unless being in a mental health facility is established proof that he, therefore, MUST be mentally ill.

And, surprise, surprise, IT IS NOT!!! My exact statement was “MORE (My capitalization at this time—my addition.) than mental health problems, he had SIN problems.” He had SIN problems because, surprise, surprise, murder IS a SIN!!! It does not matter if psycho-babblers recognize the possibility of SIN or not, because GOD DOES!!! Ultimately, NONE of us answers to psycho-babblers. Ultimately, ALL of us do answer to GOD!!!

I do not know if Mr. Kazmierczak was mentally ill. The anonymous writer does not know if Mr. Kazmierczak was mentally ill. Probably, the psycho-babblers do not know if Mr. Kazmierczak was mentally ill. GOD DOES!!!

Whether or not GOD takes into account mental illness in the final judgment, I do not know. As far as I know, the Bible does not provide an answer to that question. I’m rather certain, that the anonymous writer does not know the answer to that question either. I’m certain that psycho-babblers, who do not recognize the concept of SIN, do not know the answer to that question. GOD DOES!!!

Secondly, the anonymous writer continued by declaring, “Are you saying that there is no such thing as mental illness and that it is all made up to justify sinning? That must be one of the stupidest poorly informed thing that I have ever heard.” The anonymous writer may believe that declaring something that I did not declare may be “one of the stupidest poorly informed thing that I have ever heard.” However, I can think of a number of items that I would consider more outrageous that the above if I had actually said the above.
For instance:

1) believing that by removing GOD from the public arena that GOD can be removed from our lives.

2) believing that there is a Constitutional right to murder your own unborn baby.

3) believing that any group of humans can give you the right to murder your unborn baby.

4) believing that homosexual behavior is acceptable behavior.

5) believing that you will not be held accountable for your unrepentant SIN.

Thirdly, the anonymous writer asserts “to suggest that people should not seek treatment for there mental illness … is just plan negligent….” Where exactly did I say or suggest that individuals who are mentally ill should not seek treatment? I have read and reread my original post and can find no such statement or suggestion. Is the anonymous writer trying to create a “straw man argument” to try to support the unsupportable? However, this is true. The ultimate problem for man is SIN not the momentarily fashionable definition of “mental health.”

Finally, the anonymous writer proclaims “the last thing people need is some one running around telling them that it will not help.” I’m afraid that the anonymous writer is trying to give me more influence than I possess. If I had that kind of influence, the anonymous writer, as well as all others who read these posts, would be or would become Christians since as JESUS, the CHRIST—the SON of GOD—declares, “… I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14: 6 (NIV)

In conclusion, the fact is that it seems that the anonymous writer believes that man can “cure” man through the process of “solving” mental health problems and I believe that the root cause of all man-involved evil is SIN. The fact is that most psycho-babblers do not recognize the concept of SIN and therefore, from my prospective, do not address the root cause of man’s behavior. The fact is that JESUS—the SON of GOD—clearly states that such SINS including murder come from the heart. The fact is that neither the anonymous writer nor I have any say in the final judgment of every person who has ever lived. The fact is that what we believe is irrelevant. The fact is that GOD DECIDES ALL THINGS IN THE FINAL ANALYSIS!!!
