Congratulations

Congratulations to the Morton High School girls’ basketball team who Saturday night placed 4th in the Illinois State Class AA High School Tournament. During the course of the season, they defeated the top ranked team in the State, who finished 2nd in the tournament. During the State Tournament, they defeated the 2nd ranked team and lost the 3rd place game in overtime. During the year, they also defeated the preseason 5th ranked team, the 7th ranked team three times, the 13th ranked team, and the preseason 16th ranked team. They finished the year with a 31-3 record (two of the three losses were to the top ranked team in the State) and a 4th place trophy.
This season was the first time a Morton girls’ basketball team ever won the Sectional Tournament. Which means, of course, that it was the first time the team has ever won a Super Sectional game, the first time the team ever went to the State Tournament, the first time the team ever won a game at the State Tournament, and the first time that the team ever won a trophy at the State Tournament. Also, according to the Peoria Journal Star, it was the first time that a local area Class AA school (large schools) ever had two girls’ teams from the same school in the same school year compete in two different State Tournaments. The girls’ volleyball team was at State early in the school year.
What an exciting year for the two teams!
CONGRATULATIONS to all the members of the team and to all the coaches!
