Tonight I am posting an article that I first posted in 2006 on July 4th. The theme is that Freedom comes from GOD and GOD alone. The original article:
No freedoms without GOD
The following letter to the editor was in the Peoria Journal Star today (July 4, 2006, page A4).
“Today we celebrate our national birthday, remembering that the Declaration of Independence became official on July 4, 1776. It is of note that this year marks the 50th anniversary of President Eisenhower declaring ‘In God We Trust’ our official motto. Eisenhower and others recognized that this had been our unofficial motto throughout the years.
If our nation renounces this relationship between God and country, we do so at our own peril.
The voice of Thomas Jefferson, who crafted and signed the Declaration, still speaks from the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C., which has these words: ‘Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.’
In one of his earliest acts as President, the first Thanksgiving Proclamation, George Washington said it was ‘the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.’
As we observe this dual celebration of the birth of our nation and the official declaration of our long-standing motto, let’s not forget our heritage and those driving convictions which brought our nation into existence and which are the very essence of who we are. From our earliest days, we have declared ‘In God We Trust.’ To fail to remember would be something other than American and will lead to eventual disaster.

The revisionists of American history have continually denied the emphasis placed upon the importance of GOD in relation to the beginning of and the growth and prosperity of our nation. Their dream and desire is to remove GOD from the fabric of our national life. For the vast majority of our national history we were not hesitant to call upon the name of GOD for HIS divine guidance.
Then the ACLU and similarly minded people began their insidious campaign to remove all reference to GOD and reference of GOD from the public arena. They convinced a power hungry Supreme Court that the “establishment clause” was actually a “wall of separation clause” although no such wording is in the First Amendment and that concept was not the standard in the United States for most of our history. They even blatantly claimed that the “wall of separation” was best for those who believe in GOD although admittedly they personally don’t. (How kind and generous of them to worry about our wellbeing!!!)
Also in today’s paper (July 4, 2006, page A2) was a short article about a federal court decision in San Diego, California. According to the article, a cross has been on property owned by the city of San Diego “off and on for nearly a century” and continuously since 1954 when a cross was used as a part of a Korean Conflict Memorial for veterans who had served in the military during that period. According to the article, a federal judge had ordered the cross removed and had imposed a $5,000 a day fine on the city for each day it was not removed starting on August 2, 2006. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy decided the proposed fine should not take force on August 2nd. Of course, the eventual outcome is not yet known.
At this point in time, a federal court has decided that a cross on city land is a violation of the “establishment clause” of the First Amendment. That is, in the court’s thinking, putting a cross on public land is an attempt by the city of San Diego to establish a state church. That thought would be ridiculously funny if it wasn’t so perverted.
That’s like my wearing a Green Bay Packer T-shirt and declaring that I have established a Packer franchise in Morton, Illinois. Do we truly trust in GOD? If we do, it is time (past time) to take the country back from the deviants who don’t believe in GOD or moral values and now make far too many decisions which are harmful to our national wellbeing. Take back the nation or GOD may well do it for us. (This is the end of the 2006 post.)

The Declaration of Independence which is the consummate document related to our national independence day contains these words:
“When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s GOD (my capitalization—my addition) entitle them,”
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their CREATOR (My capitalization—my addition) with certain unalienable Rights,” (Notice that the founding fathers WERE NOT evolutionists who believed in slime to man!)
“We, therefore, the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, assembled, appealing to the SUPREME JUDGE (my capitalization—my addition) of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the name, and by authority of the good People of these Colonies,” (The Supreme Judge of the world is NOT the Supreme Court of the United Stated States, nor is it the king of England, nor is it any other person. The Supreme Judge is clearly the CREATOR of the universe—GOD.)
“And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the Protection of DIVINE PROVIDENCE (My capitalization—my addition), we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor." (Providence: God conceived as the power sustaining and guiding human destiny. It seems that based upon some past Supreme Court decisions, five or more Justices could declare that the Declaration of Independence is unconstitutional because of its direct references and appeals to GOD—the CREATOR—and that the Declaration of Independence could not be taught in schools because of its direct religious reference to a CREATOR!!! How utterly absurd the Supreme Court has become that they believe that they can legislate against GOD—the CREATOR!!!
