Defending the American Dream™ Summit

I received the following yesterday, the 6th of October. I’m posting it tonight because it contains a link to C-SPAN’s programming schedule. I watched a portion of the Summit but not the whole program. The e-mail as put into my format:

E-mail received from http://www.americansforprosperity.org/

“Dear Friend,

We had a tremendous crowd of more than 2,100 activists at our AFP (Americans for Prosperity—my addition) Foundation’s 3rd annual Defending the American Dream™ Summit this weekend, and I wanted to share just a few snapshots with you. The best part of my role at Americans for Prosperity Foundation is meeting folks like you.

At our closing reception on Saturday evening, I met a Vietnam veteran who had been blinded in combat. He had come with his wife, daughter, son-in-law and his grandchild. He told me he’d never attended anything like this, but given all the threats to our nation, he and his wife decided it was time they took a new stand for freedom.

After the Saturday morning session, I met a mom who had brought at least half a dozen home-schooled children from Michigan down to the summit. She said, ‘I cannot think of a more important educational experience for these kids than coming to Washington, D.C. right now to hear these speakers and send a message to Congress.’

And send a message they did.

After AFP’s Town Hall Meeting at the Capitol on Friday, we broke up into state delegations to visit individual Senate and Congressional offices.

Jim Bratten (one of our great tea party friends from Evansville, Indiana) led a group of Indiana activists into the Senate buildings. They went to Senator Evan Bayh’s office and met his staff. Then they managed to find Senator Bayh himself in the hallway, where they told him respectfully but firmly, ‘Senator, we’re here in D.C. with a simple message for you: keep your hands off our health care!’ (That’s the message that we must send!—my addition)

Teri Adams and Angela Lash told me about leading a crew of Pennsylvania activists into Senator Arlen Specter’s office, where they delivered the same message. And Dallas Woodhouse led hundreds of fired-up North Carolina activists into Senator Kay Hagan’s office where they delivered thousands of ‘Hands Off My Health Care’ petitions.

The Summit they made so successful is making a difference beyond just this weekend. Already, thousands of new grassroots activists have joined Americans for Prosperity Foundation online.

Why? Well, C-SPAN filmed the Saturday morning session and is still playing the 3 hours in full. People are watching, seeing the activists’ energy, hearing the message of leaders like Newt Gingrich (not my favorite person—my addition), Herman Cain, Senator Jim DeMint, Steve Moore and others. Then, they’re going to our website and signing up! One lady from Richmond, Virginia wrote, ‘Seeing all the passion in the room for our nation—I had to get involved with a group of people like that.’

Check C-SPAN’s schedule to see if they will air it again!

Thank you for all you’re doing for freedom. Let’s keep it up, because if we keep fighting we will win. (We need to be persistent and accurate and NEVER give up or stop—my addition.)

Sincerely,

Tim Phillips

PS: As North Carolina State Director Dallas Woodhouse said during Saturday’s General Session, we need to multiply our voices for freedom by getting five of our friends to join AFP Foundation online right now. Forward this e-mail to five of your friends and let them know what AFP Foundation is all about and then ask them to get involved by clicking HERE.” (We need to be involved and STAY involved!—my addition)
