Illegal immigration and Arizona, part 4

On July 8, 2010, page A5; the Peoria Journal Star published an article entitled "Enforcement at heart of Arizona immigration suit." The article contains the following quotes:

“On paper, Arizona’s controversial new immigration law (It is NOT controversial to a majority of citizens in the State of Arizona nor within the United States. A majority of citizens support the law and the concept--my addition.) is not that different from the federal version.

But the key difference is this: Arizona wants every illegal immigrant caught and deported. The federal government says treating all 11 million of the nation’s illegal immigrants as criminals (Aren’t they criminals--my addition) would overwhelm the system.”

So, the argument based upon this paragraph seems to be that the federal government has permitted, through lax enforcement or whatever the reason(s), too many illegal immigrants to illegally enter the United States. “Therefore, since we have allowed too many to enter, we can not possibly enforce the law as we are supposed to do!” And that is utter nonsense. What they are saying is, we caused the problem so you must allow us to throw up our hands in defeat and NOT do anything to mitigate the problem we caused.

However, if the numbers are so overwhelming and the federal government really wanted to lessen the problem, the government would welcome the State of Arizona’s offer to help through its law enforcement agencies. It seems obvious that the federal government DOES NOT want to deal with the problem. Furthermore, are all 11 million illegal immigrants located in Arizona? Last time I knew, they are not!

Besides, as I’ve been saying all along, the federal government will not have to arrest and deport 11 million illegal immigrants. If the government would enforce the laws it now has on the books, many of the illegal immigrants would leave on their own accord. They came into the country illegally. Would we really prevent them from leaving?

What should we do?

1) Enforce the law against businesses hiring illegal immigrants.

2)Tighten the borders. Not only would less illegal immigrants enter the United States but we would also make it more difficult for terrorists to enter the United States. Is there any doubt that if illegal immigrants can enter the United States with impunity that terrorists are also doing the same? Do terrorists carry signs saying “I’m a terrorist, don’t allow me to cross the border with all these other illegal immigrants?”

3) If an illegal immigrant is deported once and then returns, throw him/her into prison for several years. Actual punishment for a crime IS an ACTUAL deterrent for that crime. If illegal immigrants learn that returning to the United States leads to imprisonment, they will be far less likely to return to the United States.

4) Cut off the money that is sent back to the home country by illegal immigrants. Many illegal immigrants send a good portion of the money illegally earned in the United States back to their families. Cut it off and they will be less likely to come and/or stay in the United States.

5) Put real pressure on Mexico and Canada too, if illegal immigrants are coming across the border from Canada, to stop the illegal migration into our country. One of the reasons why it is easy for illegal immigrants to come from Mexico is that the Mexican government does nothing to stop them and in fact, arguably, encourages illegal immigration into the United States. That is NOT the action of a friendly neighbor!

In short, the government does NOT have to deport 11 million illegal immigrants. That is a “straw man” argument. If the costs are too high, they will deport themselves. However, the federal government must have the WILL and the DESIRE to stop illegal immigration and to ENFORCE its own laws. The federal government fears the new Arizona law because the Obama Administration believes that Arizona has both the WILL and the DESIRE to ENFORCE the law!

This is a supply and demand problem. Stop both the supply and the demand and the problem will be basically solved. No, we won’t stop all illegal immigration just as no law stops all prohibited activity. However, we can greatly reduce the numbers and Arizona is trying to help. Why in the world would we turn down that help unless this present administration actually wants illegal immigration.

And I thought Barack Hussein Obama was suppose to be the champion of the workingman. Not the illegal workingman but the American citizen workingman. Perhaps NOT!

Finally, after Arizona has arrested and detained an illegal immigrant, if the federal government is not willing to deport the detained illegal immigrant, I have this suggestion. By the way, the suggestion is not original with me. I heard it on a talk show.

The suggestion:

Give the detained illegal immigrant a choice. We all know how the Barack Hussein Obama Administration is keen on having choices. Either X number of years in prison in Arizona or a one way bus ticket to Los Angeles paid for by the State of Arizona. If the illegal immigrant returns to Arizona, he/she will immediately be tried and convicted for X2 years. Los Angeles should not object to Arizona sending its illegal immigrants to that fair city since the mayor of Los Angeles has said that illegal immigrants are beneficial to the city and the city has voted to boycott Arizona over it new immigration law.

All, therefore, should be happy.

1) The federal government doesn’t have to deport an illegal immigrant.

2) Arizona has one less illegal immigrant within its borders.

3) The city of Los Angeles has more workers that are a boon to the city according to the mayor.

4) The illegal immigrant gets a free trip to the second largest city in the nation.

Talk about a win-win-win-win situation! And therefore, all should be happy!
