DREAM Act/NIGHTMARE passes in the House; defeat cloture vote in the Senate

“An Urgent update on the DREAM Act

Posted by Judson Phillips on December 8, 2010 at 6:37am in Discussions

Call again today!

We have to call again today to stop the DREAM Act. As the lame duck session of Congress winds its way to the bitter end, the left is trying with its last gasp to shove amnesty through.

Harry Reid, (Corrupt-NV) has promised to end the lame duck session by December 17th. Congress has a lot on their schedule and this works to our advantage. But we cannot give up.

We have to keep calling our Senators and telling them to vote against cloture. For anyone not familiar with cloture, that is the process in the Senate to end debate on a matter. It requires 60 votes to stop debate. The good news is, all 42 Republican Senators have signed a letter saying they would vote against any bill until the government is funded and all Americans are protected against a tax hike.

That’s great, in theory. The problem is, two Republicans, RINO Richard Lugar and voted out RINO Robert Bennett have said they will support the bill.

Expect Harry Reid and the party of corruption to pull every trick out of the bag to run this through. We must stop them.

Call your Senators again. By now, you probably have the Capitol Switchboard on speed dial. The Capitol Switchboard number is (202) 224-3121. If your Senator does not answer their phone (a trick some have discovered when there is a contentious bill before the Senate), call your local office. Those phones will be answered.

There are a few of the usual suspects who need special attention.

SEN. JOHN MCCAIN (202) 224-2235; (480) 897-6289
SEN. OLYMPIA SNOWE (202) 224-5344; (207) 874-0883
SEN. LISA MURKOWSKI (202) 224-6665; (907) 271-3735
SEN. SUSAN COLLINS (202) 224-2523; (207) 945-0417
SEN. SAM BROWNBACK (202) 224-6521; (785) 233-2503

The DREAM Act is simply amnesty by another name. It will allow almost unlimited immigration by illegals and their ‘family members.’ This bill will cost at a minimum $6 billion a year. Given that figure was provided by the Democrat controlled CBO, the real figure is certainly significantly higher. Criminals may take advantage of the DREAM act.

The mere act of filling out the paperwork for the DREAM act stops ALL DEPORTATION PROCEEDINGS.

Take a few minutes to make the calls today. We have to stop this bill.

Call today.”

DREAM Act on Center Stage

HISTORY

Today is the day. This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. 10 years after being introduced, the DREAM Act will finally have its day in the spotlight and be voted on by both chambers of Congress. The perfect storm. Introducing in the left corner with the blue trunks Senator Harry Reid and Speaker Nancy Pelosi facing off against in the right corner, with the red trunks the GOP Congress and the American people.

Votes in relation to the DREAM Act are scheduled for Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the United States Senate, with as many as three of the votes occurring in the House (one on the substance of the bill and as many as two on procedure) and one procedural vote occurring in the Senate.

To move forward, Pelosi must get 218 votes (Not quite correct. Pelosi needs a majority of those voting. I saw the finally vote results. If I remember correctly, the final vote was 216 yes votes and 198 against. It passed in the House. As of last night when I went to bed, the Senate is voting for cloture today. We CAN and MUST stop this in the Senate! How many Representatives who lost in November spit in the face of the American people with a yes vote?—my addition) in the House and Reid must get 60 votes in the Senate.

Immigration action should start in the House around 7pm and look for the Senate to move at 4pm.

LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE

The stage is set for both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate to proceed on procedural votes today to advance the DREAM Act amnesty that would grant a pathway to citizenship for some 2.1 million young illegal immigrants under age 35. The DREAM Act (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors) is full of loop holes and injustices that include (1) no enforcement provisions (2) no end date or cap (3) no English language requirement (4) includes a pathway for repeat criminal offenders and (5) does not even require a High School diploma or education. Plus, the DREAM Act will cost the U.S. taxpayers an estimated $6.2 billion dollars per year and deficit spending on welfare programs could increase by at least another $5 billion or more by 2020 as a result of the amnesty measure. This is a broken piece of legislation at a fragile time in our nation’s history.

With an estimated 11-18 million illegal aliens currently residing in the U.S. today, the DREAM Act amnesty would legalize nearly 20% of these people.

REPUBLICAN STRONGHOLD

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) said on the Senate floor Monday that ‘Americans are willing to consider some form of regular status for those who have peacefully lived and worked here for an extended period of time—but only after the border is secure.’ The ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee remarked ‘This is because the passage of an amnesty bill such as the DREAM Act is an immediate reward for the illegal entry, and there is no serious plan to stop the illegal flow. Indeed, the legislation incentivizes it.’

If I counted correctly, of the 23 Democrats up for reelection, eleven are FIRST TERM Democrats and another 6 are SECOND TERM Democrats. This is a ripe field for the Republicans with work, effort, money, prayer, and good conservative candidates to pick up an even larger number of new seats than this year. Keep records of their votes against we the people and whether or not they actually support the United States Constitution as written. WE MUST keep the Democrats “FEET TO THE FIRE!”

We MUST continue the process of TAKING BACK THE NATION!!! The nation is at stake!!!
