Gabrielle Giffords and her murder attempt

From: Tea Party Nation

“The end of an era.

Posted by Judson Phillips on January 8, 2011 at 6:38pm in Tea Party Nation Forum

Today, in an act of terrorism, a nut tried to kill Congressman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ). Fortunately, contrary to earlier reports, she will live. The police have not released details yet, including whether she was the target, or US District Judge John Roll, who was killed in the attack or someone else.

The aftermath of this act will be felt for sometime to come. It is the end of perhaps two eras here in the United States.

In America, though we might have differences, there were always certain things we could agree on. Conservatives and liberals could discuss and debate issues. That era is gone and the aftermath of today’s shooting is the official obituary for political civility in this country. (I tend to disagree with this. First, it now seems that this was not as much a political statement as a “personal” vendetta against Representative Giffords herself as retribution for perceived wrongs against the alleged shooter. Second, there have been numerous acrimonious times in our history and, although bent, civility did not end. At least, civility did not end on a permit basis. End is too strong of a concept for the results from this action!—my addition)

Although there was no proof the shooter was involved in conservative politics or the Tea Party, the left went nuts. Immediately after the shooting, the left went after the Tea Party. The Daily Kos went on a rant. On the Hill.com, one of the comments in the story about the shooting was from someone called ‘AC.’ He said:

The Tucson Tea Party will be made to pay for the blood on their hands. An eye for an eye. You want a civil war, you got one. KILL Jesse Kelly for his role, then KILL Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Gleen Beck(sic). Whoever puts BULLETS in ther HEADS shall be a NATIONAL HERO.

On twitter, leftists were going after Sarah Palin in particular. Tweeters castigated Palin because during the election, she had put cross hairs on Giffords’ district (As well as other districts—my addition), which was closely fought. They were then upset that her Webmaster took the image down. At Tea Party Nation, we were on the receiving end of some of this vitriol from the left.

Someone named ‘Kathlovestennis’ tweeted: @teapartynation Your Hitmap, your hatred, your racism, your anti-semitism, your homophobia have created this hateful act. #repgiffords (Ignorance by some does not mean civility will end. We will always have people saying and writing ignorant things!—my addition)

Paul Krugman, who is generally an idiot, lived up to his reputation by trying to tie the Tea Party into an incident that has nothing to do with politics.

Traitor to America, Jane Fonda had to add her twitter to the list, blaming both Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck for the shooting, as well as the Tea Party. Why isn’t she in prison for what she did to American POW’s in Vietnam? (Because the left is forgiving of their own!—my addition)

The left has simply gone too far. There can be no civil discourse with people as crazy as those on the left are. What that says for the future of this country is tragic. (They didn’t become “crazy” because of this murderous act. One discourses as well as one can with people one fundamentally disagrees with. Both sides have their share of ignorant people!—my addition)

The second era that may have ended today is the era of easy access to our leaders. (I don’t think this will be permanently ended either. No one is immune from being attacked by people who are somewhat deranged. The incident, as I’ll cover hopefully in a later post, would indicate a much more serious problem if the attempt would have been achieved through a sniper shot—my addition.) America has had a tradition of easy and open access to our leaders. Indeed, Congressman Giffords was at a meeting she called ‘Congress on the corner’ when she was shot. With the exception of the Speaker of the House, neither Congressmen nor Senators have Secret Service protection. They will frequently come to events and meet the public with zero security. That has been the beauty of America. That also may have died today. (More precautions but it is the nature of the beast that people running for office must meet the people. When I ran for office, I would walk the district to gather my own petition signatures alone. Women tend to walk in, at least, a group of two. Could we be in harms way. Of course. But, the risk was minimal compared to its importance. I think that will not change. More precautions; but politicians will still go before the people. They can’t afford not to. We’ve already seen that some Congressmen would not hold town hall meetings because they did not want to be held accountable!—my addition)

Every Senator and Congressman is now reevaluating their personal security, as they all should. The easy contact Americans have enjoyed with their representatives may be a thing of the past. In the future, town hall meetings maybe held in secured locations, such as Federal buildings or over the Internet. Even the political events they attend may become subject to the same strict security we see when the President is speaking.

For today, we can say a prayer for those who lived through the shooting in Arizona, those who did not and their families and for America. Thanks to the hard left, America can now say goodbye to any type of political civility. (Again, I disagree—my addition.)

UPDATE: In a shocking development, people who knew the shooter are saying he was a ..... liberal.”

My CongressWOMAN voted against Nancy Pelosi! And is now DEAD to me! (Boy Blue aka Jared Loughner?) [From his own description of himself in one of his posts, it does not seem to be describing Jared Loughner. However, some on the left seem to easily turn on their own when they don’t exactly toe their concept of “right” and “wrong” and that is why I’m including this section of the comments made—my addition.]

My CongressWOMAN voted against Nancy Pelosi! And is now DEAD to me!
by BoyBlue Thu Jan 06, 2011 at 11:07:17 AM PST

I am from the Tucson area and live in Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords’ district. I worked like a dog for her elections when she was in the Arizona House, surrounded by rightwing nutcases. When Arizona re-districted in 2002, a seat opened up and she was right smack in the middle of it. So was I because I live in Oro Valley, Arizona, which is at the heart of that - then - new CD. I was one of several people to talk her into running and pledging complete loyalty and pledging to raise as much money as possible for her.

She ended up running for the first time against a fellow AZ House member, Randy Graf who was a rightwing whacko who advocated guns in bars and was the ‘Russell Pearce before Russell Pearce’ vis-a-vis border issues. With a LOT of hard work and plenty of money, Gabby won. Easier than thought, too. I never like to throw money in people’s faces, but i have given Gabrielle Giffords THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars in both good times and bad times for me financially.

* BoyBlue’s diary :: :: *

Fast forward to this election season. A weirdo a****** named Jesse Kelly who advocated ELIMINATING Social Security and was a tea bagger favorite got the GOP nom to run against her. I am gay and had been married and my spouse left me January 15, 2010. I shot myself in the mouth in a serious suicide attempt, because of that. Barely surviving, I spent two months in the hospital and still have some paralysis. I did receive a severance from my employer, as i had been laid off in December, 2009. That may have been part of the reason my spouse left me.

Anyway, after months of physical and mental rehab, I got back into the political scene and started working for Gabby once again. I raised over $100,000 for her and maxed her out myself out of my severance, even though i still don’t have work and could not qualify for state aid because of my severance.

She wins her re-election and told me she was still a supporter of Speaker Pelosi at her victory party. We talked about how Nancy Pelosi was a successful woman and accomplished oh so much in just four years as Speaker.

Today, just a little while ago, I saw on Andrea Mitchell Reports (out of the one eye in can still see out of) that Giffords voted AGAINST Nancy Pelosi as our Minority Leader.

Rhetorical question: I fought back from my condition and jumped in with both feet to help Gabrielle Giffords for THIS s***???

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is dead to me now. I won’t lift a finger, make one phone call, nor will i EVER vote for her in the future. And why did she do this? Giffords never told me she was conservative Democrat. And her voting record is okay. XXXX. (Expletive deleted by me—my addition.)

The congresswoman was a conservative Democrat, a blue dog.
And just what side is benefitting from this insane act of violence?
The left.

Reply by Judson Phillips 7 hours ago

She was not a conservative, but I agree with you. The left benefits from this.

“Eventually the Campus police (Pima Community College—my addition) visited

Loughner’s house and told him that until he sees a psychiatrist and it is determined that he is not a threat to himself and others, he cannot return to school. If they had seen the shooters back yard at the time of their visit, the campus police would have seen a very creepy site confirming their demand for a psychiatric evaluation. Yesterday, investigators found an alter and shrine in Loughner’s backyard. According to the NY Daily News

‘A sinister shrine reveals a chilling occult dimension in the mind of the deranged gunman accused of shooting a member of Congress and 19 others.

Hidden within a camouflage tent behind Jared Lee Loughner’s home sits an alarming altar with a skull sitting atop a pot filled with shriveled oranges.

A row of ceremonial candles and a bag of potting soil lay nearby, photos reveal.

Experts on Sunday said the elements are featured in the ceremonies of a number of occult groups.’”

“In Gabrielle Giffords shooting, many on left quick to lay blame
Commentators on the Gabrielle Giffords shooting cite ‘tea party’ rhetoric and inflammatory speech, sparking a fierce online debate.

By Matea Gold, Washington Bureau
January 8, 2011, 8:29 p.m.

Reporting from Washington—Law enforcement officials had only begun their examination of a Tucson supermarket scene where Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 17 others were shot Saturday when many on the political left settled on a culprit: overheated political rhetoric.

Even before the name of the shooter was known, a fierce debate spilled out across blogs and social media, with liberal commentators blaming the attack on the violent imagery evoked by some "tea party" candidates and conservatives during the recent midterm elections.” (Which, of course, is utter nonsense—my addition.)

“‘You cannot flippantly talk about ‘reloading’ and putting people on your TARGET list and not expect some nut to take you literally,’ read one typical comment posted to Palin’s Facebook page Saturday. ‘This is on you partially whether you like it or not.’

‘Leave it to the liberals to expect one person to be held accountable for the individual actions of every person who hears them,’ shot back another. ‘It’s representative of the liberal nanny state dream come true!’”

“‘I’ve been reading the instant reaction on Twitter and on the Web and I’ve been trying to filter out the urge to vent my rage at those who immediately shoe-horned these awful crimes into their ideological prism,’ Jonah Goldberg wrote on the website of the National Review. ‘There have been some truly disgusting displays of opportunism out there.’” (Never let a crisis go to waste concept of thinking—my addition.)

“The attack in Tucson punctuated what has been a particularly brutish season in American politics, especially the uproar over the passage of the healthcare overhaul last year.

Last March, after Giffords voted for the bill, the glass door of her Tucson congressional office was smashed in the middle of the night.” (Of course, no culprit has been found so they don’t know who is responsible. Vandalism occurs all the time. This is not unusually. Some of these people ought to learn our history and the history of mankind. Man is SINFUL!—my addition)

“Thomas Hollihan, who teaches classes on political rhetoric at USC, said people on the political fringe ‘get affected by a kind of toxic political culture that makes them angry and paranoid that their government is being taken away.’

But he cautioned against coming to any conclusions about the motivations of the shooter in Tucson. ‘People who commit crimes like this are often just unhinged,’ he said.

Indeed, the information that trickled out Saturday about the man arrested for the shooting, 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, did not suggest he had a clear political motivation.

Still, Saturday’s shooting set off an eruption of anger at the tea party, Arizona’s permissive gun laws and conservative media pundits.

‘There’s an aura of hate, and elected politicians feed it; certain people on Fox News feed it,’ Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr., a Democrat from New Jersey, told the Record newspaper in Bergen. (Did this guy forget all the hatred spewed at George W. Bush by the left? A movie was even made on assassinating the President! Was that acceptable? Who protested that vitriol and that movie?—my addition)

Former Democratic Sen. Gary Hart said inflammatory speech—such as references to political opponents as ‘enemies’ that need to be ‘eliminated’—leads to the kind of violence that occurred in Tucson. (Does he have ANY evidence to support that claim?—my addition)

‘We all know that there are unstable and potentially dangerous people among us,’ he wrote on the Huffington Post. ‘To repeatedly appeal to their basest instincts is to invite and welcome their predictable violence.’ (How does he even know that this alleged murderer listen to, heard, or read any of this so-called inflammatory rhetoric?—my addition)

When asked by the New York Post whether his daughter had any enemies, Giffords’ father, through tears, responded: ‘Yeah, the whole tea party.’ (What nonsense!—my addition)

By Saturday evening, tea party leaders had taken pains to distance themselves from the attack. (Because they weren’t involved!!!—my addition)

‘Spirited debate is desirable in our country, but it only should be the clash of ideas,’ Amy Kremer, chairwoman of the Sacramento-based Tea Party Express, said in a statement. ‘An attack on anyone for political purposes, if that was a factor in this shooting, is an attack on the democratic process. We join with everyone in vociferously condemning it.’”

The map on Palin’s website had crosshairs over this congresswoman’s district. (So WHAT! Is that a cause and effect? Did the alleged shooter even see the website? What nonsense!—my addition) She pulled it shortly after the shooting. (That was thoughtful of her—my addition.) The connection is crystal clear. (Really!—my addition) Republicans are such lock-step zombies (Who said the alleged shooter was a Republican?—my addition) they will defend anything a tea party person says or does (Who said the alleged shooter was a Tea Party person?—my addition), no matter what. (Does that mean that all Muslims are responsible for the actions of the Muslims who flew planes into our buildings?—my addition) The diversion tactics here by some to cite other websites and give Palin a free pass for advocating gun violence (When did Sarah Palin advocate gun violence?—my addition) reek of sad desperation and denial on the Right. Take responsibility for your open-carry, wave-a-gun-toward-the-Capitol rhetoric (What in the world does that even mean?—my addition), Republicans. (Who is responsible for this action? The person who committed the act!—my addition)

Let’s see, the lefties claim ‘overheated political rhetoric’ is the ‘culprit.’ LAT (Los Angles Times—my addition) , being a willing accomplice, then quotes only examples of conservative overheating. But what about this:

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/06/14/obama-if-they-bring-a-knife-to-the-fight-we-bring-a-gun/

Yes, there it is, Barak Obama on Friday, June 13, 2008 saying that if ‘they [Republicans] bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun‘!!!

Knife??? Fight??? Gun??? Do you see a little bit of overheating there? What is the difference between that and Sarah Palin's crosshairs? Or how about the Daily Kos in a graphic advertisement putting a bull’s eye on Gabriel Giffords when they attacked her because she is a self-professed Blue Dog?

The Left is the home of hypocrisy. Continue in this vein and even leftist voters will be disgusted with you. When Conservatives capture two thirds of the government, you will have deserved to lose.

Opticon180 at 12:54 AM January 10, 2011

For those who are making a big deal about some Sarah Palin website scrubbing some supposedly ‘incriminating’ maps from their web pages, here’s something that can be just as easily classified as ‘incendiary/incriminating’ against Congresswoman Giffords that was also SCRUBBED, this one from a blog by a FORMER Giffords supporter at the Daily Kos written just 2 DAYS before the massacre that targeted her:

‘My CongressWOMAN voted against Nancy Pelosi! And is now DEAD to me!

To say this above LIBERAL blogger is somehow ‘responsible’ for the violent rampage by a raving LUNATIC named Jared Loughner is just as RIDICULOUS as the laughable claim that Palin is responsible.

Loughner is a raving LUNATIC with no political discernment or coherent political leanings ... get over it.”

From: http://www.politicsdaily.com/2011/01/08/gabby-giffords-a-moderate-voice-in-extreme-times/?icid=sphere_tribune_latimes_inline

“Gabby Giffords: A Moderate Voice in Extreme Times (It amazes me how libertines define moderate. Gabrielle Giffords supports the MURDER of unborn babies. Is that moderate? Gabrielle Giffords supports immoral behavior as a civil “right.” Is that moderate? Gabrielle Giffords supports spending the nation into oblivion. Is that moderate?—my addition)

Suddenly, horribly, Gabby Giffords, who had fought a vicious Republican opponent [A vicious Republican opponent? Isn’t that inflammatory? Where’s the evidence?—my addition] to scratch a win in her 8th district (it took days to make the vote official), became a national figure, a symbol perhaps of the danger of these volatile times.

But then, Gabby Giffords is not your standard anything. She’s a moderate who supported Obama’s health care bill, his stimulus package, the 2008 TARP measure to rescue the banks and other institutions, and a liberal energy bill. More controversially, she is strongly pro-choice and supports stem-cell research, but she also defends her ownership of guns and her support for gun rights.” (Wow! Supporting the 2nd Amendment must balance out all the leftist votes!—my addition)

“The heated debate over the state’s harsh anti-illegal immigration law, (Who says the law is harsh? This author? Shows her political stance on issues! The law is based on federal law!—my addition) signed last May, involved Giffords right where she lived. While her Tucson district is 70 percent white, a sizable 20 percent of the population is Hispanic. The controversial anti-illegal immigration law ignited passions on both sides, and during the campaign last year she was attacked by conservatives who saw her as soft on illegal immigrants.” (She is!!!—my addition)

I’m praying for Gabrielle Giffords, her family, and for her complete recovery. I am also praying that she and the shooter repent and turn to GOD, JESUS, the HOLY SPIRIT (the three in one GOD of the universe) the only SAVIOR for her personally, for the shooter personally, for me personally, for each of us personally.
