The relentless war by the left on Christians and biblical values has reached a new and more frightening phase with the announcements by Democrat mayors and city officials across the country that they are ‘banning’ fast food restaurant Chick-fil-A from their cities because company President Dan Cathy said unapologetically that he is in ‘support of the traditional family.’

Make no mistake about it; this is much bigger than Dan Cathy and Chick-fil-A.

Far from being champions of the constitutionally protected freedoms of speech and religion—and the ‘tolerance’ prized by liberals—the Democratic Party has now, once and for all, dropped all pretence of respecting the values held by tens of millions of American Christians and has instead launched a concerted attack to undermine those values in favor of the radical homosexual agenda.

This began, not with the media-generated controversy over Dan Cathy’s witness for the biblical definition of marriage, but when President Barack Obama announced that his position on same-sex marriage had ‘evolved’ from one of opposition to one of acceptance.

The acceptance Obama announced was quickly followed by active advocacy in favor of same-sex marriage by Democratic National Committee Chairman Deborah Wasserman Shultz, who announced the Democrats would have a plank in their national platform favoring same-sex marriage.

Acceptance and advocacy have now, as they always do in the liberal mind, quickly moved to coercion and punishment for those who disagree with them.

Thus, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino felt free to tell The Boston Herald that, ‘it will be very difficult’ for Chick-fil-A to obtain licenses for a restaurant in Boston because the management holds Christian religious views.

Chicago Alderman Proco ‘Joe’ Moreno quickly announced that he intends to block the chain from opening its second Chicago location because Chick-fil-A’s management witnessed for the biblical definition of marriage, saying, ‘I will now be denying Chick-fil-A’s permit to open a restaurant in the First Ward.’

And President Obama’s former Chief of Staff, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, quickly chimed-in to support the idea that the local Chick-fil-A franchisee should be punished because the company president—in far-away Atlanta—is openly Christian and applies ‘biblically-based principles’ to its business management.

In the San Francisco suburb of Mountain View, California, specious zoning complaints have temporarily blocked a new Chick-fil-A from opening there as well.

It doesn’t matter that Chick-Fil-A has not turned away a single customer because he or she was a homosexual. It doesn’t matter that Chick-Fil-A has not discriminated in any way against either employees or customers. Democrats want to punish the company, its management and employees because they would not stay silent on the issue of same-sex marriage.

The goal of Democrats in the controversy over Dan Cathy’s remarks and Chick-fil-A’s company policies is not to convince a majority of Americans that same-sex marriage is the kind, fair or ‘tolerant’ position to hold—or even that it is the constitutionally correct policy.

The goal of Democrats is to threaten, bully, coerce and punish millions of Americans into abandoning their Christian beliefs in favor of a soulless secularism with government at its center.

To escape a place where the government told you that to succeed you must reject Christian values or that you must think a certain way is why millions fled to America and the New World.

If Democrats can punish and coerce Dan Cathy and Chick-fil-A into submission on same-sex marriage, where will the attacks on Christians and biblical values end? It is time for Christians, and others who hold freedom of conscience sacred, to recognize that we must draw the line, make our stand and fight here on this issue because, unlike our ancestors, we have no New World to which we can flee.

Christianity has been under attack by our government and our federal courts for a very long time. From attempting to remove GOD from the public arena, to promoting the MURDER of unborn babies, to the support of the immoral, perverted homosexual agenda, to the Unconstitutional concept of a separate of church and State codified into the First Amendment. “Chick-fil-A Mess Confirms Anti-Christian Bigotry

An ugly cultural truth has been confirmed through the Chick-fil-A mess. Yes, some glimmers of light momentarily pierced the darkness as we saw most of the country’s liberal columnists and pundits condemn Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Chicago Alderman Joe Moreno, and now Philadelphia Councilman Jim Kenney for their anti-liberty pontifications.

I say ‘glimmers’ of light because these same pundits also feverishly assured the public that while they defend the First Amendment, they condemn Dan Cathy’s views, lest anyone think they’re ignorant, provincial, un-evolved, un-hip, hateful chuckleheads.

I say ‘momentarily’ because I have no confidence that a decade from now our liberal pundits and columnists will be such vociferous defenders of speech rights and religious liberty when it comes to homosexuality. We need only look at Canada to see our future.

Religious discrimination directed at any religion is wrong, offensive, and scary, but what Americans should have learned through recent events is that in America, there’s really only one faith tradition against which our cultural elites pride themselves in discriminating: theologically orthodox Christianity. (Many also rather enjoy mocking orthodox Christians).

A number of stories have emerged that reveal that Menino and Emanuel are far more generous to and tolerant of those who hold the same marriage views as Dan Cathy but follow religious traditions that aren’t as politically easy to persecute.

Boston radio host Michael Graham explains that ‘Mayor Menino ‘sold’ $2 million worth of city property to the [Islamic Society of Boston’s mosque] for $175,000, despite their well-documented links to Muslim extremism. The mosque teaches a form of Islam that condemns homosexuals to death.’

Rahm Emanuel proclaimed ‘‘Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago values. They’re not respectful of our residents, our neighbors and our family members. And if you’re gonna be part of the Chicago community, you should reflect Chicago values.’’ That strikes many as a peculiar comment in light of the fact that until a few months ago the president whom Emanuel served opposed same-sex marriage and said so explicitly during his first presidential campaign.

It’s also peculiar because Emanuel apparently feels no moral queasiness about the Nation of Islam reopening its restaurant Salaam in Chicago even though Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan said this about same-sex marriage:

Sin is sin…. [Obama’s] the first president that sanctioned what the Scriptures forbid. Now why is it all you politicians take your oath of office on the Bible? If the Book is no good, what the XXXX (Expletive deleted by me—my addition) are you using it for?

Philadelphia Councilman Kenney is a Jimmy-come-lately to the freedom fray and apparently hasn’t noticed that even most ‘progressives’ are troubled by the implications of government efforts to penalize someone for exercising his First Amendment rights. In his effort to promote tolerance in ‘the city of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection,’ Kenney wrote this to Dan Cathy (you can’t make this stuff up): ‘So please—take a hike and take your intolerance with you (The MOST intolerant people in this nation are those who scream “tolerance!”—my addition).’

The notion that the Constitution guarantees the right of men to marry men and women to marry women is sufficiently bizarre to cause some serious grave-turning among our Founding Fathers (NOT only bizarre! It is absolutely WRONG!!!—my addition). So too would be the notion that opposing ‘same-sex marriage’ could get you in a financial or legal sticky-wicket. This is not progress. Our collective cultural understanding of church-state relations, marriage, and sexuality is devolving from sense to pernicious non-sense.

Please Christians, get educated and speak up boldly (My use of red—my addition) while you’ve got the chance. If not for yourselves, do it for your children and grandchildren.”
