Mocking GOD

Yesterday, I wrote a post concerning the upcoming Senate election.  I ended the post with this quote from the Bible.  “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked.  A man reaps what he sows.  The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.  Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6: 7-9)

The New Testament does not list a series of sins that covers all sins that man can commit.  It does not say: “These acts you must not commit; all other acts are approved by GOD.”  However, the Bible does identify some activities as sinful.  Paul in the above quoted verses refers to the sinful nature of man and declares that those who act to please the sinful nature of man will reap destruction.  What are some of the actions that constitute that sinful nature?

A few verses before the above quoted verses he lists some actions that constitute the sinful nature of man.  “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like.  I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5: 19-21)

Note the following according to Paul who is either correct in his assertions or is wrong:

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: others can easily understand that these actions are wrong and sinful.

The first act of the sinful nature listed is sexual immorality which is followed by impurity and debauchery.

Murder is not listed as an act of the sinful nature: Does that mean that murder is not an act of the sinful nature?  NO!!!  It just means that Paul chose for whatever reason not to list it as one of the acts of the sinful nature.  He left out a large number of acts of the sinful nature.

Those individuals who live a life indulging the sinful nature of man “will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Paul also wrote in Romans Chapter 1, verses 24 through 27: “Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.  They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised.  Amen.

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts.  Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.  In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another.  Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

Paul is either correct with this analysis or he is wrong.

Paul proclaims that sexual impurity is a sinful desire of the heart.

Sexual impurity degrades their bodies—all parties involved in that sexual impurity.

In these verses, he describes homosexual behavior—“men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another.  Men committed indecent acts with other men….”

He describes this homosexual behavior as indecent.

He declares that women did the same thing: “women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.”

   Homosexual behavior is a perversion.

Eventually, men and women will receive their due penalty for the perversion of homosexual behavior.

Paul, who claimed throughout his writings to be inspired by GOD, is either wrong in condemning homosexual behavior or he is correct.  It can not be both.  It must be one or the other.

“Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.  And that is what some of you were.  (Man will be forgiven for past sins if repentance occurs and the wicked actions end—my addition.)  But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6: 9-11)

[Examine also Matthew 15: 10-20, Ephesians 5: 3-7, 1 Thessalonians 4: 3-8, and Revelation 21: 6-8 among other New Testament passages condemning sexual immorality including homosexual behavior.]

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked.  A man reaps what he sows.  The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.  Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6: 7-9)

Like it or not, agree with it or not, believe it or not; it is an either/or situation.  Follow the sinful nature as advocated by man and the result will be destruction.  Follow the SPIRIT of GOD as demanded by GOD and the result will be eternal life.  We can not have it both ways.  GOD IS NOT MOCKED!!!!!!!
