Then, I plan to answer the response about Iraq. I am sorry for the change in plans. Plans, in reality, often are altered for one reason or another. “The best laid plans … often go astray.” Thank you for your understanding and patience.
How many unborn toddlers were murdered today because of the humanistic, paganish, barbaric decisions of the United States Supreme Court?

On Thursday, May 1, 2008, page A8; the following stories were above the fold on the first page of the business section of the Peoria Journal Star. At the top of the page starting on the left was the headline “Fed cuts rates another quarter-point,” and to the right was the “Market in Review.” The story below the “Fed cuts” which began above the fold and ended below the fold was the “Earnings Update.” The major headline for the “Earnings Update” was “GM falls to $3.3 billion 1Q loss.” To the right of the “Earnings Update” was the “Daily Briefing.” The lead story which started above the fold and finished below the fold was “Wall Street dips lower on Fed decision.” (Remember that the tendency is that more stories are read above the fold than below the fold.) The second and last story in “Daily Briefing” which was completely below the fold had this headline “Economy grows 0.6 percent in the first quarter.”
The entire story as given in the Peoria Journal Star reads as follows: “Washington, D.C.—The bruised economy limped through the first quarter, growing at just a 0.6 percent pace as housing and credit problems forced people and businesses alike to hunker down.
The country’s economic growth during January through March was the same as in the final three months of last year, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday. The statistic did not meet what economists consider a definition of a recession—which is a contraction of the economy. (Note the incomplete definition for a recession. The writer would have you believe that if the quarter growth number was negative then we would be in a recession. NOT TRUE!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE!!! NOT TRUE!!! The recognized definition of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth—that is, six months of negative growth over two consecutive quarters. Since 2001, with 9/11 occurring, the United States has not had one single quarter of negative growth!!!—my addition) This means that although the economy is stuck in a rut, it is still managing to grow, even if slightly.
Many analysts were predicting the gross domestic product would weaken a bit more—to a pace of just 0.5 percent—in the first quarter. Earlier this year, some thought the economy would actually lurch into reverse during the opening quarter.
Journal Star news services”
Note the choice of words in this three paragraph subtle attack on the economy even as the economy continues to grow. Starting with the first paragraph:
1) bruised economy
2) limped through
3) growing at just
4) housing and credit problems forced
5) hunker down
Paragraph two:
1) did not meet
2) what economists consider
3) although the economy is stuck
4) in a rut
5) managing to grow
6) even if slightly
Paragraph three:
1) Many economists were predicting (Many incorrect economists were saying the United States was already in a recession!!! Economists aren’t much better at predictions than is the “Al Gore gang” in predicting what will occur fifty years from now.)
2) would weaken a bit more
3) some thought
4) would actually lurch
5) into reverse
What is wrong with this report? The whole three paragraphs demonstrate the continued negativism of the national news media and some economists. The economy has been GROWING for all of the 2000’s. By the way, a .6 growth in the United States economy in actual growth of goods and services is probably larger that the actual growth (not percentage growth) of any other economy in the world—that’s how large the U.S. economy is.
This is a true statement that seems to be lost on the news media and many economists. NO PERSON can truthfully say that the United State is in a recession UNTIL after the fact. Only when we statistically know that the economy HAS HAD two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth do we actually know that the economy is in a recession. THAT IS THE UNDENIABLE TRUTH!!! That is the truth by definition.
When are the people in this country going to wake up and realize that the news media is trying to influence the truth and what we believe to be true?
CNN Radio News on 3/20/08 at 5 p.m. aired the following statement—“spend way out of current recession.” What current recession??? As of March 20, 2008, the United States had not had one quarter since 2001 of negative economic growth let along two consecutive quarters. And yet, the NEWS program was talking about the “current recession.” What utter LIES!!! It is a lie or the people who produce such nonsense just don’t know what they are talking about. Which do you think it is?
Other news accounts or written news stories have talked about a recession being with us since late last year. Do they EVER retract their reports? Do they expect us to forget about the nonsense they have produced?
Others news reports have said such things as “it feels like a recession,” “many of the States are experiencing a recession,” and “the latest public opinion poll shows that the people believe we are in a recession.” Besides the fact that believing something to be true does not make it true, what do you expect? Most people don’t have a great mastery of economics. When I was in my first economics class in college, our professor told us that if we learned the material presented (and I DID), we would know more economics that 95% of the public. When the national news media constantly bombards the public with negative reports claiming the recession is HERE, why wouldn’t many unsuspecting people parrot the same nonsense in a public opinion poll? If economists don’t know, and they don’t; how is the public suppose to know if we are in a recession or not? Why are they even being asked?
So far, this is true. There IS NO recession in 2008 just as there was NO recession in 2001.
