Republican House of Representatives victories and losses on a selective basis

The vote information is from http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/election-results-2010/

Here is the list of candidates supported by Operation Black Storm—a conservative Tea Party type group that supported conservative black candidates—and their election results:

Candidates who won:

01) Tim Scott, South Carolina’s First District: won with 65% of the vote.

02) Allen West, Florida’s Twenty-second District: won with 54% of the vote.

Candidates who lost:

01) Don Chamberlain, Alabama’s Seventh District: lost
02) Star Parker, California’s Thirty-Seventh District.: lost
03) Ryan Frazier, Colorado’s Seventh District: lost
04) Isaac Hayes, Illinois’ Second District: lost
05) Dr. Marvin Scott, Indiana’s Seventh District: lost
06) Robert Broadus, Maryland’s Fourth District: lost
07) Charles Loller, Maryland’s Fifth District: lost
08) Michel Faulkner, New York’s Fifteenth District: lost
09) Bill Randall, North Carolina’s Thirteenth District: lost
10) Charlotte Bergmann, Tennessee’s Ninth District: lost
11) Pastor Stephen Broden, Texas’ Thirtieth District: lost
12) Chuck Smith, Virginia’s Third District: lost

So, who’s racist? The conservative Tea Party type black candidates were before the voters and the voters did not support these Black candidates. Where’s the outrage from the mainstream mass media?

OK, I’m being sarcastic. You can’t tell racism by these results. But, that’s the point. It’s easy to scream “racism!” That doesn’t make it true!

Other conservative House of Representative candidates that I covered in my postings and the election results:

Conservatives who won their elections:

1) Daniel Webster vs. Alan Grayson (the Democratic incumbent) in Florida Congressional District 8. Alan Grayson ran the “Taliban Dan” commercial comparing Christianity or, at least, Dan Webster’s views based on his being a Christian to the Taliban. Daniel Webster DEFEATED the incumbent with 56% of the vote. (October 7, 2010 post)

2) Marlin Stutzman vs. Thomas Hayhurst—Indiana Congressional District 3: No incumbent in this race. Marlin Stutzman won with 63% of the vote. Congratulations Marlin! (October 21, 2010 post)

3) Joe Heck vs. Dina Titus—Nevada Congressional District 3: Incumbent Democrat Dina Titus was DEFEATED by Republican Joe Heck who won with 48% of the vote. (October 23, 2010 post)

4) Dr. Scott DesJarlais vs. Lincoln Davis—Tennessee Congressional District 4: Incumbent Democrat Lincoln Davis was DEFEATED by Republican Dr. Scott DesJarlais who won with 57% of the vote. (October 22, 2010 post)

5) Scott Rigell vs. Glenn Nye—Virginia’s Congressional District 2: Incumbent Democrat Glenn Nye was DEFEATED by Republican Scott Rigell who won with 53% of the vote. (October 28, 2010 post)

Conservatives who lost their elections. All of the conservative candidates were running against incumbents:

01) Sean Bielat v. Barney Frank—Massachusetts 4th Congressional District: Incumbent Barney Frank won reelection with 54% of the vote. (October 19, 2010 post)

02) Van Tran vs. Loretta Sanchez—California Congressional District 47: Incumbent Loretta Sanchez won reelection with 51% of the vote. (October 23, 2010 post)

03) Lynne Torgerson vs. Keith Ellison—Minnesota Congressional District 5: Incumbent Keith Ellison won reelection with 68% of the vote. (October 26, 2010 post)

04) Art Robinson vs. Peter DeFazio—Oregon’s Congressional District 4: Incumbent Democrat Peter DeFazio won reelection with 54% of the vote. (October 27, 2010 post)

05) Teresa Collett vs. Betty McCollum—Minnesota’s Congressional District 4: Incumbent Democrat Betty McCollum won reelection with 59% of the vote. (October 27, 2010 post)

06) B.J. Lawson vs. David Price—North Carolina Congressional District 4: Incumbent Democrat David Price won reelection with 57% of the vote. (October 28, 2010 post)

Arizona’s Congressional races won by Republicans even with Democratic incumbents:

1) District 1—Paul Gosar vs. Ann Kirkpatrick: Incumbent Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick was DEFEATED by Republican Paul Gosar who won with 50% of the vote. Ann Kirkpatrick received 44% of the vote and the Libertarian candidate 6% of the vote. (October 23, 2010 post)

2) District 5—David Schweikert vs. Harry Mitchell: Incumbent Democrat Harry Mitchell was DEFEATED by Republican David Schweikert who won with 53% of the vote. Harry Mitchell received 42% of the vote and the Libertarian candidate 5% of the vote. (October 23, 2010 post)

Arizona’s Congressional races lost by Republicans with Democratic incumbents:

1) District 4—Janet Contreras vs. Ed Pastor: Incumbent Ed Pastor won with 65% of the vote. (October 23, 2010 post)

2) District 7—Ruth McClung vs. Ed Pastor: Incumbent Raul Grijalva won with 49% of the vote. Republican challenger Ruth McClung received 46% of the vote, an Independent candidate received 3% of the vote, and a Libertarian candidate received 3% of the vote. The two addition candidates may have saved this Democratic seat. (October 23, 2010 post)

3) District 8—Jesse Kelly vs. Gabrielle Giffords: Incumbent Gabrielle Giffords seems to have won with 49% of the vote. Republican challenger Jesse Kelly received 48% of the vote and the Libertarian candidate received 4% of the vote. I know that totals 101%. The difference is because of rounding. The actual vote difference is 2447 votes between Democrat and Republican candidate. The Washington Post has not yet identified Gabrielle Giffords as the official winner. The libertarian candidate who received over 9,000 votes may have saved this Democratic seat. (October 23, 2010 post)

Districts 2, 3, and 6 which had incumbent Republicans running for reelection were all won by the incumbent. (October 23, 2010 post)

If the Giffords election holds true, the Republicans now have five seats to the Democrats 3. Before the election, it was just the reverse. Five Democratic seats and three Republican seats.

According to the Washington Post after the election, there are now 240 Republicans, 184 Democrats and 11 undecided races. The Republicans picked up approximately 60 seats in this election!
