“Everywhere I go, people tell me they want to take their country back. They’re tired of the spending, bailouts, and debt coming out of Washington and they want someone in Congress to stand up for the principles of freedom.

I started the Senate Conservatives Fund as a way to fight back against the reckless policies that are destroying our nation. I started SCF because the only way to save our country is to elect principled leaders to Congress who have the courage to stand up to the big spenders in both political parties.

Over the past year, we have endorsed a number of outstanding candidates. Each one of these leaders demonstrated two things: first, an unwavering commitment to conservative principles, and second, strong grassroots support from the voters who know them best.

In race after race, we ignored the advice of the Washington establishment and backed the candidates supported by the American people. We gave these leaders our endorsement, we raised money for their campaigns, and we made the investments needed to push them over the top.

This has not been an easy task. The elites in Washington have attacked us every step of the way. They said our candidates were too conservative to win as if voters dislike principled leadership. And they raised hundreds of thousands of dollars from special interests to stop our insurgent candidates.

We overcame the obstacles because of your generous support and we did what many believed was impossible.

01) In Pennsylvania, conservative Pat Toomey became so strong that Arlen Specter had to leave the party and was eventually defeated in the Democratic primary. Now Toomey leads in the polls against liberal Rep. Joe Sestak (D).

02) In Florida, conservative Marco Rubio also became so strong that Charlie Crist had to leave the party and will be defeated once and for all in November. In fact, Rubio now leads the field by a large margin.

03) In Kentucky, conservative Rand Paul defeated a good ol’ boy Republican who had the support of the top political brass in Kentucky and the nation. Now Dr. Paul leads Jack Conway (D) in every public poll despite being viciously attacked by the liberal media.

04) In Utah, conservative Mike Lee eliminated an 18-year, big-spending Republican at the GOP state nominating convention and went on to win the primary. Now, Lee leads his Democratic rival by over 20 percentage points.

05) In Nevada, conservative Sharron Angle defeated a field of candidates who had more money and name recognition for the chance to face Harry Reid. Despite criticism from the Washington establishment, Angle remains in a virtual tie with Reid.

06) In Colorado, conservative Ken Buck came out of nowhere to defeat his Washington-picked opponent in the Republican primary this week. Now Buck leads Michael Bennet, President Obama’s hand-picked, appointed Senator, by 8 percentage points.

07) In Washington, conservative Dino Rossi secured his place on the ballot in August, allowing him to face off against liberal Senator Patty Murray (D) in November. Recent polls show Rossi gaining and now within the margin of error.

08) In Wisconsin, Ron Johnson locked up his primary in September and now faces liberal Senator Russ Feingold (D). Johnson is surging so quickly in the polls that one of the nation’s top political handicappers recently move the race to ‘Lean Republican.’

09) In Alaska, Joe Miller overcame a 30-point deficit in the polls to defeat liberal Senator Lisa Murkowski in the Republican primary. But now Murkowski is pulling an Arlen Specter and is running a write-in campaign against Joe Miller.

10) In Delaware, Christine O’Donnell weathered relentless attacks from the Washington establishment and defeated liberal Congressman Mike Castle in the Republican primary. Now she trails liberal Chris Coons in the polls, but the race isn’t over yet.

Working together, we’ve helped 10 of the nation’s top conservatives get into position to win these important Senate seats. Now we need to finish what we started and help them win in November.

These candidates deserve our support. Rather than electing Republicans In Name Only (RINOs), these leaders are true conservatives who will fight for the principles of freedom. They will fight to...

1) Balance the Budget—Congress must be forced to cut spending. SCF candidates will support a constitutional amendment to balance the federal budget without raising taxes.

2) Repeal ObamaCare—President Obama’s health care takeover is set to destroy American medicine and bankrupt our country. SCF candidates will support legislation to repeal it.

3) Stop Government Bailouts—Bailouts force taxpayers to reward failure and punish success. SCF candidates will stop bailouts altogether and force corporations to compete.

4) Ban Earmarks—Congressional earmarks are a gateway drug to higher spending. SCF candidates will ban earmarks and break Washington’s addiction to pork.

5) Secure the Borders—The federal government has failed to enforce our nation’s immigration laws. SCF candidates will seal the borders and oppose all forms of amnesty.

6) Defend the 2nd Amendment—The 2nd Amendment protects our ability to keep and bear arms. SCF candidates will oppose all efforts to eliminate or restrict this right.

7) Protect Human Life—Human life is precious and it must be protected. SCF candidates will stop all taxpayer funding for abortion.

8) Establish Term Limits—Our country is being destroyed by career politicians. SCF candidates will support a constitutional amendment establishing congressional term limits.

[If you have read my posts for awhile, you know that I don’t support term limits. We already have a mechanism to limit terms of elected officials—it’s called elections. I don’t want good leaders removed from office just because they have served a certain length of time. If they have become a negative, then defeat them at the polls. It’s the people’s responsibility—we, the people—not some arbitrary mechanism because we, the people are too irresponsible to do our duty in a Republic. Unless the voters do their homework, the new faces will be just as bad as the old faces. IT IS the RESPONSIBILITY of the PEOPLE at the BALLOT BOX!!!

In place of number (8), I would add the following:

8) A Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as between one man and one woman only.

9) A pledge to only vote for federal court nominees who are strict constructionists who will support and abide by the Constitution of the United States as written and amended and not as interpreted by judges and Justices rewriting the Constitution by interpretation and by making law—my addition.]

The mainstream media and the elites in Washington say our candidates aren’t as electable as unprincipled moderates. They have tried to marginalize them by calling their support for the Constitution ‘extreme’ and by constantly portraying them as different from the usual politician. Well, compared to the political class in Washington, they are different ... and that’s exactly what this country needs!

Americans believe what’s truly ‘extreme’ is a $13 trillion debt, reckless spending, and a lack of commitment to the Constitution. And voters are enthusiastically supporting these conservative candidates because they are authentic leaders with the common sense and faith in our founding principles that is lacking in Washington.

I am just as confident our candidates can win in November as I was that they could win their primaries. Conservative principles transcend political labels and they’re attractive to a majority of Americans. It’s not about right vs. left, it’s about up vs. down and about surviving as a nation vs. losing our greatness.

The Washington establishment says our candidates are not electable, but I know we can win these races and take America back if we’re willing to do the hard work that’s required.

There are just a few weeks left before the November elections. We need your help right now if we are going to secure conservative victories in Colorado, Nevada, Alaska, and Delaware. Please make a contribution today to the Senate Conservatives Fund. The membership of the Senate Conservatives Fund is strong but in order to win in November it needs to become much stronger. Please forward this email to anyone who might be willing to support our cause.

Together, we’re going to prove the naysayers wrong, we’re going to buck the system, and we’re going to take our country back.

Respectfully,

Jim DeMint
United States Senator
Chairman, Senate Conservatives Fund”
