Gambling, the Senate, and the lame duck Congress

On my December 8, 2010 post, I wrote about four proposals that needed to be stopped in the lame duck session. These four were:

1) DREAM Act/ NIGHTMARE Act
2) Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell
3) MURDER in the military
4) Unions for control & profit

So far they have been.

On my December 11, 2010 post, I wrote that the tax deal between the President and Republican Congressional leaders should be stopped primarily because it has been modified to include Christmas time give-aways that will increase the already bloated national debt. I have repeatedly said, mainly in relation to the State of Illinois, that to stop spendthrift spending one MUST stop spending!!! Duh!!! The Cloture Vote in the Senate in relation to the tax cuts was successful Monday night but indications are that the Democrats in the House of Representatives want to add even more goodies and want to penalize people more by modifying the new estate tax provisions. We need to concentrate in the House to stop this spendthrift bill.

However, there is now a new lame duck threat that we need to react to immediately and stop. Actually it has been talked about before and has been misused by the States for a number of years—gambling as a revenue source, specifically in relation to the federal government—online gambling. If you read my blog regularly, you know that I characterize government sponsored gambling as STATE SANCTIONED STEALING and it is!!!

It seems there may be an attempt during this lame duck session to provide this sanctioned stealing. Let’s stop it. The federal government does NOT need more money!!! The federal government needs to STOP spending money it does NOT have and SHOULD NOT have!!!

I received the following e-mail yesterday (December 13th) from American Grassroots Coalition http://www.americangrassrootscoalition.org/

“Porky Hunting for Online Gambling for Harry Reid & Friend Barney Frank!

Friends,

I personally spent part of last summer and fall to help defeat Harry Reid in Nevada with the Tea Party Express. Most thought that he would be defeated simply because the state of Nevada is number one in unemployment, number one in home foreclosures, and number one in bankruptcies in the country. Certainly, the people of Nevada would choose another candidate that would work to turn around the dismal situation in the state.

Even though Sharron Angle had been ahead of Harry Reid in all of the polls for weeks, Harry Reid won on election night. Many couldn’t figure out how this happened, but you don’t have to look to far to see the ties between Harry Reid and the gambling and casino industry.

Now, it is pay back time to the special interests that helped reelect Harry. During this lame duck Congress, efforts have been underway to extend the Bush tax cuts before they expire at the end of the year. Instead of a straight up and down vote, they are porking up the legislation and Harry Reid’s payback is at the top of the list with the legalization of online gambling! While this legislation may be good for the special interests that helped reelect Harry Reid, it is bad for America.

You want to know more about this online gambling legislation? Below is plenty of information to tell you how bad this is for America.

Please say no to any porky pig online gambling for Harry Reid and his pal Barney Frank! Yep, Barney is in on this too! Stop it in the Senate NOW before it can even get to Barney in the House.

Do you want to continue to see porky eating from the trough in Washington?

If not, please contact your Senators today and let them know how you feel about online gambling and the pork that Harry Reid and Barney Frank are trying to serve the American people in the lame duck Congress.

You can call the Capitol Hill Switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

You can also locate the contact information for your Senator or Representative in the Congressional Directory here.”

Because Joe Manchin was just elected to complete the seat of Robert Byrd who died before his term ended, I do not yet have contact information for him.

If I counted correctly, of the 23 Democrats up for reelection, eleven are FIRST TERM Democrats and another 6 are SECOND TERM Democrats. This is a ripe field for the Republicans with work, effort, money, prayer, and good conservative candidates to pick up an even larger number of new seats than this year. Keep records of their votes against we the people and whether or not they actually support the United States Constitution as written. WE MUST keep the Democrats “FEET TO THE FIRE!”

We MUST continue the process of TAKING BACK THE NATION!!! The nation is at stake!!!
