“WHAT IS THAT TO US?”

I’m sorry! Tonight’s post is a continuation of the thoughts based upon “They Just Don’t Get It.” I still plan to begin answering the question on immigration asked recently. I hope I will begin answering the question later this week or the beginning of next week. I apologize for the continuing change in plans!

How many unborn toddlers were murdered today because of the humanistic, paganish decisions of the United States Supreme Court?

Stop the
Murder of
Unborn
Toddlers

“Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.” James 4: 17 (NIV)

What questions should be asked of every Congressman and of every U.S. citizen who is demanding that the United States abandon Iraq? Demand that they truthfully, realistically answer these questions. What will happen in the next year after the United States leaves Iraq? What will happen in the next five years after the United States leaves Iraq? How will pulling out in Iraq make the United States safer in relation to the War on Terror? In short, what will be the consequences of withdrawing from Iraq? If they can not truthfully answer these questions, why are they demanding and supporting the abandonment of a newly established democratic country that we established in the first place?

It is not enough to demand a certain action. One must be willing to point out the probable results of such an action. Actions do not result in a box. Every action has consequences. What are the consequences of abandoning a newly established democracy?
“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and success of liberty.”

What is this? Is this another ranting of that lunatic George W. Bush? Does he really expect us to pay any price? Does he really expect us to bear any burden? Does he really expect us to meet any hardship? Does he really expect us to support any friend? Does he really expect us to oppose any foe “to assure the survival and success of liberty?”

What nonsense! Doesn’t that lunatic realize that we are losing men in Iraq to help the Iraqi people gain and keep freedom? What is more important: their liberty or our loss of life? What’s more important: their liberty or the money it is costing us to protect their liberty? We freed them; isn’t that enough? If they can’t survive against Al-Qaida, what is that to us?

“It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us, that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause which they gave the last full measure of devotion; that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain….”

Is George W. Bush ranting again? Why should we sacrifice one more soldier in Iraq? So what if we withdraw and Al-Qaida is still there, still bombing, still killing? That is not our problem. Iraq has had enough time—over three years in the middle of war—to get their act together. We freed them. If they can’t stand on their own to fight by now they don’t deserve liberty. Why should we continue to help? All we have to do is pull out and Al-Qaida will leave us alone.

We will be safe and secure within our own borders just as we were before. Then we can concentrate on the really important stuff. Stuff like insuring that mothers can continue to murder their own babies, stuff like removing GOD from the public arena, stuff like insuring that homosexuals can live their life of sin and get married, stuff like providing abortion pills to minors, stuff like increasing the amount of legalized gambling, stuff like allowing the Supreme Court to make the important legislative decisions for us. We have plenty of important goals without worrying about some newly established country being overrun by Al-Qaida. What is that to us?

The first quote, “Let every nation know,” is from the first Inaugural Address of John F. Kennedy. It seems that almost all of the Democratic Party in Congress and also his own younger brother now disagree with President Kennedy’s declaration. According to their proclamations and actions, we are NOT willing to pay any price. We are NOT willing to bear any burden. We are NOT willing to meet any hardship. We are NOT willing to support any friend. We are NOT willing to “oppose any foe to assure the survival and success of liberty.” We are NOT willing to do any of these things even when we are the ones who established the new democracy in the first place. After all, what is that to us?

The saying use to be “when the going gets tough; the tough get going.” Now it seems that the Democratic Party and some growing number of Republicans want to change that saying to “when the going gets tough, it is past time to quit and retreat.” Why should we shed our blood to help a struggling new democracy? The cost is too high! So what if Al-Qaida takes over the country? What is that to us?

The saying use to be “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” Now it seems that the Democratic Party and some growing number of Republicans want to change that saying to “If at first you don’t succeed, it is past time to quit and retreat.” Why should we shed our blood to help a struggling new democracy? The cost is too high! So what if Al-Qaida takes over the country? What is that to us?

I just recognized the phrase “What is that to us?” I’ve read it before. Do you recognize it too? Somehow it seems to be an absolutely fitting phrase to use in this circumstance.
Here is where it has been used before. “When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”

“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.” Matthew 27: 3-4 (NIV)

If we abandon the newly established democracy in Iraq which we helped to establish, are we saying to the government of Iraq and its people, some of whom have died because of our efforts to establish that new democracy, “What is that to us?” It is now your responsibility to survive. We have done enough and will do no more. If you can’t protect your own people from Al-Qaida, “WHAT IS THAT TO US?”
