Evil abounds

Why was my last post about the evil of gambling? For those who are not familiar with the Illinois political scene, the State government in Illinois is just finishing up an extremely cantankerous year of legislative battles. Both the executive branch and the legislative branch are controlled by the Democratic Party and yet comparing the State government to the government in Iraq would make the government in Iraq look like a model for governmental achievement.

The governor of Illinois is very good at proposing monumental programs that increase the cost of government by millions of dollars. The governor is sadly lacking when it comes to proposals to pay for his grandiose schemes. As seems to occur every few years, the State government has been asked once again to “save” the regional transportation system in the Chicago area. In the mean time, the governor wants to finance at least part of his proposals by greatly expanding gambling in Illinois. From one account, if the proposal to expand gambling becomes law, Illinois will become the third largest gambling State trailing only Nevada and New Jersey.

Here is the problem. The nation—the United States of America—has been abandoning its moral compass as established by GOD—the CREATOR of the universe—and has become more reliant upon people doing that which is “right in their own eyes.” Doing that which is “right in their own eyes” basically translates into doing that which serves their own selfish interests. That is exactly what happened to the people of Israel—GOD’S original chosen people—during the time of the Old Testament. Eventually, the nation was destroyed and the people scattered throughout the world. It took almost two thousand years for the Jewish people to return to their GOD-given land and establish a new secular nation.

What are the major evils that we as a nation have allowed to develop and flourish over the last forty-five years or so? I imagine that everyone would have a slightly different list and, of course, some immoral people would strenuously argue that none of those evils listed is evil. Of course, that is the problem. In attempting to abandon the concept of sin and the guiding force of GOD and HIS will, we have declared that we know best and that sin does not exist except as an archaic concept. Of course, this is not a new idea. It has been promoted by Satan from the beginning.

My list of the top five would probably include the following:

1) The murder of innocent unborn babies: More “legalized” murders have occurred since the obscene, immoral Supreme Court decision of Roe vs. Wade than during any other time period in the history of the world. The decision has redefined right and wrong and has defined the evil of murder as a constitutional right. To justify such an inhuman act, many have convinced themselves that unborn babies are not human just as many, in an earlier period in our history, convinced themselves that slaves were property rather than humans.
Until we as a nation repent from our murderous course of action and return to the sanity of protecting the most innocent of human life, we are guaranteeing our eventual destruction as a nation and condemning many to everlasting punishment. The murder of an innocent unborn baby is just as evil, if not more so, as one adult murdering another. Murder is evil whether done by a mother before birth or done by an adult who hates another adult.

2) Sexual promiscuity and immorality: Sexual immorality has been a major contributing factor in the greatly increased number of the murder of unborn babies. The latest statistic I heard was that approximately 80% of all murders of the unborn are performed on mothers who are not married. Sexual immorality has contributed to the high divorce rate, the breakup of the nuclear family, and an increased number of sexually transmitted diseases.

Want to limit the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases? Stop engaging in immoral, evil sexual activities. No one has the right to give another a disease. Everyone has the responsibility NOT to engage in an evil activity that will spread disease.

Sexual promiscuity and immorality is being promoted in our schools as the natural course of behavior for unmarried children and young adults. The lie promoted by the advocates and apologists for this evil sin is “consenting adults” which has never before in our history been the guiding moral force for sexual behavior. If followed to its logical conclusion, polygamy, sexual intercourse between adult family members, and a decrease in the age of consent, which after all is an age determined by legislative agreement, are bound to occur and are already being advocated by some of the immoral proponents of sexual promiscuity.

3) Homosexual behavior: Homosexual behavior is an aspect of sexual immorality but is also listed because it is one of the more prominent immoral sexual activities being promoted today as being natural. Such an immoral position naturally leads to demands that it be accepted as being moral and good. Homosexual behavior has never been natural nor will it ever be natural. Homosexual behavior has never been moral nor will it ever be moral. It is strongly condemned in the Bible—the WORD of GOD—as sin and evil and thus it will always be in spite of man’s immoral pronouncements.

Want to limit the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases? Stop engaging in immoral, evil sexual activities. No one has the right to give another a disease. Everyone has the responsibility NOT to engage in an evil activity that will spread disease.

4) Gambling: I include gambling in my list of immoral, evil behaviors because it exemplifies the evil of greed. It is also included because it is more of a State generated evil rather than a sin being promoted at the national level by Congress and the Supreme Court. (Congress and the Supreme Court did give a tremendous boost to legalized casino gambling when Indian tribes in some States were given a monopoly on casino gambling even if otherwise prohibited in that State if other types of gambling were allowed in that State in some form by State law.) It is also the only one of the five that has developed and been promoted through the legislative process rather than by judicial fiat by immoral Supreme Court decisions. Consequently, it is an evil that seems to have at least a limited backing by a majority of the people. However, moral approval or disapproval by man does not determine evil or good. GOD does.

5) The continuing attempt to remove GOD from the public area: Removing GOD from the public arena is an attempt to remove the source of good from life. If GOD can be removed then no barrier exists to prevent the continued promotion and generation of evil.
Evil is then in the eye of the beholder and the most evil of actions can be pronounced to be “good.” We have already witnessed this process in the four other evils discussed. How in the world could any one actually buy into the concept that the murder of innocent unborn babies is a right and good without first removing moral judgment? No GOD equals no moral values and that is the aim of all those who want to cover our eyes and our ears and our hearts.

“Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: ‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’

Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ ‘This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ‘All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’” Matthew 22: 34-40 (NIV)

“He (the LORD JESUS the CHRIST—my addition) went on ‘What comes out of a man is what makes him ‘unclean.’ For from within, out of men’s hearts come evil thoughts, SEXUAL IMMORALITY, theft, MURDER, adultery, GREED, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these EVILS come from within and make a man ‘unclean.’’” Mark 7: 20-23 (NIV) [My capitalization of key words.]

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” Galatians 6: 7-8 (NIV)

The other problems in our society pale in comparison to these five evils and others that we have allowed to flourish. Although government never has been and never will be the savior for mankind or for our nation, every government official, to have any real chance of improving our nation, MUST deal with the evils we have allowed to fester and grow within our nation.

All of the weapons at our disposal will not protect us from ourselves. GOD’S protection, if we are obedient to HIS will, will protect us better than all the weapons at our disposal.

MORAL DECAY will ultimately translate into national destruction unless that decay is stopped and we return to GOD directed morality. Not man’s morality. GOD’S morality!!!
