My recent posts have involved four news stories—two dealing with the NIU murders, one on John McCain, and one about a death at the U.N. What did these three distinct articles have in common? All reported “information” based upon the ubiquitous anonymous source.

The posts dealing with anonymous sources are complete. At this time, a few thoughts about the NIU murders and the “mental health” aspects of the situation as discussed in the stories of February 17 and 18, 2008. The original article on February 17 seemed to imply that the gunman had mental health problems. I would argue that, more than mental health problems, he had SIN problems.

The article stated “The 27-year-old Kazmierczak also had a history of mental illness and had become erratic in the past two weeks after he stopped taking his medication, said university Police Chief Donald Grady.” From the two articles, it seems that the “history of mental illness” was one stint in a “mental health” facility after graduating from high school.

This is what the article said about that situation: “A former employee at a Chicago psychiatric treatment center said Kazmierczak had been placed there after high school by his parents. He used to cut himself and had resisted taking his medications, she said.

Kazmierczak spent more than a year at the Thresholds-Mary Hill House in the late 1990’s, former house manager Louise Gbadamashi told The Associated Press. His parents placed him there because he had become ‘unruly’ at home, she said.

Gbadamashi couldn’t remember any instances of him being violent, she said.

‘He never wanted to identify with being mentally ill,’ she said. ‘That was part of the problem.’” (Peoria Journal Star, February 17, 2008, page A12)

The above information about his “mental health” problems come from three sources—university Police Chief Donald Grady, an unidentified former employee (WOW! That could be a janitor for all we know. I was wrong. Anonymous sources do play into this post too.), and the former house manager of the facility.

Some questions in relation to this “mental health” problem might include the following. How reliable are the identified sources? Why would the NIU police chief know his correct mental history and whether or not he “had become erratic in the past two weeks.”? How reliable is the testimony of an unidentified former employee? How knowledgeable is the medical information from a former house manager?

Come to think of it. What happened to doctor/patient confidentiality? Does that end at the death of the patient? Then again, none of the three sources are identified as actually being doctors.

Consider these two sentences from the former house manager. “His parents placed him there because he had become ‘unruly’ at home, she said.” “‘He never wanted to identify with being mentally ill,’ she said. ‘That was part of the problem.’”

What!!! When did becoming unruly at home become identified as a mental illness! Since he was placed there by his parents, it seems that this may have occurred while he was still a minor. I think there are many minors who, having been placed in a “mental health” facility because they were unruly at home, would not “identify with being mentally ill” under the given circumstances. I think many of these same people would also be resistant to taking medicine to “control” this supposed mental illness. Wouldn’t you under similar circumstances.

The Soviet Union used to declare that citizens of that nation who opposed the system were insane. Opposition to the system was rewarded with a stint in a “mental health” institution. Does being unruly at home constitute the new definition of mentally insane requiring being locked up in a “mental health” facility with a daily routine of drug therapy? Is that frightening?

The February 18 article had these comments from the girlfriend: “She confirmed that he had stopped taking an antidepressant about three weeks ago because ‘it made him feel like a zombie,’ but she denied that his recent behavior was unusual.

‘He wasn’t erratic. He wasn’t delusional. He was Steve; he was normal,’ said Baty, who had turned down Associated Press requests by phone and in person for an interview. (Peoria Journal Star, February 18, 2008, page A9)

If the only reason he was locked up in a “mental health” facility was because he had been unruly at home, I’m surprised it took him so long to stop taking his “medication.” The real problem in all of this is not a “mental health” issue. The real issue is SIN. When a society continually attempts to remove GOD from the public arena, when a society comes to believe that all problems can be identified as being caused by a “sickness” rather than SIN, the results are inevitable. Humanistic solutions to SIN will always lead to more and greater SIN. We as a people, we as a nation CAN NOT save ourselves from SIN!!!

Government CAN NOT save us! Mental health facilities CAN NOT save us! Humanists CAN NOT save us! Libertines CAN NOT save us! Hillary Clinton, Barrack Obama, John McCain CAN NOT save us! False gods and false religions CAN NOT save us!

Only the one TRUE GOD, HIS SON JESUS the CHRIST, and the HOLY SPIRIT can save us from ourselves. WE need to repent and turn to GOD. If not, welcome to our continued degradation and fall into oblivion!

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” Galatians 6: 7-8 (NIV)

“The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, FITS of RAGE (My capitalization—my addition), selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5: 19-21 (NIV)

“He (the LORD JESUS the CHRIST—my addition) went on ‘What comes out of a man is what makes him ‘unclean.’ For from within, out of men’s hearts come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, MURDER (My capitalization—my addition), adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from within and make a man ‘unclean.’’” Mark 7: 20-23 (NIV)

“Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and SINFUL (My capitalization—my addition) generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.’” Mark 8: 34-38 (NIV)

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” Galatians 6: 7-8 (NIV)

My recent posts have involved four news stories—two dealing with the NIU murders, one on John McCain, and one about a death at the U.N. What did these three distinct articles have in common? All reported “information” based upon the ubiquitous anonymous source.

Tonight, a brief look specifically at the NIU (Northern Illinois University) murder story in relation to the anonymous information given in the story. The original two news articles were published in the Peoria Journal Star on February 17, and February 18, 2008.

I have said before that reporters know that readers have developed a set of habits when reading a news story. Some stop reading with the headline. Others will read the material on the first page of a story that is front page news and not read the remainder of the story located on a later page. The NIU story was, of course, front page news. The remainder of the story was on page A12. Still others may turn to the inside page but not read the complete story.

Why is this important in relation to the NIU story? The last paragraph on the front page concluded the front page portion of the story with the following: “Many saw him as happy and stable, but he had developed a recent interest in guns and was involved in a troubled—possibly abusive—on-again, off-again relationship.” (Peoria Journal Star, February 17, 2008, page A1)

Consequently, the reader, if he stopped reading with the front page portion of the story, is left with these thoughts as provided by the story: 1) the murderer “had developed a recent interest in guns.” It seems that the reporters may be implying that this recent interest in guns may be one of the reasons that the murders occurred. No interest in guns = no murders. More importantly though is the concluding thought on the front page: 2) (The murderer) “was involved in a troubled—possibly abusive—on-again, off-again relationship.”

Where did the reporters seem to get the information for this alleged troubling, on and off relationship that could possibly be abusive? It seems from an anonymous source! Thus, an early paragraph on page A12 declares “One person who knew the couple, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, said the couple’s relationship was on-again, off-again and ‘really rocky.’ Kazmierczak was controlling, she said.

‘He was abusive, had a temper,’ she said. ‘He didn’t actually hit her, he would push her around.’”

We have the same problems as always with an anonymous source. We have only the reporters’ word that the anonymous source knew what she was talking about and was, in fact, correct in her assessment of the situation. We don’t know if the anonymous source did actually know the situation. We don’t know how knowledgeable she was because we don’t know the closeness of the relationship. We know that the reporters could have simply made up this information. We have no way of questioning the anonymous source about the information.

Yet, it seems that the reporters used this anonymous source for their concluding comment on page A1 that the gunman “was involved in a troubled—possibly abusive—on-again, off-again relationship.” This is an example of terrible reporting and terrible editing by the local paper which printed the story. The last thing that some readers will read about the story seems to be based upon an anonymous source where the readers who stopped reading on the front page don’t even know that the information is based upon an anonymous source. It’s a double portion of the power of the anonymous source possibly misleading the public.

However, that is not all in relation to this particular news event. The next day, another story is printed and information in that story seems to contradict the information given by the anonymous source.

The following is a quote attributed to the murderer’s girlfriend: “‘The person I knew was not the one who went into Cole Hall and did that,’ Baty told CNN. ‘He was anything but a monster. He was probably the … nicest, (most) caring person ever.’” (Peoria Journal Star, February 18, 2008, page A1) Claiming that the murderer was “probably the …nicest, (most) caring person ever” seems to refute that she was involved in a “really rocky” relationship with the murderer, that he was “abusive,” or that the murderer “was involved in a troubled—possibly abusive—on-again, off-again relationship.”

On page A9 of the February 18, 2008 story in the Peoria Journal Star the reader is provided with the following additional information that again seems to refute the anonymous information given the previous day. “An NIU professor who befriended Kazmierczak and Baty during their years on campus told The Associated Press earlier Sunday that Baty was upset by media reports of their relationship as rocky and abusive.

Jim Thomas, an emeritus professor of sociology and criminology at NIU, said Baty feels she and Kazmierczak were a typical young couple.

‘They were two people in love with all the pains, joys, squabbles, ups/downs of any other relationship,’ Thomas said.”

In this instance, rebuttal information refuting the anonymous source is given. However, it is given in the next day’s story. How many people having read the first day’s anonymous source information have already formed an unchanging opinion of the situation? Does everyone who read the previous day’s article also read the later rebuttal? Does everyone who read the previous day’s article eventually accept that the rebuttal information is indeed true or do they have doubts because of the already processed original information? Has the anonymous information that was not collaborated already done damage that is irreversible?

Why does the mass media persist in using anonymous information?

My recent posts have involved four news stories—two dealing with the NIU murders, one on John McCain, and one about a death at the U.N. What did these three distinct articles have in common? All reported “information” based upon the ubiquitous anonymous source.

Tonight, a brief look specifically at the John McCain story in relation to the anonymous information given in the story. The original news article was published in the Peoria Journal Star on February 21, 2008, page A2.

The relevant information for this post was contained in the following paragraph: “The Washington Post quoted longtime aide John Weaver, who split with McCain last year, as saying he met with Vicki Iseman and urged her to stay away from McCain. The New York Times suggested an inappropriate relationship between the Arizona senator and Iseman, a Washington lobbyist. The New York Times quoted anonymous aides saying they had confronted McCain and Iseman, urging them to stay away from each other, before his failed presidential campaign in 2000.”

On my February 9, 2008 post I wrote the following: I think the libertine mass media has now decided that John McCain will win the Republican Party Presidential nomination and it is now time to start the attack on him to prevent continued Republican control of the White House.

That night I also wrote: He (John McCain—my addition) is the “Republican” darling of the libertine mass media. That is, until he actually runs against a libertine Democrat for the Presidency.

First then, I would point out the obvious. The article of February 21, 2008 seems to be a continuation of the just beginning and probably continual assaults upon John McCain until the conclusion of the Presidential election. The first such assault that I’ve read was the article discussed on my February 9, 2008 post.

In the news story of February 21, 2008 the two newspapers dragged up something that supposedly occurred before the 2000 Presidential primary campaign—at least seven plus years ago. The New York Times used the all too common anonymous source to try to support its version of the story.

According to the news article from The Associate Press (I have not read the original stories printed in the Washington Post and the New York Times), The Washington Post does identify its source as John Weaver a former aide to the Senator. The Post seems to have even asserted that there was a split between the two (although that may have been inserted by the writer(s) of The Associated Press). However, the story I read did not identify the reason for the split and more importantly did not explain WHY Iseman was “urged” to stay away from McCain.

Reporters supposedly have been taught to discover the “who, what, and why” of a story. The WHY in this case seems overwhelmingly important since it could be a very innocent reason why she was “urged” to stay away. IF, indeed, she was. It may have been simply that because of her profession, the leaders in the campaign did not want even a hint of McCain being friendly with someone in a profession (lobbyist) that had negative connotations.

According to the article from the Associated Press, “The New York Times suggested an inappropriate relationship between the Arizona senator and Iseman, a Washington lobbyist.” The article did not identify the alleged “inappropriate relationship.” Perhaps, it was meant to be left to the imagination of the reader. Certainly, the article did not provide another supposed emphasis of standard reporting—“the facts, nothing but the facts.” Innuendo seems to be some reporters chief weapon when dealing with “news” related to Republicans.

“The New York Times quoted anonymous aides saying they had confronted McCain and Iseman, urging them to stay away from each other, before his failed presidential campaign in 2000.” Here, of course, is where the “anonymous” source(s) are inserted into the “news” article.

This results in the same problems of any anonymous source for any alleged story being covered. Were these anonymous sources actually involved in the “confrontation”? Notice too the use of the words “confronted” and “urged.” Were “confronted” and “urged” the words used by the anonymous sources or were the words selected by the reporter to report the incident? “Confronted” and “urged” have a different slant to the incident than, for example, “met with” and “asked.”

How do we know that the reporter didn’t make up the account? Why were individuals who supposedly provided the information not identified? How can anyone else confirm the truthfulness of the story if the sources of the story are not identified? How can the reader know for certain if there was more than one person. Perhaps the reporter had only one source but expanded it to “aides” attempting to give credence to the information. Who knows?

How many times is anonymously reported information wrong or misleading? How often do later articles correct wrong information that allegedly came from an anonymous source? Does everyone who read the first article also read the later correction? Does everyone who read the original article eventually accept that the corrected information is indeed true or do they have doubts because of the already processed original information?

Why use anonymous sources? Why not take the time to verify the truth before reporting what may or may not be true? Why not identify the anonymous sources? Why would someone give such information to a reporter? Does he or she or they have an ulterior motive? Do they have an ax to grind? Are they seeking revenge for some unknown reason? Are they actually aides to the Senator? Knowing the source helps to give credence to the information or helps to call the information into question if the known source is also known not to be reliable.

I have said that John McCain is not my ideal candidate for the Republican Party. However, this article appears to be a “hatch job” trying at all costs to initiate doubts about John McCain and his worthiness to be President. The use of anonymous sources reinforces such a conclusion. It could be nothing more than the deranged imagination of a reporter who supports the ultimate libertine Democratic candidate.

Why should, why would anyone give credence to such a story based upon anonymous sources which may or may not exist? Anonymous sources who may or may not know the facts. Anonymous sources who may or may not be telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

The use of anonymous sources is BAD reporting. Such “news” should be discarded by people who want the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

My recent posts have involved four news stories—two dealing with the NIU murders, one on John McCain, and one about a death at the U.N. What did these three distinct articles have in common? All reported “information” based upon the ubiquitous anonymous source.

Tonight, a brief look specifically at the U.N. story in relation to the anonymous information given in the story. The original news article was published on February 18, 2008 page A2 in the Peoria Journal Star.

The crux of the story is that a U.N. employee died after an incident on the 19th floor of a U.N. building. Basically, there are only three ways that someone located on the 19th floor of a building could end up outside of the building on the ground dead.

She could have accidentally fallen from the 19th floor. No details of the building were given to give the reader any idea of whether or not that was likely. She could have jumped from the building indicating a suicide. She could have been pushed from the building which would, of course, indicate foul play of some sort.

The official, approved statement said “‘A U.N. agency staff member died after falling from the 19th floor of the U.N. Secretariat Building,’ U.N. deputy spokeswoman Marie Okabe said.” This could possibly indicate all three possibilities but I think to most people it would indicate an accidental fall or possibly jumping.

The anonymous comment is definite about which of the three occurred. “Police and U.N. security officers at the scene, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media, said the 45-year-old woman had jumped from a window after showing up to work early in the morning.” The woman jumped according to the anonymous information. The woman committed suicide.

That may well have been what happened. The readers of the story were not there and probably almost all of them have no idea whether or not an accidental fall was likely. However, by declaring the death to be due to jumping, that is going to remain in the mind of many readers regardless of the official findings.

Why couldn’t the reporter wait until the official pronouncement was that she jumped, or accidentally fell, or was pushed? Why the rush to judgment? Why the necessity to use an anonymous source. Shouldn’t the story be based upon a definitive determination? What if she had been pushed? Couldn’t a defense attorney use this anonymous pronouncement to suggest reasonable doubt?

Were any of the anonymous sources an eye witness? Was there an eye witness? How do we know that the reporter didn’t make up the account? Why were individuals who did not have authority to discuss the case doing so?

How many times is anonymously reported information wrong or misleading? How often do later articles correct wrong information that allegedly came from an anonymous source? Does everyone who read the first article also read the later correction? Does everyone who read the original article eventually accept that the corrected information is indeed true or do they have doubts because of the already processed original information?

Why use anonymous sources? Why not take the time to verify the truth before reporting what may or may not be true? Knowing the source helps to give credence to the information or helps to call the information into question if the known source is also known not to be reliable.

Stop using anonymous information. It should not be given any value since it has not been verified by actual, recognizable sources. It is bad reporting and bad for a democracy that should be based upon the public’s ability to confront the individuals providing the information. By definition, the public can not confront an anonymous source.

Over the past four days, I posted four news stories—two dealing with the NIU murders, one on John McCain, and one about a death at the U.N. What did these three distinct articles have in common? All reported “information” based upon the ubiquitous anonymous source.

The U.N. death story had this quote: “Police and U.N. security officers at the scene, who spoke on condition of ANONYMITY (My capitalization.) because they were not authorized to talk to the media, said the 45-year-old woman had jumped from a window after showing up to work early in the morning.” (Peoria Journal Star, February 18, 2008, page A2)

The McCain story had this quote: “The New York Times suggested an inappropriate relationship between the Arizona senator and Iseman, a Washington lobbyist. The New York Times quoted ANONYMOUS (My capitalization.) aides saying they had confronted McCain and Iseman, urging them to stay away from each other, before his failed presidential campaign in 2000.” (Peoria Journal Star, February 21, 2008, page A2)

The NIU murder story had this quote: “One person who knew the couple, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of ANONYMITY (My capitalization), said the couple’s relationship was on-again, off-again and ‘really rocky.’ Kazmierczak was controlling, she said.

‘He was abusive, had a temper,’ she said. ‘He didn’t actually hit her, he would push her around.’” (Peoria Journal Star, February 17, 2008, page A12)

How valid and reliable is “information” credited to an anonymous source? Of course, it could be absolutely correct. Just as obviously, it could be absolutely false. When a person is being tried in a court of law, he or she has the Constitutional right to confront his accuser. Anonymity is not legally allowed. In a news story, no such protection is provided. Anyone could be quoted to say anything and no one can confront the information provided because the information and the informer are anonymous.

The reader has only the word of the reporter that the source is creditable. Of course, the reporter could be lying or just mistaken. The reporter could, in fact, just make up the information and credit that information to an anonymous source. No one would know the difference.

How much credence should be given to anonymous information? In my opinion: ZERO!
If the source is not willing to be identified, the information is of no provable value in and of itself.

Unfortunately, every time an anonymous source is quoted, there are bound to be some people who accept it as being true. Such so called anonymous information can do great damage and be completely false. As a society we have an obligation to demand to know the source of information provided. The mass media should immediately change the general practice in this area. If it has not been verified by identifiable sources, it should not be published.

Do the research necessary to learn the truth! Identify the source of the information! Truth is too important to be based upon the misused and abused anonymous source! The anonymous source makes the reporter no better than a malicious gossip!!!

Tonight is the fourth post of recent articles printed in the Peoria Journal Star dealing ultimately with the same subject matter. This one was published on February 18, 2008, page A2. I am quoting the article in its entirety since it is short.

The article without comment:

“U.N. worker falls from 19th floor of Secretariat Building

United Nations—A woman who worked for the United Nations died Sunday after falling from the 19th floor of the U.N.’s Secretariat Building in New York City, authorities said.

Police and U.N. security officers at the scene, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media, said the 45-year-old woman had jumped from a window after showing up to work early in the morning.

‘A U.N. agency staff member died after falling from the 19th floor of the U.N. Secretariat Building,’ U.N. deputy spokeswoman Marie Okabe said. ‘At this time there is no suspicion of foul play.’

Okabe said U.N. officials would not confirm her identity even after her next of kin were notified.

The official cause of death was to be determined by the medical examiner.

U.N. staff rushed to the scene and escorted investigators to the rear area of the building, where yellow tape was put up around the woman’s body. Some U.N. staff were blocked from leaving the building just after the discovery.”

I was ready tonight to do a third post on the NIU murders and wrap this series up when the following article was printed in the Peoria Journal Star on February 21, 2008, page A2. It coincides nicely with the two articles about the NIU murders and my major point so I’m going to include it. Tonight, I am quoting the article in its entirety since it is short. It was tucked away at the bottom of page A2. I wouldn’t be surprised if some did not even notice it.

The article without comment:

“McCain calls reports about ties to lobbyist a ‘smear campaign’

Toledo, Ohio (AP)—Republican presidential hopeful John McCain issued a statement Wednesday night saying he ‘will not allow a smear campaign’ to distract from his campaign as published reports questioned his relationship with a lobbyist.

The Washington Post quoted longtime aide John Weaver, who split with McCain last year, as saying he met with Vicki Iseman and urged her to stay away from McCain. The New York Times suggested an inappropriate relationship between the Arizona senator and Iseman, a Washington lobbyist. The New York Times quoted anonymous aides saying they had confronted McCain and Iseman, urging them to stay away from each other, before his failed presidential campaign in 2000.

The published reports said McCain and Iseman each denied having a romantic relationship, and the paper offered no evidence that they had.

The story alleges that McCain wrote letters and pushed legislation that would have benefited Iseman’s clients.”

See last night’s post for the February 17, 2008 story. Tonight, I am posting a portion of a story printed Monday, February 18, 2008 in the Peoria Journal Star. If all goes according to plan, I will begin commenting on the two stories tomorrow. I think it is important to have posted both stories before any comments.

Tonight’s posting of a portion of the story published on February 18, 2008:

“Rampage shocked gunman’s girlfriend (sub-headline has been omitted—my addition) by The Associated Press

Wonder Lake—The girlfriend of the man who killed five people and himself at Northern Illinois University said Sunday that he called her early on Valentine’s Day, the day of the shooting, to say goodbye.

Steven Kazmierczak ‘called me at midnight and told me not to forget about him,’ Jessica Baty, 28, told CNN from her home. She said she had no indication he was planning anything.”

“‘The person I knew was not the one who went into Cole Hall and did that,’ Baty told CNN. ‘He was anything but a monster. He was probably the … nicest, (most) caring person ever.’” (Peoria Journal Star, February 18, 2008, page A1)

“Another package contained a gun holster and ammunition. She confirmed that he had stopped taking an antidepressant about three weeks ago because ‘it made him feel like a zombie,’ but she denied that his recent behavior was unusual.

‘He wasn’t erratic. He wasn’t delusional. He was Steve; he was normal,’ said Baty, who had turned down Associated Press requests by phone and in person for an interview.

Authorities have speculated that the couple might have split up just before the shooting. Baty did not discuss the status of her relationship with Kazmierczak during Sunday’s televised interview, telling CNN only, ‘I still love him.’

An NIU professor who befriended Kazmierczak and Baty during their years on campus told The Associated Press earlier Sunday that Baty was upset by media reports of their relationship as rocky and abusive.

Jim Thomas, an emeritus professor of sociology and criminology at NIU, said Baty feels she and Kazmierczak were a typical young couple.

‘They were two people in love with all the pains, joys, squabbles, ups/downs of any other relationship,’ Thomas said.”

“Investigators still haven’t determined what set off Kazmierczak. The 27-year-old grew up northwest of Chicago in Elk Grove Village and played saxophone in the school band.

Kazmierczak’s family has moved away, but the shooting still echoed in Elk Grove Village. ‘I couldn’t believe coming from a place like Elk Grove he could do that,’ said Judy Glomski, who has lived in Elk Grove for 39 years. ‘It’s just a friendly town. I guess there are sick people everywhere.’” (Peoria Journal Star, February 18, 2008, page A9)

Late last week our nation had another in a series of mass murders on a university campus. I could discuss the correlation between the murders and our society’s propensity to glorify violence and mayhem. I pointed out on my last post that two major businesses were pushing gangster-violence movies for the weekly sale to correspond with Presidents’ Day. However, that is not the purpose of these posts.

Tonight, I am posting a portion of a story printed Sunday, February 17, 2008 in the Peoria Journal Star. Tomorrow, I plan to post a portion of the continuing story that was published on February 18, 2008. If all goes according to plan, I will begin commenting on the two stories the following post. I think it is important to have posted both stories before any comments.

Tonight’s posting of a portion of the story published on February 17, 2008:

“Investigators dig to uncover NIU gunman’s motive (sub-headline has been omitted—my addition) by Ashley M. Heher and Caryn Rousseau of The Associated Press

DeKalb—Steven Kazmierczak had the look of a boyish graduate student—except for the disturbing tattoos that covered his arms.

Professors and students knew him as a bright, helpful scholar, but his past included a stint in a mental health center.

Many saw him as happy and stable, but he had developed a recent interest in guns and was involved in a troubled—possibly abusive—on-again, off-again relationship.” (Peoria Journal Star, February 17, 2008, page A1—all of the story printed on the front page was quoted.)

“While searching for Kazmierczak’s motive, authorities questioned family and friends and tried to determine whether he had recently broken up with his longtime girlfriend.

One person who knew the couple, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, said the couple’s relationship was on-again, off-again and ‘really rocky.’ Kazmierczak was controlling, she said.

‘He was abusive, had a temper,’ she said. ‘He didn’t actually hit her, he would push her around.’

The 27-year-old Kazmierczak also had a history of mental illness and had become erratic in the past two weeks after he stopped taking his medication, said university Police Chief Donald Grady.

A former employee at a Chicago psychiatric treatment center said Kazmierczak had been placed there after high school by his parents.

Nine paragraphs after the above paragraph and the third to the last paragraph of the article contained this information:

“Jim Thomas, an emeritus professor of sociology and criminology at NIU who taught Kazmierczak, insisted there was no indication of trouble between Kazmierczak and his girlfriend.” (Peoria Journal Star, February 17, 2008, page A12)

(to be continued with the story published on February 18, 2008)

I will not be continuing my Creationism posts today. I do plan to return to them soon.

Then, I plan to answer the response about Iraq. I am sorry for the change in plans. Plans, in reality, often are altered for one reason or another. “The best laid plans … often go astray.” Thank you for your understanding and patience.

I was not going to do the following for my post for today. Monday the 18th of February is Presidents’ Day for this year. I was looking at the Sunday advertisements and the following DVDs are on sell at Best Buy for $4.99.

“‘Casino’
‘The Godfather’
‘The Godfather, part II’
‘A History of Violence’
‘Gangs of New York’
‘Carlito’s Way’
‘Inside Man’
‘Training Day’
‘Lucky # Slevin’
‘Blow’
‘The Untouchables’
‘Running Scared’”

The headline for this section of on sale DVDs is “Gangsters galore.”

Not to be out done and to give equal time, Circuit City has the above 12 movies for sale for $6.99 plus such selected hits (in no particular order) as:

“‘The Godfather, part III’
‘Four Brothers’
‘Collateral’
‘Mobsters’
‘Domino’
‘Menace II Society’
‘The Warriors’
‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’
‘Get Shorty’
‘King of New York’
‘Colors’
‘Scarface’
‘Good Fellas’
‘Carlito’s Way: Rise to Power’
‘Reservoir Dogs’”

I have not actually seen any of these movies. However, my guess is that they all have one thing in common—violence. In fact, many of them probably have what would be considered extreme instances of violence.

My question is: Is this what Presidents’ Day means to the advertising geniuses for these two major businesses? Is this what Presidents’ Day means to our society in general? Is this another example of our continuing decaying moral decline? Are these DVDs the way we want our children to associate Presidents’ Day with the general society?

The following short article was printed in the “Faith & Values” section of the Peoria Journal Star page C6 on February 16, 2008. The results of this survey are something that I don’t think most readers did see or are going to see in the national section of the newspaper. It would probably be too depressing for all those evolutionists who support the lie of evolution. After all, evolution has basically been the only theory taught in the public schools for years and years and still only about one quarter of the respondents totally accept the fallacy of the evolution theory.

A word of caution though is in order. As I’ve said many times before, I don’t give much credence to surveys unless I know the methodology used, the questions asked, in this case how they defined evolution, who were surveyed, how they were selected, and many other variables which are seldom if ever given in the actual newspaper article. We for some reason are just to accept that the process was done correctly. That being said, the results as given are interesting and I’m presenting them here for your information.

“According to the most recent survey on evolution—released in August 2006—by the Pew Research Center and the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, 42 percent of respondents directly rejected evolution, choosing the option that humans and other living things have existed in their present form since the creation.

About half (51 percent) believe that evolution has occurred, but many of these (21 percent) think it was guided by a supreme being or higher power, a notion that roughly describes the views of the ‘intelligent design’ movement. (Not the intelligent design authors I have read but then I have only read a couple—my addition.) Just 26 percent believe in evolution through natural selection.” (Yes, I know. If you add 21% and 26% the result is 47%. So, what happened to the other 4% of the 51%? I don’t know—my addition.)

Would the evolutionists declare that this is just another example of our failing school system? Will they say we need to teach the concepts better? We need to teach the concepts longer? We need to teach the concepts more thoroughly? We need to call the people who don’t believe in evolution hayseed hicks who are totally ignorant? Isn’t that evolutionists first reaction—name calling?

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1: 1 (NIV)

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1: 27 (NIV)

(JESUS speaking—my addition) “‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.’” Matthew 25: 31-34 (NIV)

(JESUS speaking—my addition) “Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, ‘Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?’

‘What did Moses command you?’ he replied.

They said, ‘Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.’

‘It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,’ Jesus replied. ‘But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.’” Mark 10: 2-9 (NIV)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” John 1: 1-5 (NIV)

“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.” Romans 1: 18-25 (NIV)

“By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” Hebrews 11: 3 (NIV)

I received the following as an e-mail some time ago and post it tonight as a public service. I do not know the original source and have not checked out the authenticity of the information although two website sources are given.

“If you buy Gift Cards from a display rack that has various store cards you may become a victim of theft. Crooks are now jotting down the card numbers in the store and then wait a few days and call to see how much of a balance THEY have on the card. Once they find the card is ‘activated,’ they go online and start shopping. You may want to purchase your card from a customer service person, where they do not have the Gift Cards viewable to the public.

(I tried to purchase a gift card from a customer service person at a store after receiving this and she said that all the gift cards available were on the display racks. Some companies sell their gift cards on-line and will then mail them to the person you want it sent to. I did this the last time I bought gift cards. It worked well although one recipient wasn’t sure why she was receiving a gift card in the mail—my addition.)

Please share this with all your family and friends.

These websites confirm it’s true!

The following list dealing with the rating by various organizations of Farmers Insurance Group was taken from the website www.farmersinsurancegroupsucks.com. I have NOT checked out whether or not the list is complete and/or accurate. The main issue is: BUYER/CUSTOMER BEWARE!!!

• “According to State Insurance Commissioner reports Farmers Insurance has the MOST COMPLAINTS in California, Washington, Texas, Oregon, Kansas, Arizona, Colorado and more!

• Consumer Reports rates Farmers Insurance homeowner insurance ‘Worse’ for both ‘Problems with Claim’ and ‘Delayed Payments.’

• Better Business Bureau assigned Farmers Insurance an ‘F’, its worst rating.

• J.D Power and Associates gives Farmers Insurance its Worst Rating for Collision Repair ‘Overall Experience’, ‘Claim Settlement’, ‘Claim Representative’ and ‘Claim Process & Procedures.’

• FBIC (I don’t know what FBIC stands for—my addition.) rates Farmers Insurance: One Of The 5 Worst U.S. Bad Faith Insurer Records.

• In Consumer Report’s ratings of overall satisfaction with auto insurance companies, Farmers Insurance was one of the Worst!

• In a Consumer Reports survey Farmers Insurance was one of the ‘Poorest Performers’ in paying off claims in 30 days or less.

• J.D Power and Associates gives Farmers Insurance its Worst Rating for Auto Insurance ‘Claims Handling’ and ‘Pricing.’

• J.D Power and Associates gives Farmers Insurance its Worst Rating for Homeowners Insurance ‘Pricing.’

• Body Shops rate Farmers Insurance worst.

• Collision repair shops rated Farmers Insurance below-average with a grade of D plus or worse.”

Here is a thought. Before signing any insurance contract or renewing any contract, require the representative to sign a written statement that the company you are being insured by is in no way associated with Farmers Insurance Group.

I can not stress this enough: BUYER/CUSTOMER BEWARE!!!
I can not stress this enough: PAPER TRAIL! PAPER TRAIL! PAPER TRAIL!!!
I can not stress this enough: BUYER/CUSTOMER BEWARE!!!
